Information is for everyone! Not just for customers of a specific company. Would you be happy if you go to the fueling station and you're told you can't fill your tank because you don't have a vehicle of the right brand???
It is indefensible that the governing body of the European Union should support the monopoly position of Microsoft in the area of video codecs. These must be made available in a format which is readily viewable on free and open source operating systems.
EU eAdministration MUST be based on open standards (and, of course, open standards MUST be royalty free, that EC wants to change that fact under Microsoft pressure).
Open standars should be supported by EU wether its text documents or video. Solutions exist its just a matter of the EU to demonstrate it's willingness
Montrez l'exemple !!!
Europe is not America.
Linux can be a real chance to developp our own industry about OS and computers technology.
The Eu has to be coherent : accepting using .odt format (open office) and not allow people using other thing than Microsoft format is simply stupid.
If you want to make an Europe strong and efficient, you have to begin to use brains in other way than following Microsoft and his way of thinking.
This compagny have been condamned by the Eu Law : but in the facts ...
I'm an European using Linux to be "in law" and who don't want to be declared "illegal" beacause i have to crack the Microsoft-EU objet to be able to read it.
It should be considered a human right to have access to this material without being rich enough to buy the expensive proprietary operating systems of Microsoft and Apple.
The money of European taxpayers should be used to build up Europe's own IT potential available for anyone and not leek it to the proprietary systems only.
By thime you say Windows should get rid of media player, you actualy want it to be? Stop being so american! Lets move towards opensource...
BTW: Use the NEXT-GEN os Mandriva 2007!!!
Has not Microsoft been convicted of violating EU law? Have they not yet paid their hundreds of millions of dollars in fines?
Why then would you require people to use the software of these lawbreaking monopolists?
