Blaiming legal issues for not supporting oss after choosing a proprietary format is like blaming technical issues for not stopping in time after disabling the breaks on your car.
Just change format!
Ce n'est pas du tout normal ce genre de chose ! Il faut que cela change, je ne vois pourquoi on privilégierait les logiciels propriétaires, en prenant les utilisateurs de Linux pour des marginaux !
I think this is completely stupid since there are other standard (dirac, mpeg4, h264, theora, snow, vc-1) available everywhere.
AND wmv isn't illegal on other platforms even if I won't use it...
The eu information is public, and should be accessible by the eu citizens regardless of their computer preferences. That's democracy 101, and every eu instution should be obliged to provide open contents.
Restricting the Streaming Service of the Council of the European Union to Windows and Mac users is like restricting the publishing of European Union Directives to Latin and Ancient Greek.
Please ensure that every european, regardlesstheir viewing platform, has access to theStreaming Service.
the information should be available to anyone, specially if the information belongs to the people, the platform must not exclude you if there aren't any excuses for doing that
Obviously, lobbies do have more influence over the European Union than principles like liberty and egalitarianism do.
"Democracy" in Europe seems to become more and more a farce.
They should encrypt their proprietary formats in the catacombs, along with any of the unrepentant lawyers who wrongly advised them that it would be illegal to support free codecs.
Why do tax-payers have to pay for something when a better product is available for free? Makes me wonder what kind of people we didn't vote in to spend our money? And this is called democracy... ha
This is a public service which should not discriminate citizens not using PROPRIETARY software. This does not look good when the commission is trying to prevent Microsoft from being monopolistic...
Software patents are currently not legal in europe, which eliminates a lot of the problem. Even without that, the problem doesn't exist. Unless you're listening to the wrong people.
I don't understand that Linux users can't enjoy the streams of the EC. There are many (legal!) open standards available and there are lots of mediaplayers supporting these standards, that also play on Windows and MacOSX. I don't know what's illegal about that. Unless the EC has an exclusive contract with Microsoft or something like that.
The statement that Linux cannot be supported in a legal manner is obviously false for there are free codecs available. I agree with Rafal: why should we give money to U.S. companies?
Why choose a system that is deliberately broken when a much more cost-effective and flexible one is available? Do these people know nothing about technology? Clearly not
