What a shame for the EU...
If even a citizen need to pay in order to be a "real citizen.
Ho.. and yes.. why make Microsoft pay a huge infringment if you want everybody use only its codecs?
I'm in charge of the multimedia department in a public library. I think open source software is technicaly better, safety & good for mankind ; linux is better than Microsoft.
The EU forces MS to offer a Windows without MediaPlayer and now the EU forces its citizen to buy a Windows with Mediaplayer.
Who can understand this Bullshit!
In the united world of EU we don't need gates and windows. Especially creations like EU should use open, platform-independent software. All platform-specific patents and formats divide, not unite users.
It's incredible that EU supports closed sourced, proprietary et non european software company for codec, file format and browser. We don't have in Europe such big software company lie Microsoft. So, please, use open source compatible and normalised codec and browser for all of your datas.
european union must edit law to FORCE everybody and every compagnies to open ALL data formats and ALL protocols in order to create the basis for competition, innovation, interoperability and to preserve the liberty of choice.
Noone forces the use of proprietary, closed standards. Open and free (libre) alternative standards exist. Hence the choice to not support Linux is a political one.
It is ridiculous that the Council of the EU would be using closed standards for streaming media. This gives me a negative view towards the EU and their intentions.
