For some animated gifs on your Facebook profile or in your messages are a complete turn off. For many more a little animation can be fun. No need to overdo it, just give users the facilty to add some life to your user experience in Facebook.

I am biased because I make animated gifs but it would not have to be set up on the scale that Myspace can be, sometimes with overwhelming gif animations everywhere on peoples profiles.
