Save Title 9

I was browsing through girlsinc.org and I ran across a page that talked about the
Changing in Title IX, by the Bush Administration which I find unfair, because that just not fair as females we have to be excluded from everything isn’t that crossing the line isn’t that discrimination and the law said that you shouldn’t discriminate against sex, gender, age, color, or vice versa. Well isn’t that a hypocrite I don’t know if it’s going to be a good thing or a bad thing, but it seems bad. I don’t want title 9 to vanish then there won’t be any other way to get us into colleges besides academically why are we limit to some things that not fair. I will provide you with some statistics and a link that I found that will be helpful to you. As a girl who loves sport past this on to every female you knows to stop this, because they are taking away what the law said we are entitled to which is equality to men.

1971: Women in Varsity Sports only 325,000

1997: Women in Varsity Sports 2.5 million

2003: Loss of 350,000 participation opportunities; Loss of $120 million dollars in scholarships.

Yes I think the theory behind title IX is awsome. The down fall for this is that certain schools will not allow certain sports due to either money or female intrest. Take the state of Kansas, it is a hot bed for youth and high school wrestling but neither KU nor Kansas State will put wrestling in their school due to intrest or money. Is that fair to the Guys... I don't think so. So I think that the title IX rules needs to be revisted and reworded just a bit. I love watching sports of any kind. Yes I believe that women collage sports are not as "big" as mens, I think that is a shame. But ask yourself this. Is Division I school sports as big as Division II school sports? The answer is definitely no so should Division II programs be stoped due to the amount of money that they bring in or the amount of student athletes that it brings in? Again you have to say no to that question. Like I said the title IX issue has a good purpose but needs to be rewritten. Mike

Womens sports are growing. look at the WNBA and softball and Olympics and golf and well you get the idea. Let's allow them to grow and before too long we may forget when atheletics were just for men.

Title 9 is a good concept, but honestly, does not allowing males an opportunity because females have no interest in the topic sound right to you? No, it doesn't.

Go Title 9! There is now way I could ever think of life without sports. I have been swimming, playing basketball, throwing shotput and discus for years now. It's how I plan to get into College and to take that away is the worst thing you could ever do.

Title 9 needs to stay inplace and maybe some adjustments need to be made but to totally get rid of it is taking every females rights away. We live in the year 2006, Women are equals to men. Each school should be forced to give equal dollars to men and womens, in both High School and college levels. And as for the fact that womens sports have not made money is becasue they have not been given the chance to excel. Yes Title 9 started 30 years ago but it has taken that many years to get some colleges to start giving scholarships of any value to females. SAVE TITLE 9

first of all I think that title nine is a good thing for the ladies but the truth is that this takes away money for many of the men. It really isnt fair that a women who gets seventh in their division gets a full ride and a man wins first but gets nothing cause he is a single event individual. I think there should be a new title nine but it should read equal money for men and women but with football taken out of the equation. In everyother sport it should be equal. I do think that women are great athletes but dont kid yourself misty men are better athletes. Its not even close. really though title nine should stay but it needs to be re-written to exclude football.

Hmmm, yes, let's save title 9, that sounds like a stupendously stupid idea. I mean, come on. If women's sports were going to become mainstream and popular in the college culture, then they would have long ago. The simple principle of colleges are two things. 1, to make money for the college. 2, to get an education for the future. The only reason most college sports exist are because they make money for the school. Most Women's sports do not make money. It is a fact. Fact 2, there are not as many women out there who are interested in sports as there are men. If you don't like these concepts ladies, then go support your own sex's frickin sporting events and stop trying to save unfair advantages like title 9 from destroying our nation's universities.

I feel this is a bad decision. I feel it's wrong to take away Title IX. I've been participating in sports since I was little and doing school sports since 6th grade. If Bush was to take this away from us females we will not be able to do nothing. All sports in my opinion will be boring. I mean the Olympics and many other things. no more WMLS, WNBA, Women''s tennis and many other things. I have a great love for track and field and I have many medals, plaques, and trophies to show all my hard work. How will me and many other girls get scholarships to college. Some of us are not that strong academically . It's not fair that we as women get put down and treated like dirt in ever aspect. I mean it was many years before women could even vote. We have always been limited to many rights and some we still are in ways. Taking away Title IX is like taking away our heart and soul. I mean sports turn us around. Some of us girls woul be in jail or something if it was sports in our lives leading us in the right path. We need Title IX in our lives. Bush is an insensitive jerk in my opinion. What if he's daughters were active in sports? What would he do if they were out protesting with us. Bush in completely in the wrong. i don't care what he does as long as all this war stops and that Title IX stays forever. it's our life.

It is no wonder Bush, a man wants to do away with title 9. I know men feel threatened, and they should. Women have been discriminated against and objectified for years. When we finally begin to make some progress men want to nip it. The men against title 9 are cowards. they fear that we may not be the weaker sex after all. They should be scared. We have the same potential and we should recieve the same opportunities.

I think title 9 is a great thing that our country has done althought many of you guys iout there think that all girls wanna be in life is a great mother, lover, and a wife to our husband but we want to have our own little part of freedom too. Guys can't do everything out there. Without us there would be no you. Title 9 makes sports and life so much more fun. Sports is great but without womens sports there would be such a boring world. Womens sports brings competition and skill to sports.
