Harry Potter really is a rather crappy series. It thrives in mediocrity, while somehow managing to revel in the spotlight. I liken it to the WoW of movies/books. Not that great, catering to the stupid, and lasting for far longer than it should.

Harry Potter sucks.... 1) J.K rolling or what ever, copied J.R.R Tolkien in the way she wrote her name! 2) Every idea in her book was taken fro LOTR... A troll battle, the black things in dark robes in the 3rd or fourth book (aka) Nazgul!!! 3) Gandalf would kill Harry and Dumbledore or how ever you spell it. Harry will be all like LUMOS! Or some gay shit and Gandalf would just like swipe Harry in the face with his staff. If anything comes close to manly it would be snape... Harry potter has grade four spells and gay shit. He has been studying magic for like ages... fought saruman and killed a Balrog. Though he does not use cool awesome magic it still defines and makes the point of what a wizard should be. Harry Potter is intended for kids, and I don't understand the obsession with it. The plot is tedious, and makes me want to shoot myself everytime i hear the mention of this overrated book. I enjoy fiction novels but the plot is just too exaggerated. I don't understand how someone can find in reading about wizards and what not. To each is their own.

The whole "Harry Potter" empire is based on weak writing meant for kids in the fourth grade, and has been given far too much attention for what it has to offer (or, really, lack thereof). I tried reading it and I was amazed at how much it lacked as a legitimate story. Yet, J.K. Rowling is still touted as one of the best writers on the face of the earth, blah, blah, blah. Does anybody care to explain to me why?

I love Harry Potter. It's an intelligent series that has grown with the author. Nobody can tell me that it shows the "decline of culture". I agree that the fans are sometimes complete idiots, and fanfiction is almost pitiful, but the SERIES is terrific. The hype surrounding Harry Potter is proof of the decline of global culture. 140 years ago, people freaked out over Charles Dickens' books. Now I'll be the first to say I'm not the biggest fan of his writing but I at least respect his writing style, characterization, and moral outlook on life. J.K. Rowling, on the other hand, writes about as skillfully as a pulp science-fiction writer. I especially love her poignant metaphor about the "beast in Harry's stomach" regarding girls from Book 6. I'll admit to having read every single Harry Potter book simply as an armchair sociologist. It's really sad that people think this crap is genius and that even adults read it. Even sadder is all the fan fiction (aka "softcore erotica") that features these one-dimensional, obnoxious characters. But we won't get into that. The point is... Harry Potter sucks and makes me seriously worry about the state of modern literature.

I think your all just too idiotic and obbsessed with syaing it's a rip-off, when it is not.And of course REAL LIFE isn't like that off the life depicted in the Harry Potter books. It's a very well written FANTASY. Not a non-fictional book series. A fictional one. A very well made book seies, look a little harder, you'll find just how good it is.
The first few books were indeed a nice read, the third book was especially good. However, when you look at it as a series, you see how transparent the series is. Malfoy just so happens to turn out to be evil, Snape's a bad guy and kills Dumbledore, wow, I sure didn't see that coming. J. K. Rowling insults her reader's intelligence when she writes such unidimensional characters.

Unoriginal, juvenile, dry, boring, and lacking all those components that make heroic fantasy truly entertaining and inspiring. Completely overrated, for something that should be lapping at the heels of greater series writers, like George RR Martin's Song of Ice and Fire series.
