I read that petition and, it made me cry. I have been a volunteer firefighter for 3 years now, and I take pride in what I do. Last week we saved a 24 month old who fell into cardiac arrest. A week before that we dragged a man out of his burning house so his daughter could hold him again. Why do people hate us? Why?

To all whom this concers, I am a cadet on the road to becoming a FF. Personally I believe that anyone who is hating on the FF's should shut it. By what means do you have to judge them? You try waking up at 4 in the morning, drive 45 minutes to the station, clean/restock/fix the station, eat a meager breakfast, sit through 3 hours of meetings and trainings, get numerous EMS and Fire calls, drag a body out of a burning home wearing 50 Lbs. of gear in the middle of july when the Temps reach nearly 1300 degrees inside the building, risk life and limb for people you don't know, deal with the fact that you may never see your family and friends again after a run, get screwed over by polotics/government, deal with jerks like you and mabey get to snooze for an hour before another 911 call comes in. Of course you may see firefighters sit on slow days, but it is well deserved. Think about it.

hello i am a 21 year old firefighter in New Zealand, I work 10 hours a day in my carpentry job and i am on-call 24/7 for the fire service, I give up my time to help people in need and do not expect any credit for it, how can you justify not liking firefighters when the mojority of us volunteer our time (and lives) to help people in need,i can not see a reason at all, maybe if you got off your fat ass and helped other people that are not as fortunate as yourself maybe you would realise, or maybe you could space me the pain of picking up another childs body from the side of the road from a mangled car crash??? because really man SOMEONE HAS TO DO IT!

Of course we need firefighters. For many of the survivors of September the 11th, it was the firefighters who helped save their lives, it was the firefighters who put their lives on the line rushing into the towers and trying to tackle the flames from the burning twin towers. We owe repect to people like them because without them, how are we supposed to survive when there is a fire? Who's going to be there to help us if we don't know how to get out of the house and we're stuck in it. So, for the losers who think that firefighters suck, it's actually the people against them who suck! Go to hell with the firefighter haters!
