Politics and racial differances should be left out of sports.
Freedom is the right to do, within the realms of the law of the land, what you please. Those who dislike a show of ones own nationality have the freedom to go elsewhere.
Freedom should have no poundage, so let those seeking to shackle it in the name of the pound think again.
BRING BACK ALL NATIONAL FLAGS
1. The Turkish Cypriot flag is not a national flag because there is no Turkish Cypriot nation state. The flag is question is the flag which represents the Turkish occupation of north Cyprus, which all countries (baring Turkey of course) do not recognise as being legal and the ECHR has made countless negative judgements against. 2. As the flag in question symbolises the illegal pseudo-state, which was born from the racial segregation of the island and the forced ethnic cleansing of indigenous Greek Cypriots community (which amounts to a higher number than the WHOLE Turkish Cypriot community)..can you not see why Greek Cypriots would feel upset seing this flag waved in their faces at an Arsenal match?? Again, the flag in question is not a national flag and has many unethical conotations behind it which are on a par with the Nazi Swastika. Unfortunatly, people like the writer of the piece above are not fully informed of the issue at hand. Do YOU think its right to bring politics into a football match? That is what this Turkish Cypriot fan, who has ties with a politically motivated pro-racial segregation Turkish group, has done. When asked to take the flag down by Arsenal, he quickly gathered a solicitors letter and threatened to sue the club. Does this person seem like an Arsenal fan or hypocritical political activist to you? Would YOU put up with a flag that represents the opression of your people waved in your face, even if the rest of the political world has condemed what it represents???
I'm a Chelsea fan, but i'll support the arsenal on this, as it is a ridiculous decision and just another example of political correctness gone mad in our once great country.
CFC/RFC
Why is an English flag banned in an British country? Why is a flag projecting patriotism being banned from football matches at one particular ground? Why are Arsenal Football Club following the trend of political correctness that causes more segregation then happy football fans who can leave politics at the door?
The fact remains that football fans up and down England from the biggest to the smallest clubs wave the national flag of England with the club crest and other insignia. You're taking away a football institution from fans of your club who've more then likely been there a lot longer then your new world-wide base of fans and it's a kick in the teeth. Take away the politics and give the fans the right to fly the English or union flag at Arsenal's new stadium and stop trying to pull away from the roots of the game and the people that have made the club what it is.
This isn't just about Arsenal, but the entire world football community. How long before another club follows Arsenal's lead on this one? This is totally outrageous and must be stopped!!!!
how very dare they. .... it and bring fly flags anyway. Arsenal fly their flags a home games and that offends my decency but I do not throw my toys out of the pram. It is a flag. .... the pc culture that is rife in our society. I thought our democratically elected body of government allowed freedom of expresion and speach.
to be a global club and to be the biggest club in the world we r not helping r selves with this desition(no enlish first squad ), we must b a open minded club and let the flags fly high wat ever country (isrealy or arab) as r fan base has a global reach, if ther is a problem with r main sponcer (emerates) thay nead to be told that arsenal at the moment is still a british club and its fan base is global and in this country we respect diversity from every ethnic group. gooner
