Does this mean the clud will stop selling any merchandise at the club shop which contains the cross of st george. I think not. Total hypocrits are the directors!!
A ridiculous rule! Let all flags in instead, problem solved! And why still have the flags of the countries where the players come from on the back of the programme if its such a problem?
But waving big flags helps take our mind off the crap over priced food, the no smoking, no standing, no soul & too many jobsworth stewards that are now all part of the Ashburton football experience.
Is Arsenal not an English club ?
I notice that the flags representing the players international teams have not been removed from the matchday programe !!
Hammers fan here - The board of AFC should hang their head in shame as this is PC gone mad. In case the board have forgotten flags have been taken to football games for a lot longer than political correctness has.
Bring back the flags
west ham here ,sorry to see your club making a stupid ban on flying flags considering the amount of foreign players at your club and throughout the leagues
It would not happen in other coutries why ban it in our own?
I see you stand like greyhounds in the slips,
Straining upon the start. The game's afoot:
Follow your spirit; and, upon this charge
Cry 'God for Harry! England and Saint George!'
CD Tenerife Fan & Gooner here.
There needs to be a one game protest when thousands take along England or Union Jack Flags. It would never happen here in Tenerife!!
What a ridiculous rule. Why dont arsenal bans fans from breathing oxygen then maybe they will achieve the quiet stadium they crave so that Peter Hill Wood can sleep in his armchair and smoke cigars. They ban cigarettes, flags, Homaphobic chanting (of which there wasnt any to begin with) whats next? Why dont they just play in front of 60000 empty seats, will the board be happy then? PATHETIC!!!!!
I am a Cypriot (Turkish) The ban is wrong but the club must remove the offending flag as it does not represent Cyprus but the occupying forces from Turkey who have divided the island since 1974. Nicosia is the only divided capital in the world. Do not allow the Arsenal stadium to be a political platform for Turkey. All legal flags should be permitted into the ground. Please sort this out Arsenal!
Chelsea Fan. Will there be no end to this PC nonsense? PS Hope everyone enjoyed their Winter Festival - not allowed to say Christmas!!! I despair of this country sometimes
Hammers fan. We are in England and if we want to wave our St. Georges Cross we will...If this small percentage feel so strong about it, simple solution 'DON'T TURN UP' and if you hate England so much find another country.
The thing that makes football so unique from other sports around the world is the fan participation. And hanging national flags from the balcony is part of that participation. To disallow that would be disgraceful to all the Arsenal fans who make the long journey to Ashburton Grove.
I haven't been to the Emirates stadium yet but I was watching a goals review programme on one of the satellite channels last week. What struck me was that one of the games presented on the show attracted a group of travelling supporters who had chosen to display flags in the seated area in which they were situated. I think its quite common for football fans to display flags with their team name and perhaps home town on. I once saw a Derby County Flag which read DCFC ''Matlock''. It was of George Cross origin and measured roughly 6 foot by 4 foot. It had rope attached to it so that it could be tied to seats or fences. I can't recall whether Derby actually won the game at whcih the flag was displayed but I do recall that it was around about the time that Robin Van Der Laan was playing for them. Was he Dutch? The name certainly suggests as much. He played midfield I think.
the new stadium is identical to the stad dluz used at euro 2004 at the time club leval seats were sold photos were shown of how the ground would look using colour photos of the fantastic specticle shown by england fans on there visit ie ever available space was covered with a st george flag what a fantastic specticle the envy of the world here was a perfect oppertunity to create an atmosphere which was lacking at highbury and here we are 5months into our new home and we have become a laughing stock again
This is a ridiculous descion made by PC idiots who are hell bent on taking all the fun and colour out of football matches.BRING BACK THE FLAGS and end this madness!.
