Ban the use of Strychnine!
Published May 12, 2010
The poison found in Sweeney's mole killer products (http://www.wrsweeney.com) is zinc phosphide (strychnine). It is one of the most toxic poisons on the market and has no drug available to counteract its effects.

Read about the seriousness of it here: http://www.bt.cdc.gov/agent/strychnine/basics/facts.asp

Now to my story, and why this is so important to me.

For Allie (12 pound, 14 month old feist/daschund):

We planted mole killer underground (as the package directed) and even covered it with blocks of wood and my young dog Allie still managed to dig it up (apparently this product was made in a way to seem tasty to a mole so why wouldn't it seem tasty for a pet?). I called my vet on Saturday (after hours) on their emergency number after discovering she ate it and had been throwing up and was told by the vet that if she was throwing up that she was "fine" (which is the same thing Sweeney's told me once they called me on May 11th to inform me they were sorry to hear about my report of my pet's death). By 3 a.m. Sunday morning she had to be rushed to the vet because she was seizing violently and having horrible muscle spasms and rigidity, and non-responsive. I stayed with her for 3 hours, barefoot (which was how I ran out of my house with her). The vet pumped her full of drugs in an IV that made her heart go back to normal and brought her blood sugar up. I last saw her at 2:30 pm on Sunday, she died that night. I am completely devastated. I can't have children and my pets ARE my children and now one of them has been taken away from me. To know that Allie's death could've been avoided HAD A COUNTERACTING DRUG BEEN AVAILABLE hurts me to my very core. She wasn't just "some dog" to me.

Here is Allie (on the left) with her brother and sister (who miss her terribly) and had been with her since birth:

PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION! Even if nothing becomes of this, it helps me to feel as though I'm fighting back. Strychnine should be banned! What if it's your pet? What if it's your child? What if it's you? Strychnine is just as lethal to humans as it is to animals.

Thank you.
