Signatures #1800 through #1900 for the Release Italian & Iraqi Aid Workers Kidnapped in I... petition
J W said 09/14/04, 5:48 pm (verified)
I'd like to say that kidnapping the very people who are trying to help you is probably the stupidest thing you can do. You've got enough enemies - they're raining death on you with far superior technology and firepower you can never match. You need whatever Western friends you've got; whatever sympathy you can garner from Western hearts and minds. If anything, good people like the two Simonas' are the ones who can make a difference to you and your people's plight against the mighty American war machine.

You have taken people hostage who are working against imperialism! They have done what the rest of us pontificate about, that is, to really do something about occupation for power and stealing natural resources. They put their lives on the line to aid victims of the US led occupation. There is nothing sensible or moral about taking them hostage. Please release them unharmed so that they can continue their work.

I implore you to release Simona Pari, Simona Torretta, Ra'ad Ali Abdul Azziz and Mahnoaz Bassam. They have nothing to do with the war or occupation of Iraq and are good people who have been devoting themselves to helping the people of Iraq to live. I can understand the anger of the Iraqi people towards the United States and the coalition forces. I, and millions of people in the United States, think the occupation of Iraq is wrong and are deeply saddened and angered that America is dropping bombs and killing Iraqis and ravaging the country; we don't like the Bush administration and its policies either! If your cause is really to get the US and it's allies to leave Iraq, I do not think that taking the good people of Bridges to Bagdad is going to help your cause, just as the US killing of civilians does not help the US and coaltion forces to gain the trust or love of Iraqis and the world. There must be another way that people opposed to violence, greed and injustice can come together to try to solve the problems of these troubling times. We must find another way. Peace! Sandra Koponen

please release these four individuals immediately and realize the distinction between (civilan) individuals and their government. Just as there are many in the US who oppose the illeagle and horrifying actions of our government in Iraq (and around the world) these two italian woman were acting in defiance of their government's involvement in the occupation and only sought to provide humanitarian aid to the people of Iraq. I beg you to realize this abduction will not further your cause and I pray for peace for the entire region.
