I echo the comments of Danny Dayus (1964). It is also important to acknowledge that the "coalition" is escalating the conflict, with much of Iraq rapidly becoming a free fire zone, as numerous civilian casualties are being reported daily from several cities, and we are obligated to condemn these attacks in the strongest possible terms.

The World Crisis Web wholeheartedly joins you in your appeal for the release of the Italian and Iraqi aid workers. This site has always taken a strong line against the invasion and occupation, and supports the right of Iraqi people to resist that occupation. However, that resistance must respect the same human rights that it is trying to protect, and the kidnapping, or targetting of innocent Iraqis or of legitimate foreign aid workers falls completely outside all globally accepted standards.
