My experience as an anti-sanctions, anti-US policy, pro-Iraqi-people activist who has three times risked arrest by the US government in order to travel to Iraq and return to the US with images, stories and information to support an end to sanctions and prevent war is that Bridges to Baghdad is no instrument of any force other than love and solidarity.
The abduction of Bridges to Baghdad workers is neither an act of war, nor an act of resistance. It is an act of senseless cowardice and unthinking hate.
It is an act of cruelty against kindness, an act of greed against goodness, an act of tyranny against justice, an act of the evil against God.
Let them go.
As a person in mental health, we were sharing in our office today the effect of war and its rippling effects in our society. We have never recovered from Viet Nam and we are sowing the same karma with our involvment in Iraq.
One reason for this is the basic injustice of this conflict. We aren't defending ourselves -we're attacking countries
who are already having difficulty surviving.
