DO YOUR RESEARCH FREEP!
Published August 31, 2009
The Detroit Free Press recently printed accusations against Michigan Football Coach Rich Rodriguez and his staff claiming that in interviews with several current or former football players, the players allege that Rodriguez and staff violated NCAA rules regarding (mainly) the amount of time they were forced to practice / work out.

I'm all for freedom of the press, but when an organization such as the Detroit Free Press takes it upon themselves to have a vendetta against a coach and his staff and uses their power and influence to mislead people as to the kind of program Coach Rodriguez and staff are running, something needs to be done!

In the same year these allegations have been said to occur, the Michigan football team posted a team wide GPA that is the best in 20 years and potentially (according to Bill Martin AD), the best ever. So how does a team find time to study for their classes when they're spending almost all of their time working out and going to practice? This is a side of the story the Free Press would rather not report. You see, having a high team wide GPA is not a fact that helps their argument, and worst of all (for them) it actually makes Rodriguez and his staff look like they might be doing something right.

By signing this petition you are asking the Detroit Free Press to do their research before they make borderline slanderous claims against someone or something. You are standing up and telling the Free Press that if they want to make such claims, they need to have hard evidence instead of interviews with a few disgruntled kids who according to Chad Henne, "probably don't want to be here". The Detroit Free Press has had an agenda to destroy Michigan head coach Rich Rodriguez from day one, and it's time we let them know that this kind of reporting will not be tolerated! By signing this you are stating that you will not read the Detroit Free Press until they vow to do their due diligence before publishing an article and state that they will not bring their anti-Michigan bias into their supposed "fair" and "honest" reporting.

This is not about only reporting the positives regarding the Michigan program, it's about getting the facts straight and having the ethical responsibility and integrity as journalists to hold themselves accountable to both sides of the story! We deserve better than this as readers.
