If we want to end the occupation of Iraq then it is essential that we work together for a common purpose. Not all mujahadeen carry guns - but they all want freedom for Iraq and an end to occupation (CPT included). Let's not help the US Army divide us.
It is a grievous wrong that those who obey Jesus' teaching about doing good to all and seek to make peace should be killed. It will only undermine the credibility of those who claim to represent Islam
The targeting of people who have traveled to Iraq to act in support of the people and in opposition to this war and the occupation, is wrong headed and counter productive. Palestinians in the Middle East have demonstrated in support of their release. This situation is becoming known around the world. They should be released immediately with an apology. The hope for peace in Iraq must begin with a commitment to peace. And that must include safety and security for all.
These men came to heal and help. They did not hurt anyone. What possible justification is there for taking their lives. If your anger demands lives for the lives taken of those you represent, then take the lives of those guilty of the acts you seek to revenge. The madness of taking lives of helpers in our universe is as bad as any possible act of wanton murder. Indeed, it is worse.
I am Palestinian and I know first hand how important Christian Peacemaker Teams are in protecting Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza against the Israeli occupation. Hurting these individuals plays in the same hands you claim you are figting. Please set them free.
Collectively, humanity is at the apex of the dark night of the soul. Yet, we pray that you and more of us. particularly in this part of the world, will discover the sun at midnight.
