I am an American who is married to a wonderful man who grew up in Lebanon. I cherish the Middle East because I have never met a more loving people. It is America's loss that we close our minds to differnt ways of life instead of learning from them. I have been tortured, sodomized, broken bones, with no escape and with no representation for 25 years -- starting at birth. Nobody stood up for me. I was in Lebanon with my thirteen month old daughter in '93 when the Isrealis bombed -- what rage and fear and helplessness and hatredness to bomb innocent babies and their mothers who can't protect their babies. Most causualties are civilians. Like the US, the Isrealis were WRONG -- the occupiers. Don't do what our country did after 9/11 -- the day our country was rightfully drowning in sorrow. Every American, including me, whether or not they lost a loved one, was stunned and mourned and continue to mourn that infamous day. As with child abuse, the normal reaction is anger and rage. One would not be human if one did not react that way. If Iraqis were not full of rage the Iraqi people would not be normal. I feel rage at my country. The normal reaction to rage is revenge. After 9/11 most Americans wanted revenge and I don't thing many cared who we took it out on -- just so somebody did. Emotions stood in the way of intellect for most Americans. Then came Nationalism and most Americans gave thier full trust to our governmet -- which should never be done. As far as revenge Iraq was an easy target because our once "friend", Saddam, was our hated enemy plus our "weekest" enemy. Show America you are a people of peace and justice and love and allah and let the innocent go. I know you want someone to pay for your pain and suffering. The evilness of our government scares me too. Show them you are better than they are. people who condone this war, destruction -- we are doing what the terror
The people being held are not representative of the U.S. or any government. They are there due to their conviction against the war.You must be weary of the insanity of this war and I cannot believe in my heart you would people who represent PEACE.There are many who deplore this war.Our friends take no sides. They are there to provide hope, health, compasion .So much pain within the Iraqi families. Therefore, I again ask you to let the peacemakers go free and unharmed.Again, they do not represent the American government led by Bush,Cheney,Rumsfield, etc .Who am I ? Simply a concerned citizen who as so many others " see wrong and try to right it, saw war and tried to stop" , words taken in part from Sen.Ted Kennedy's eulogy at the funeral for his brother, Robert ( Bobby)who was assassinated in June of 1968.I am no Bobby Kennedy yet he grew to be a peacemaker and walf philosophically with Martin Luther King,Jr.So I pray toay, and tomorrow that you too see war, evil, injustice,in your nation and for the world. You"unknown"group to me ,I will keep you in my prayers as well along with my friends to please let them go free, and unharmed . In Peace, Mary Basombrio
The US Government cares nothing about the lives of these peace makers but those of us who opposed the war in Iraq do. Please spare the lives of these peace makers and help us try to return Iraq to the Iraqis.
Those who oppose occupation, exploitation, violence and misrepresentation must stand together in respect for decency, dignity, and the well-being of their global neighbors.
We know the work of CPT well from living in Jerusalem, where CPT members attended our Lutheran Church. These are people of great integrity; it is heartening to see that the many people who have learned to trust and respect their nonviolent work, those on whose behalf they have worked, are coming forward to add their support to this plea for their release.
