Dear State Legislator:

We are UTK students who would like to voice our concerns over the current budget situation at UT. As our classes get cut, our graduation dates seem farther and farther away, and we worry about our financial aid still being available next fiscal year. We urge you to support full funding for education. The state must maintain its commitment to UT students, staff, and faculty. The last thing that we need in an economic downturn is to reduce our investment in higher education, which would make us less competitive economically in the future. Budget cuts to education would sacrifice the economic future—our economic future—for the sake of a minimal short-term gain.

Thanks for your time and attention.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned

The University of Tennessee is one of the most utilitarian colleges in the U.S. It keeps its tuition low and is among the nations top public universities. To undercut its ability to make college affordable and educate youth, would have disastrous consequences for our state's economy.

I support this petition. Because of these budget cuts, the nursing(my major) department is only accepting less than half of the amount they usually do. This is one of the most demanding career fields and it is absolutely appauling that money is being taken away from a program with such high demand.

I support this petition. My daughter will apply to the UT School of Nursing this spring for admission in the fall. There is news that the number of students being admitted next fall will drop from 110 this year to about 48 for next year, all due to budget constraints. Please do not delay. Our children are vital to our future.
