The Roadmender has played an important part in my life for over 15 years. I have so many good memories about the place and hope to have many more experiences there. It is the top venue in Northampton and losing it would significantly ruin the arts in the area.
the roadmender is a fantastic venue. and the only one in northampton that i can see attracting the big bands that the people of this city will want to see. its placement is perfect, the acts it attracts are perfect! why has this problem come about? why cut funding? you would be robbing northampton of a valuable asset
Maybe if the NCC chiefs spent less money on fat wages, more time allocating their budget to things that actually matter in the town and took the time to listen to what the kids want, they'd realise that closing the Roadmender would be an extremely BAD thing for the people of Northampton
the people of this town need these venues and the concil seemhell bent on getting rid of them.stop wasting money councillers and look after the people on northampton
On the cusp of a musical awakening for Northampton, in the steady formation of a local 'music scene' it would seem totally and utterly rediculus to bring down the focal point for Northamptons muscians.
I have been going to the Roadmender for over 10 years now. It is a diverse venue with alot to offer and it would be a step back for Northampton if it were to close! It is also very important for the teenagers in Northampton as one of the only places they can go (legally) to listen to live music. Taking the Roadmender away from us would be a sin.
My mate met his future wife in the Roadmender, it has it all! entertainment, atmosphere, spirit, soul & romance! So NCC listen up! Northampton NEED the Roadmender!! Keep up the Funding, please.
I like the Soundhaus but we need more than one venue in Northampton. We're the biggest town in the UK apparently, so we need more than one sizable live music venue. Pull your finger out NCC!
As the government are making a song and dance about putting funding into "eduction education education" surely the extra curricular and creative outlet that a live music venue such as the roadmender should be supported not walked away from?
There aren't enough good venues as it is in the Midlands. Leicester lost the DMU Student Union and the bands no longer come here - don't do something which will affect lots of people for many years to come.
i run a live music promotions company in herts. I have seen first hand the importance of live music in the lives of young people. live music is a positive and creative outlet for young people and live music venues are increasingly important. please reconsider cutting funding to the roadmender.. i see it as a major blow to the youth of northampton
The Roadmender means so much to the town, its a place where every part of the community can enjoy and further themselves. They have a large variety of music, they bring in bigger bands that wouldn't play at the Soundhaus coz its small and rubbish, and it gets the kids off the streets with their under 18's clubs. It would be very worrying indeed if the council decide to pull the funding, as they have already pulled the money from the Abington street fair, it makes you worry about what they'll take away from us next! I say boot the Torys out!!!
Having grown up in Northampton during the prime of the Roadmender, I can safely say that it is, without doubt, a very integeral part of Northamptons social and nightlife.
The venue aids to the towns diversity greatly. Closing it would be a disaster for the many people that use it as a haven away from the 'dinking town yob' impression that I now Northampton has.
Where else in the local area would be able to attract the bands, artists etc that the Roadmender does? Closing it down is just another step towards making Northampton as anonymous & characterless as so many other towns across the UK - full of the same shops and chain bars.
One of the very few places in Northampton that isn't constantly full of aggro-searching townies. The decision to close it should not be upto Councillors who understand nothing but saving money. Idiotic idea. Well done!
This venue has stood it's ground for more than 70 years and has marked it's name for being the leading venue for new and emerging bands in Northampton. Furthermore it has a strong focus on youth in the community and should not be allowed to disappear. There's talks that fund will be piped into something similar ... we know that the reality is that this would not amount to anything anywhere near as good and why try something else when we have an established and recognised venue already here?
keep it afround, not only is it a place for the alternative youth to enjoy themselves, its a landmark that is used a lot when describing the town. its important. keep it around.
I worked at The Roadmender for about 2 years and if I wasn't for that, I wouldn't have made some great music contacts that are still very useful now 3 years after leaving.
The venue is very unique in it's style and variety of events. I'm sure people agree that since The Roadmender re-opened it has created a vibrant venue for the town, which helps to give the town a positive attitude towards the arts.
It does always seem however, that when Local Governments need to make budget cuts, the arts unfortunately seem to always suffer first. I guess they'll keep it, only if the can put speed cameras on ever straight throughout the Borough!!!
The loss of The Roadmender would be a massive blow and I really hope that it is saved.
the roadmender is Northampton's largest venue which is lacking a large venue and really needs a larger venue so closing down the largest current venue is a bad idea more bands need to be booked to play here and the venue will be succesful
Such a cool venue to play and to go to it isn't used enough anyway so not only does it need to stay open but it needs to get alot more good current bands playing.
jst keep it. i dnt no wot it is or where it is but i figure if that many ppl want it open y shut it. these r obviously ppl that wud go to it if u kept it open so keep it.
This is the fault of the stingy capitalist pigs of the government, they care nothing for art, culture or the welbeing of the public. Capitalism is synthetic, pay-monthly freedom, also it rots the mind.
Communism is total equality, but it is oppressive.
Anarcho-Communism, true freedom and equality, for the UK!
haha, honest dude i know who you are and everyone ignore him he's a pretencious fag who hates everyone and everything happy or sad . . .confused poor bugger . . .hey fin did street life give you that script?
ahem, sorry, i said 'and it is being closed down because on one youth night a week' which means there is a time for yoths, but the youths part of it is the reason it isn't being funded anymore junior
Ok, here's the deal - pretty much every single one of you only know roadmender because yu "mosh" or group hang at the fri-up. Ok the occasional person goes to a REAL GIG but roadmender is a place for adults and adults only, and it is being closed down because on one youth night a week the reputation of Roadmender is going downhill, the government do not want to keep a public place open if alcohol and violence are a main part of it. This is the REAL reason why roadmender is closing down, BECAUSE OF YOUTHS! not because they are the fascist machine. It is your fault for ruining a place of brilliant ART and THEATRE!SO BEFORE YOU THINK ABOUT BLAMING THE MACHINE THINK ABOUT HOW YOU RUINED IT! YOU FAKELESBOBISEXUAL EMO GREBO GOTH SKEMO GREMO GOTHEMO WHATEVE THE F*** YOU ARE!
Hey Hey, don't close the roadmender. It may have had a shady background, but it does get quality acts that are appreciated. I have realised that it is in a bigger crisis than I thought and have made sure all my friends from Doncaster and other places where they don't get the opportunity to listen to good music know what is going on and have persuaded to come down more often to listen to the local acts too. I hope they will also sign the petition.
NCC, Roadmender is not yours to take away from us...Roadmender belongs to the people of Northampton. To all the County Councilors that are voting to withdraw funding this is your chance to give us faith in the system and confidence in Northamptonshire and not another reason to move to Milton Keynes.
yo muthaf*ckos, keep this b*Tch open, its the only place me an my mudafckin juggalo homies can meet up in ways only lo's and 'lettes can, sop keep this b*Tch open or else! aint no revenge like juggalo revenge!
