A growing town like Northampton needs venues like The Roadmender for music, comedy and theatre and clubbing isn't just r n'b and dance!
Nobody's asking for Roadmender to be publicly funded forever, just until the good work being carried out by the new management gets it back to its best.
We can't keep closing down facilities like this in our community. This resource not only opens up the arts to young people but is a stage for new artists in the local and wider community. Shame on you - who will be the first to complain when the young people wander the streets! Northampton town centre will soon be a ghost town and who will want to visit us then? /we should be promoting venues like this - not closing them down.
I am go to every fri-up at the RoadMender, and if they shut down, we are we all going to go, we cant just live our lives in our houses, Theres nothing wrong with it so just back off it!!!
I will be attending the protest on wednesday and the meeting on thursday!!! KEEP IT OPEN!!!
The plans to close Roadmender are an absolute disgrace. We have a duty to ensure that young people have access to adequate facilities, Roadmender over the years has been the prime cultural venue for young people in the area and the local authority should be ashamed of the decision to withdraw funding.
A vital arts centre such as this should not be threatened with closure. It provides people in and around Northamptionshire with an opportunity to experience live arts aswell as providing a stable platform for local musicians and artists. We cannot allow a council to be so short-sighted.
Without the Roadmender the kids of Herts will be left with only the appauling soundhaus to go to. The Roadmender is an amazing olace for socialising, and without Northampton will be a lesser town

I have never been to the Roadmender but as a truely avid music enthusiast since the 60's it's reputation preceeds itself and the closure of any music venue that encourages new bands and music is nothing short of sacrilage. Without appearing to be too political this once again smacks of the new Conservative adminisatration flexing it's considerable muscles and failing in it's pledges to support the local community.
Roadmender is the only decent place in Northampton where under 18's can go and feel safe. And how will the towns new bands get fame if they avn't got anywhere to start out.
What a stupid place to close down. This was, and could be again, one of the most important cultural communites in northamptonshire. please don't close it, use it.
Withdrawl of funding flies in the face of County Council strategies to support a diverse and vibrant culture. Do we want Northamptonshire to become as dead a place to live as many other short sighted towns and cities.
A historic, vibrant venue for promotion of art, music, drama & all worthy activities - for the benefit of the young people must be kept open. Its good to see that those who use, appreciate & value it outnumber the Tory County Councillors who oppose keeping the funding for a further year of this 'credit' to the town. So many events, workshops & opportunities are offered to youngsters in a safe, but grownup environment. Surely anyone can see it is worth giving continued support to it.
A town this size needs to keep a proper venue for live acts close to the centre. If a place like the Roadmender closes eventually all we will be left with will be theme bars and night clubs.....NOT GOOD!!
How many more times do we have to sign petitions to 'save the Roadmender'? It's a great asset to a town thats only let down by the short-sighted, unimaginative people who are supposed to lead it.
Once again our County Council has shown a blatant disregard for the people of Northampton and common sense by deciding to withdraw their funding for the Roadmender. Can they not see that their complete lack of ambition will ulitmately condemn Northampton to forever be a forgotton town where it's potential was never realised.
At a time when Northampton is gaining a reputation for its high quality arts productions and commitment to provide a range of arts experiences, to consider withdraw of support from this nationally respected venue is short sighted and potentially damaging to the reputation of the borough.
It would be stupid to close the Roadmender! I travel from Milton Keynes as is is because there are no decent gig venues around here. Where would I go if you close it down?!
I came here with my family all the way from lincolnshire and had a great evening that i wont forget. It is more than a shame if i can't bring my family here in the future.
My 14 year old son saw the Subways here recently, he had a great night with his mate.Where will he go soon, a park bench?? Memories are priceless, but we all need the inspiration first.
With the Arts Council removing their funding it is even more important that the local council continues to support this important venue. There is nowhere else in Northampton that you can get such a mix of entertainment and art in one place. Bands of all musical styles, comedians, club nights (including a night for young teenagers), performing arts and a gallery all add up to a unique place that cannot just be pulled out from under the feet of Northamton people and the surrounding areas. The Roadmender also plays a crucial role in supporting local talent, through the use of workshops and allowing new bands to play there. Who knows what will happen to the place if they go down the commercial funding route?
The Roadmender is an institution, it can't close.
Plus, we have no venues of a similar size to the Roadmender where I live (Milton Keynes.) so if it closes there will be nowhere nearby for us MK'ers to see decent bands play live.. we will have to head to London instead.
The Roadmender is a Northampton landmark, I've watched it change from a hall with trestle table bar in a room off to the side to an air conditioned venue that hosts all different forms of music and art events.
The Roadmender is Northampton history keep it alive!
It doesn't surprise me that the Council wants to cause the demise of one of the few landmarks left in this dying town. The Roadmender is a unique venue offering young and old a safe, exciting and entertaining venue to enjoy. As a taxpayer I say NO to the withdrawal of funding.
It is essential that the Roadmender be kept open, surely this great facilty is a must, it is an extremely valuable asset to Northampton and the surrounding area.
This location has been a big part of my life. To loose such a venue would be bad for Northampton. I don't want to hang around the streets with "Rachel S".
Never been there myself, but a similar thing happebed to the Riverside Clubin the town I grew up in, and the place was so dead as a ****in dodo afterwards that I moved to London.
plz dnt close roadmenda i love it dere its the best place on earth n all the ppl i love go there aswell even my m8 hu ive known 4 eva n i hardly eva c her plus the music is wel good
