The Roadmender should stay open for music fans of all ages - not just youngsters. It is the only decent venue in the county and has too much history to be closed.
Live music is an essential part of a fulfilling existence. It's not neccessarily 'high-art' - it's People Art. Every local authority should have an obligation to ensuring their community has plenty of opportunity to enjoy it.
What needs to be said!! Let’s get rid of all infrastructure and let our neighbouring counties reap the rewards!! Is the council embarrassed to get people into the county? They seem to be doing a fine job of keeping them away!
IKEA anybody? No, we let that one go too!! Great job councillors. Great Job!!!
THINK. I appreciate your under presure to reduce spending. But you are also obliged to provide something for young people to do. By pulling funding for the Roadmender you're saying "go drink on the streets cos there's nothing else to do". And how the hell is that 'moving things forward'?
Some of my favourite gigs have been at the Roadmender.
It's a landmark, and this is typical of councils today, short sightedness personified!
Make it work, and SHOUT about it, as it doesn't publicise itself nearly enough.
I havn't lived in Norhtampton that long but I know tons of people that have been going to the Road mender for a long time. Sounds like a worthwhile place that should continue providing varied and valued entertainment for lots of people !
This is an excellent venue for young people's entertainment, there is nothing else specifically for young people in the whole county. Please continue funding it
The youth of Northampton and the surrounding area will suffer from Roadmender closing not the people who actually want to close it. Why is it we pay all this tax for government golf days and we get our only local music venue taken away from us. I have spent many happy hours at the venue and have had many memorable experiences especially seeing more well know bands come alive in a small venue. If you close this place we will be forced to go and see poor quality local pub bands and the music scene will most likely die out, especially for those who live in the surrounding areas where there are never any good local bands playing. I cant believe the council would think of shutting such a culturally diverse venue that caters for such a wide audience. Would you prefer us hanging about on street corners and making a nusience of ourselves. And they say the council our supposed to be doing things for the community, well if killing the life of the youth in this town is good for the community then I dont know what this world is comming to...
The people of Northampton are lucky to have such a good venue and everything possible should be done to keep it available. There is nothing similar in the surrounding area and it is the people of Northampton who would lose out from its closure.
Local musical and artistic venues are the lifeblood of a vibrant and evolving community. And attempt to deprive your community of such a resource is in effect a betrayal of the principles under which you were elected. Public Servants are to Serve the Public. They are to make our lives more full, not less.
This is a land mark of Norhampton history and since the refurbishements is an even better place please dont close it, Were willl all the new up and coming stars start?
Its a great place, I dont go that often, but when I do its awesome...Dont close it, it would be a waste, I have seen some moderatly big bands there that wouldnt have came to northampton if they were not playing there. There is no other place like it here. It keeps kids off the streets, and brings people into the town, 2 birds with one stone. You know it makes sense...
Closing the Roadmender down would be a nail in the coffin of entertainment in Northamptonshire - where would young people go to see bands and why would others come to this county if there was no Roadmender ? Come on councillors, wake up and realise that the county can't afford to lose any more unique amenities like Roadmender.
i cant beleive yout gonna close this place! its really good n has loads of different stuff there! if kids cant go there then ther just guna go on the streets n the council r just guna moan bout that! make ur mind up for gods sake
After witnessing the legendary subways play at such a well furbished venue as the roadmender, this idyllic site of musical beauty cannot be shutdown. The roadmender is part of our heritage and without it, we are only really left with the soundhaus and a much less diverse selection of bands. As Martin Luther King once said: "just don't even bother shutting the roadmender down, the bands that play there are ****ing awesome".
Support the Roadmender, it's the only place in Northampton that attracts up and coming bands such as the Kaiser Chiefs, Subways, Ordinary Boys and Rooster but still gets bands such as The Damned, Supergrass, Ocean Colour Scene and the Dead Kennedys, but also more specialised bands like Dillinger Escape Plan, Dropkick Murphys and the Horrorpops. Couple that with the comedy nights, art gallery and theatrical aspects and the fact that the Roadmender's name and reputation preceeds it, and tell me why exactly you want to pull funding for the venue? A comment I've noticed running throughout the petition is how people feel "safe" at RM, and parents are happy to let their kids go because they know where they are and what the score is. What's going to be done to replace that feeling of safety and security if the Roadmender does have to close? Put the kids on the streets? Mmm, nice and safe that. Just do us all a favour and support the venue rather than close it.
You can't stop funding RM! It's the only place in N'pton that gets up and coming bands such as the Kaiser Chiefs, Subways, Ordinary Boys and still gets bands like The Damned and Dead Kennedys etc, not to mention having the comedians, art gallery & exhibitions and the theatre. Roadmender's name and reputation preceeds it, and that's the way it should stay! For the sake of everyone in the area, support the Roadmender.
The Roadmender can't be closed down, the only other venue that bands might go to is the Soundhaus an thats not as good. We need a few quality bands to play in the near future to higher its status as a venue. Bands like Bloc Party, Kaiser Chiefs, Airflow, Razerlight, Ed an the Cleaners, The Prodigy. o yea an Tricycle Fucking Death! Top acts like this would prove what the Roadmender is capable of!
The Roadmender is a vital part of Northamptonshire, out of all the gig venues I have been to this is the one thats had the best atmosphere, most down to earth people, best security and best lay out. I have many memories, I only recently 2 years ago started going there. My boyfriends old band played there many times, and this venue gained them a name in the area. I remember watching them there, and I had the best night there. Also I saw the Kaiser Chiefs there before they were even famous and even got to meet some of them. The Roadmender, has something special about it, it presents up coming new artists, local bands, and many exhibitions, I really have no idea at all what the community would do without this magnificent place. Its one of a kind, and many young, middle aged, old people would miss it dearly, so please dont let such a prime place fade away!
the roadmender brings great music to the area and provides young and old with a safe place to go - the council should rather be looking to expand + put on more gigs! surely if run properly, this would be a benefit to EVERYONE!
I've been going to the Roadmender for years. First gig there was The Men They Couldn't Hang. Since then I've seen the likes of Paul Weller, The Cranberries, Echobelly, Chumbawamba, Dr Feelgood, Stiff Little Fingers, Kitchens of Distinction, Sleeper, Carter USM , The Damned and plenty of others. It's about time the arts in the UK were treated with the respect they deserve. Long live the Roadmender.
roadmender is the best place to hang out and if it closes there will be hundreds of really disapointed kids and adults too. Northampton town centre couldn't exist without roadmender!!
dont let it close! we need more places like this, not less. wandering streets is no fun. they complain about ppl hangin around on the streets then force them out of places like this.
i've been going to the roadmender for over 10 years its changed my life! without the roadmender, northants would be a barren wilderness of the gigging scene! Northants and its music hungry population deserve to keep this fantastic venue which has hosted countless gigs and enabled me and many like me to see and experience live music which has enhanced my existence beyond description! Please
please keep supporting the roadmender!!
Keep roadmender open because it keeps us entertained on a friday ngith, if not it's boring and all that will be left is Spoons to watch, and yeah, Spoons is pretty funny, but i'd say raodmender is far more better to hang out and be social... DUH! I'd be sad if roadmender closed... who will i snog?!
