I was under the impression that the Council (both County and Borough) were aiming to encourage 'arts' and 'culture' in Northampton. I'm certain that closing a venue with potential to do so much for a town that has so little to attract people interested in 'art' and 'culture' will only damage any progress made. As far as I'm aware the Roadmender is one of the only venues in Northampton that people attend a gig or exhibition at, so if it's not making the money to be funded, why not? Promoting high profile artists and musicians can only bring more to the town's fairly non-existent 'cultural centre'.
It'd be a big shame if the Roadmender ends up shutting down. Since the investment refurbishing the club, it's become a great sounding music venue. Also, it's still one of the few local venues with decent wheelchair access & adapted facilities, and the busy team seem genuinely keen to include everybody.
without the roadmender where will we go for all our decent live bands, club nights and arts? the roadmender is a brilliant cultural venue and should stay
last comment should read.
FUND THE ROADMENDER CORRECTLY & YOU MAY WELL REALISE LIKE SO MANY PLACES OF INTEREST THIS COULD BENEFIT NORTHAMPTON'S INFRASTUCTURE
One of the oldest remaining places in Northampton, the Council hasnt got nothing else to do but shut it down, they wanna stop giving large payrises to their lazy good for nothing colleagues/bosses & get off their arses & do something right for a change KEEP IT REAL. Fund the Roadmender correctly & you may well realise like so many places of interest this could benefit Northampton's infrastucute.
think of all the local bands that aren't making it big time ,they practise they stay out of trouble.they have small ambitions but they all have one thing in common they LOVE music and ask any local band what they would like to do and many would reply that they would love to play at the Roadmender,it is the top venue for our local music scene. There are hundreds of other young local musicins that aspire to play at the Roadmender.
DONT CLOSE THIS VENUE.
Well i really do feel roadmender should be shut down. It causes bad influences on the dirty ****in greebos and goths that hang round that tramp house. They are just ****in digustin what kind of example are they showing future years...Dont wash, wear dirty black makeup if your a boy, listen to rackets like slipknot and Korn, Its sick and those dirty freaks need to go home and let the normal children go in. They drink, smoke, fight. Its not right its silly and immature. Kaos is also really dumb because bare chavs go down there and attack each other outside. And most people that go are ****in ugly munters. Close it now before there are even more dirty grebs. Theres too many these days outside paperchain they are a disgrace to our town i hope they all die. Ugly freak shows people come to northampton by bus and get off see nasty greasers and turn around and leave. They skateboard up and down abington street scarying innocent people, kick them out the town is what i say. Nasty freaks.
this place is for people of all ages. Dont take away the one thing everyone can enjoy. This is the heart of Northampton, dont remove the one place we all love.
I've watched and played many gigs throughout the last 10 years at the Roadmender. Over the last year the qualtiy in entertainment has seen quite a rise. It's a shame such a decision is being made at such an exciting time
Went to a few concerts here years ago...keep it open, run more event, make more money then you will require less funding for both the Roadmender and other "culture"leaving more for your own bank account.
How can you justify a venue that in the last year has increased their audiences by 30% and put on 15% more events. Closing the Roadmender will leave the Soundhaus to be a monopoly of lagre venues!!!
The Roadmender shouldn't close as it is the only venue that you actually get to the front. I discovered a new band called Last Stop ChinaTown there and was in there video shoot. The venue also gives new bands a chance to perform .
The Roadmender has been a haunt of mine since my school days - but it isnt only nostalgia that should keep this great venue open.
Where else in the whole county is there a venue of this size? What other venues can attract such a diverse mix of artists?
Closing the Roadmender would be a massive blow to the music scene of the county as a whole...
Myself, family and friends would be deeply saddened if the Northampton County Council will not give the funds you deserve.
We have been enjoying the 'Great Entertainment' at the Roadmender since the 80's. My children are regular Friday night attendees and have made many friends there....please, at least, keep the kids entertained, motivated and off Northampton's back street corners.
I am getting sick and tired of everything in Northampton being shut down! We need the Roadmender - especially the Saturday club nights! Remember the old Maggie T nights from 10 years ago - wicked!
Roadmender is enjoyed by hundreds if not thousands of people.(at least we can see where some of our council tax is going)
Withdrawing council support cannot be justified, but then again the council can "spin" until we are dizzy!
Professionally as a Police officer I believe that it is vital that an Arts Centre and music venue attracting our young people such as the Roadmender is, is maintained and indeed the County Council should be working to improve the upkeep, management and funding of the Roadmender. I will support you as much as I can. As a father of a 15 year old daughter, she'll kill me if I don't fight to keep it going.
Northampton is very lucky to have a very close-nit arts community. The lack of cliquey factions is refreshing and the Roadmender is a vital focal point and losing it would have a severe effect on the arts in this town.
On a more personal level I have had more memorable and historic nights (gigs/clubs) in the Roadie than anywhere else and I would shed buckets of tears to see it go. It's worth way more than that.
