have you considered the effect on local businesses that profit from people who stop at thei shops businesses on the way to roadmender you will not only effect roadmender local area business will suffer too
Hey ! Just heard the news....you can't possibly close the Roadmender down !!!
I've been going there for donkeys years, and the place is STILL a legend, giving ALL the cool bands somewhere to play, and easy to get too, right near the bus station !
People from Leics love it too ya' know !!
This venue has been a valuable resource in the development of local bands and provided much enjoyment for the people of Northampton. It should remain OPEN!
Me ish new to northampton, me moved here and one of the leisure activites i am looking forward to ish Roadmender. You can not close it down, young people need a place to hang out and keep off the streets, away from crimes and drugs. ˇIt should stay open for the young culture out there! ˇPlease stay open for as long as Northampton stands on the earth! ˇWOOOO! ˇMe encanta Roadmender! =D
I had heard of the Roadmender long before I moved to Northampton. It's an institution important to the town. I can't believe the County Council are prepared to bring about its demise.
the though of the roadmender going is threating the livelyhood of all the people who use it. whether young or old. it doesnt matter. the roadmender has been a huge success bringing money and northampton to life at night. as a personal user of the roadmender i cannot see why the council have looked at withdrawing the funding. in a nutshell the english government want to stop "youths" parading the street as if they own it and terroising the public. ok the social group who use the roadmender are different to this. it opens up the chance for us to be terrorised by the "hoodies" which lurk the streets. there is no good my typing this ant that about the council. but for one please look at the bigger picture. thankyou for your time.
I spent many a happy hour discovering new music at the Roadmender in my youth and to close it would deny a whole new generation the chance to do the same. Don't do it!
Cut Roadmender and you cut a whole sub culture out of your town. The worst police in the midlands, and one of the lowest rated hospital in the UK. Now another reason to look elsewhere
i am writing this in support of the roadmender...don;t close it otherwise my mate Stu will have to travel to bloomin' London everytime he wants to see live music...
to even consider getting rid of this landmark, this social point, and this part of our lives is absolutley obsurd. it has been part of history and needs to stay this way for many years. please do not destroy something practical and legendary.
Rdmendas gr8!! U cant shut it down!! The councils always saying about how they want young poeple of the street and rdmenda is sumwhere 4 them 2 go. Close that down nd there will be more kids hanging around!!
Northampton's a cultural desert as it is. Roadmender's the only venue that caters for a young audience who want to hear new music, and not an endless stream of tribute bands which seems to be all Derngate offers.
Seriously, whoever thought up the idea that Roadmender deserves to be closed is a fool. How can such a decent place that provides not only somewhere to go, but a whole way of life, be closed down. If Roadmender closes then there will be more people out on the streets at night causing trouble. Northampton council, you pick which you'd prefer!
The Roadmender is more than just a nationally-known venue, it does a great deal of community work with young people. To lose it would have repercussions far beyond not having somewhere go out on a Friday night. The Council should do the right thing by the people of Northampton and continue to support it.
Personally I've had some lush nights at the Roadmender, it's a facility used by people from the whole of Northamptonshire, and brings recognition to the town. It would be a shame if it was to close.
So a venue that can host nationally acclaimed bands like Hard-Fi, and provide a central focus for the huge amount of musical talent in Nortrhampton, is fair game for cost cutting by the Council? Shame on them, it would be a huge loss if it were to go.
Having played and enjoyed watching live music at the Roadmender, it would seem a great loss to the community if it were to close. I am from leicester where we have the Phoenix which is a very similar venue and is invaluable for modern and foreign arts and culture. Keep this bright light shining in what otherwise would be a rather dull town.
The current Roadmender team have made huge efforts to reduce the debts incurred by previous administrations. Why try to shut it down now that it is finally being well managed?
I came to Northampton nearly ten years ago, and the only thing i knew of the town was the Roadmender. I heard of the Roadmender a long time before i had heard or even knew where Northampton was. Thats the value it has for this town.
This town is already seriously lacking in so many ways, especially culturally. If you take the culture away you're taking away a lot of peoples education, ambition, and purpose for a positive way of life. The closure of the Roadmender will have major repercushions on the local committee.
What will the people of northampton do without its premier music and arts venue ? The northampton music scene will be dead ! roadmender is the publics venue kepp it open ! and lets see more great acts like we have done in recent years !!!! The council are stupid !!!!!!!!!
I don't in Northampton or anywhere near, but it sounds to me that the Roadmender is a valuable resource to the community. I live in South Devon where resources similar to this are very few and far between.
Don't let the young people of Northampton down.
This venue is a place where up and coming bands can start from, locally we are bereeft of decent live venues for alternative music, this would be yet another poor funding decision.
I have seen great music at The Roadmender. To deny Northampton that is a crime. It is also the most prestigious venue for bands in Northampton to play. The Council should get it's funding priorities in order.
This would be an absolute tragedy if the Roadmender were toclose down. It's the centre of an extremely vibrant and proud music scene in Northampton. i myself regularly travel from miles away to attend gigs in this wonderful venue.
I play in a local band called The Red Ants and the Roadmender is your only chance to see and support national bands, to close this fantastic venue would shatter the dreams of every musician and band in Northamptonshire!!!!
As the owner of multiple clubs & live music venues we wish the Roadmender every success and encourage Councillors to understand the need to invest in Creative Industries & Live music
Quite simply, it would be a waste to let the Roadmender close. After it's relaunch following lottery funding, and considering the numerous acts that have played there (only this week Radio One DJ Jo Wiley played her national show from Npton), it makes no sense to close it now. UCN has been granted University status, there are plans to apply for city status - the town needs more cultural venues like this, not less. It seems tragic to let such a venue die.
Please keep the Roadmender open it's important to me & all of my friends. We have been going there for the last 10 years & have never seen any trouble there. Only enjoyment!
The Roadmender has been finding its feet again over the last six months or so. It seems strange to withdraw funding just as that funding is beginning to take effect.
as a musician who really luves her local sence i love to go to the roadmender and see local or other bands.i also study music at northampton college and our last gig of the year is here so we have something to aspire to. young musicians meed this place and more to help us understand the music industry. you should help this place we need more venus for live bands not less
It would be an absoulte disgrace to close the Roadmender. I come over from Leicester for a line-up that has gone from strength to stength in the last year. There are few places in the country that act as a better arts venue, and NCC should be treasuring its assets rather than putting their future in doubt.
