I've seen many friends bands play there and it seems like an awesome venue, and one of very few of its size that gives opportunities to up and coming bands. As a band member from the East Midlands, I can safely say that it would be a great loss to the underground music scene if it were closed down.
I have always viewed the Roadmender as a wonderful, multi facected venue that provides opportunity, interest and vitality to Northampton. Closing the Roadmender will damage the heart of town and the closure will mean the end of a unique venue enjoyed by the whole community and more.
The Roadmender is one of the few good things Northampton has going for it - important as much for the community as it is a great night out. Cease funding at your own peril!
(Though I see no reason why the good old days of Taste, Gods Kitchen, Maggy Thatcher, Carwash and the like can't be explored more, as a source of additional revenue and reaching a wider audiance?!)
I am totally against the stopping of funding Roadmender. Roadmender is a vital asset and focal point of the development of great bands and music in Northamptonshire. Without Roadmender many will lose out on music opportunities and the following of music careers for all those great musicians out there. Northampton has a fairly limited night life as it is and taking away Roadmender will make it dead, just think about all those teenagers and young people...where will they go that is local and provides such a enjoyable, sociable and musical night life and opportunities???
Close Roadmender and you'll have a BIG problem and the people responsible will never hear the end of it!!
This is Northampton's best venue! £65k?! I can tell you NCC probably waste 100 times that amount in inefficient working practices and rubbish consultants (literally millions). This place is one of Northampton's key cultural locations. It would be a travesty to force it to close.
I don't think this council can be trusted to decide what is worthy of OUR money - last year nearly £200k wasted by having 80 phone service providers and then paying someone to come in and tell them this. This is OUR money, not theirs. Public servants, or self-serving incompetents?
I find it utterly astonishing that the council would even entertaining the idea of withdrawing what is (in local government terms) a relatively small amount of money. I dread to think how much was spent on the refurbishment of Mayorhold car park and now that is closed at times when the Roadmender is open. This is petty penny-pinching at it's worst. Northampton NEEDS the Roadmender as it is the only venue capable of ensuring a healthy, ongoing cultural scene for the type and size of events it currently hosts.
taking music away from London and distruputing it to places such as Northants is cruical for the British music scene. places like this provide a place for the rest of the nations music fans to see some wonderful bands as well as providing the venues that all of the up and current British bands need to find there feet. shutting the Roadmender down would be devistating for its many users, as well as setting a dangerous precident for other similar venues.
roadmender shouldnt close, because its in good place, Roadmender give us a chance to listen to new stuff what's out there, instead of having to listen to same old bands with same old covers they keep on playing in pubs and night clubs!
!!! AND ROADMENDER HAVE THE BEST DISABLE ACCESS IN NORTHAMPTON !!!!
MARCUS BAKER
Even though I'm about to retire, I say let the youth of Northampton have their choice. We all need to contribute something to allow them to enjoy their music. [Better that than paying these officials their higher salaries/pensions to provide less and less for the public]
this must not be allowed to close this venue is a part of the u.k's music heritage would you close the albert hall ? i dont think so ! so why the double standart for the provinces ?
Roadmender is part of northampton.had great bands we dont want to lose it. we will have nothing to remember northampton by.do the council realise what will people visit for now.
It would be a great shame if it was to shut,it's a great venue.I have had many great nights out there.
Well worth the drive from Watford.
Don't Shut Roadmenders.
roadmender is 1 of the fuw places in northampton where u can go and hang out i have a gf and all we would seem to do when we go out is the cinima roadmender is the only other place keep it alive
Young people need more places to go not less! Please NCC, don't take away funding - think about what the youth who use Roadmender will find to do instead? This is their town too.
i have been going to events at the roadmender for years and i even promoted one of the best club nights in the venue for years when we where running breakup. dont let this venue go to waste the people of northamptonshire and surrounding areas need to keep it gpoing it has soooo many good memories for people. so please keep it open and let me get breakup up and running again , thank you.
if you close down roadmender just as u closed RADLANDS skatepark (R.I.P) there will just be more crime and havoc on the streets on a friday night, remember how much crime there was wen radlands shut down? well seeing as LOADS of ppl know and go to roadmender there will be even more and its just causing more problems KEEP RM OPEN!!!!!
Roadmender is a cool and funky place to go! It's where everyone I know in Northampton and even outside of Northampton go to! Closing down Roadmender would be such a bad decision to make and would just prove that Northamptonshire County Council has not in fact got the best interests of what people really want and need within this town. Save Roadmender!!
Can't stop the funding for Roadmender!! it's a landmark in Northampton and known al over the country. It's where both teenagers go for clubs and adults go to have a laugh. It caters for ALL!
We went to see Marillion at Road mender in 2003.The people working there were really friendly, and the atmoshere was Marilliant.Don't let this fantastic venue go.
Plz save it, kaos is great n its the best fing thats happened to northampton 4 us teens 4 a long tyme.We need something to do 2 keep us off the streets.
if you close road mender there will be people all over the streets rewening sociaty as we know it rm plays a big part in it just no one can see it like all the other places close radlands they are all hanging around the streets now and causing havoc
Roadmender is a great place to go on friday night for fri-up. Me and about 12 other mates go when its on and we all have a great time, cause we get to meet new people, spend time with each other and its the only place where under 18's can go in Northampton unless you look older or have a fake ID to get into the clubs. Without the funding roadmender will not be able to stay open so please let us keep enjoying the place for many years to go!!!.
Whilst the Roadmender is not my style of music, I appreciate what a useful and unique venue this is for the youth of Northampton, and it would be a criminal act to let it die, particularly as so much has recently been spent on its modernisation
