So where to people now go for live entertainment in Northampton?
We can watch binge drinking in the town centre or go to other venues further a field!
Yet another short sighted and very poor political decision for the sake of £48K for both.
venue for people to go an see live music for the lack of £58K funding per annum.
Why are the politicians incapable of listening to the people?
The Roadmender offering entertaiment and opprtunities to many local people young (like me a little less young) as well as bringing money into the town as people visit from the surrounding areas.
We need this venue, it's the only one that caters for bands that have become to big to play at places like the Soundhaus. There isn't another venue of this size and stature for miles and apparantly the council think we should all go there instead! Maybe they could find some money in the budget to transport us all to....Oxford Zodiac (is that the nearest?). Come on it's only about 50 miles away!
It jsut go's to reaffirm that the tories don't care about anyone or listen to the people.Keep fighting and everyone get behind Roadmender now more than ever and we can keep the town's best venue open!!!!!!!!
Not originally from Northampton but have lived here for over 10 years. Roadmender is probably the best live music venue I have ever been to in all my years, SLF back in 2003(?) certainly springs to mind. It would be an absolute travesty for live music in the town if you closed down.
We must keep this fight going. Roadmender's a great venue in a good place.
The Council's issues are a joke.
Parking problems. Do they want people to come to the town? If so, they should do something about it. It won't just benefit Roadmenders, but the economy of the Town as a whole.
Hazards of being near a road (and adults under the influence of drink coming out at c.11pm). Have any of the Council been to Brixton Academy. There are far more people coming out, a much busier road going past, with madder drivers, and no safety railings. There's no suggestion that Brixton Academy be closed down because of this.
Structural problems. I'm no architect or surveyor, but the building looked fairly sound to me. A few improvements here and there wouldn't go amiss I'm sure, but you could say that for almost anywhere. I think this is just an excuse, which has been put together by an architect or surveyor who wants to get somewhere on the Planning Committee.
Funds can be better used elsewhere. ? From the sound of it the biggest waste of money are the Councillors themselves, and their laughable token gestures towards democracy.
Here's to many more years of Roadmender.
Why oh why are councils all over hellbent in suppressing the few decent outlets we have to relax/have fun? Some of us despise the trashy nightclubs: we prefer genuine talent to flourish and an exciting night out. DON'T DO IT.
I just wanna say that vickie hancock or whoever's using her name is a complete c_nt. why sign this if you wanna hav a f_cking moan at us? you dont know anything about so STOP FUCKING STEREOTYPING US and piss off to where u came from BIIITCH
and for the record WE DO FUCKING WASH
The Roadmender is a crucial part of the county's music scene . To Clsoe this would be to deprieve the next generation of the oppertunitys such a place offers. Not only is it a place to see bands that would otherswise not visit the county its also a place to meet like minded people.... Do not Close it , it would be a real loss if it were to go
The roadmender has been an institution for so many years. Kettering Council have amanged to shut all their live music venues down in favour of bland samey venues that are replicated throughout the town - the character has gone. Northampton Council has traditionally had a broader view of music venues and institutions - but this latest proposal to close the roadmended fails to recognise it's value in the community. Shame on you for even thinking of such a thing. Celebrate (and help fund) diversity in the community - keep the Roadmended open.
It would be tragic for this great venue to be closed. I've been in Northampton for 5 years and had some great nights at the roadmender. Let these nights continue and not just let them just become fond memories.
Tory Scumsuckers. It must be your mission in life to drive the joy out of peoples lives. I suppose you'd rather bite an orange and hang yourselves to get your jollies
Music means a huge amount in all of this. If it can somehow speak to THIS, we humanise ourselves a little along the way. fight for independent music. Tiny stubborn lights vs gathering darkness forever ok.
I don't live in Northampton but I have mates that do and I visit them sometimes. I went to the roadmender for a gig years ago and had a great time, don't close it!
Roadmender is one of the only nightclubs where younger people can feel safe and can enjoy an evening!
Its a really coll place to make friends and to hangout with your current mates
So I want Roadmender to stay open!!!!!!!

What kind of local authority presides over a town with a second rate cricket team, a third rate football team and yet is contemplating pulling the rug from beneath the area's one forum for first class entertainment?
Some towns would kill for a venue such as Roadmender. It would be an act of civic suicide to discard this asset so wantonly.
If u close roadmender Young teenagers such as myself are going to have nowhere to go on Friday/Saturday nights apart from in parks and on the streets where drugs and binge drinking are on the increase. GET SUM F****** Good bands on and people might actually start going again. Whoever has done booking for the last year needs the sack. Get sumone in their hu can get Rm back to the Old Days
Too Late Guys
Those stuck up idiots have already withdrawn the funding.
at the least VERY ANNOYED...
By the way the circus was last week..obviously theyve left the clowns to run the county.
The Roadmender is the only venue in Northamptonshire that hosts music from new and up and coming bands. It is the only things that differentiates Northampton from Milton Keynes, Welyn Garden City. PLEASE KEEP THE ROADMENDER OPEN.
dont close down it does so many great things for any age, im a teenager i think it great how there are friups on friday to keep people like me off the sreets i have seend many famous bads here and its so much bettah than going some were like london to see em!
It's a great venue. It makes a unique contribution to the arts scene in Northampton. It provides an outlet for new musicians and young people. It's closure would be Northampton's loss.
the road mender has some thing 4 everyone closing it would be an act of madness i personaly enjoy everything the roadmender does and would be out raged to see it go
Closing the Roadmender would turn Northampton into a replica of those lame Home Counties new towns with no venues and culture at all. Trust me, it's not pretty.
Northamptonshire County Council are responsible for a list of poor services such as our feeble public transport system. Let's hope that they don't make another mistake to add to their ever increasing portfolio. Keep the Roadmender open!!!
I've attended a few gigs at the Roadmender.
Mercury Rev supporting Spiritualized in the mid '90s was probably the favourite.
My key period was about 1990-1995 but there have been many others like me before and since.
Don't close the Roadmender.
This is and has always been the only forward thinking, alternative music and arts/culture venue in northampton. Northampton NEEDS this variety in nightlife and the influences that this venues diversity offers. Without it Nothampton will remain bottom of the league. We need good live music, good arts and entertainment and cultural diversity to develop this tired town into a place visitors, clubers, students and big name bands want to experience. I would have thought the council would recognise how positive this is and consider the real cost of its closure - to police and public services when there is no alternative for young northamptoners but to binge drink on bridge street! Please reconsider and use this opportunity to develop Northampton into a positive more cultural town!!!!
i ave just moved away to uni but the roadmender cant be closed down! it has given me so many happy times and memories. future generations (and myself when im back at summer holidays :P ) need to be kept entertained!
