Considering how much the council writes off each year or wastes on jollies for the councillors.... whats a piffiling amount of £58K for a national venue of this callibre.
The Roadmender is an easy target. Perhaps if the councillors spent less money on themselves for their numerous perks and their over blown beaurocratic system they could continue to provide the things their parishoners want, like a decent music venue, but as ever money goes to money and the devil to his own. Close the Roadmender and stick another grand in your pocket Mr Councillor!!!
Without the Roadmender, i would say that the music scene would have died in Northamptpon. Now look at it and the local talent that is making headway. And you can't beat a bit of Maggie!!
dont close it i went to two of the best gigs of my life their. anyway what are they going to do with the extra money they get make a big abso unit. its places like roadmender that supports new british talent its not fair if it closes!!
how can u close roadmender?!? there is no where else like it near by and northampton will b rubbish without it! its the only place where decent bands come!! ahh!!
wat is the point in closing mender what is the harm in it staying open! people like us need rm its where we go 2 have a larf with our mates weve got so many memories from there nd we all wanna make more so let us! why close it??? it keeps us off the streets nd gives us somwhere 2 socialise, 4 christs sake chaps dont close it!!!

This is a short sighted move which completely disregards Roadmender's value to the community. What are the alternatives and how much would they cost the County Council?
They can't stop funding to the Roadmender. Not only is it one of Northampton few iconic buildings but it is the only decent venue in the area. Without the Roadmender there is little if none entertainment provided for the people of northampton. How disgusting that the council dare stop funding when there is already an apparent lack of arts facilities. Not only will it widen the gap between our town and other surrounding town and cities in the south but the real victims are the youth of northampton who will only have less resources avaliable to them in an already barren town.

Anything that helps local bands get noticed is a staple to a community. Getting rid of it wqill hurt the community, the bands and the fans. Keep Northampton's arts healthy. Keep the activities flowing. Keep the nightlife. Keep Roadmender.
By shutting the Roadmender Northampton will lose the only individual creative element it has, we have turned into a faceless town full of chain shops and theme pubs nothing exciting or fresh can survive in this vacuum
The Roadmender sparks off love affairs, with bands, with people, WITH A PLACE.
Whats your problem with it anyway?
PS. If it closes I'll end up in a shop for work experience! Don't do that to me!
Close the Roadmender and further the risk of Northampton becoming a cultural backwater with people heading for London and Birmingham for entertainment.
the roadmender is one of the only beacons of light for live music in the whole of northamptonshire. there is little to do for the youth of this county, so why jeopardise their happiness and enjoyment. being in a fairly succesful local band myself, the northampton/northamptonsh ire music scene is the strongest at the moment that it has ever been so why take away this 'centre of excellence'. what, as a resident of northamptonshire, have i got to be proud about, two things; motorsport and live music.
Norhampton has just started to be recognised by bigger bands as a good place to play with good venues. At last we have started to see good music come through, that's why the roadmender cant go. Northampton live music needs it!
carry on fighting for this venue.it has been running longer than most venues in this area, and has events to suit all tastes.and is one of the only venues like this to cater for the disabled. shame the council are negative.they have wasted thousands of pounds on yot (young offenders team). with young offenders not turning up for community service, yet are stopping funding for roadmender who are giving youngsters a place to go where the parents feel a safe place.the council are full of people who should be in retirement.viva la revolution.
Its absolutely disgraceful that Roadmender should not be funded to continue its invaluable work. Councillors should be ashamed of themselves for even considering such an appalling thing.
Its so sad! people just dont get how hard you (and me a while ago) are working to keep roadmender alive!
Northampton will be a poorer place without it. xxx
Where else in this region can you see the likes of Spiritulised, Maginc Numbers, Wedding Present, Courney Pine, etc, ect. The Roadmender is the only venue in this region that hosts decent music. I have been going there for years and it is part of the music heritage bringing a diverse range of culture experiences to young and old. Independent venues such as the Roadmenders keep real music alive. Keep fighting to save the Roadmender.
This was the first place I EVER saw a live gig and I used to go all the time watching local bands aswell as popular bands. This was an integral part of my youth and should be that of others!
It is very sad as Roadmender provided a much-needed venue for the county and beyond. I wonder where the £58,000 saved will go to - probably on repairing potholes or some feckless consultants.
The council sed dat they stoped da funding cuz they dnt wnt the younger generations taking part in the wrong cultural activities thats a bit hypocritical wen we r supposed 2 live in a multi-cultural society. I havent walked away from a gig at road mender disappointed n i hope 2 go 2 more in years 2 come. KEEP IT OPEN!
you can't close roadie, its great! only good place to go on a friday night.it's great to meet new people and to have a good night out.please don't close...xxx
how on earth could you close rm??? its a great place to meet new people! it keeps kids of the streets and causing more trouble, its the only half decent youth place in northampton!!!!!
wel at the end of the day the goverement and the police are moaning about kids on the streets at night and al this so why close down one of the things that keep kids off the streets! loads of people go to kaos! and proper enjoy it and kaos is the onli under18s club that people enjoy so whats the point in closing r.m for?? all im sayin and al des over people on here is keep it open because people want it open and they want things to do enit!
I have so many good memories of gigs at the Roadmender (old and recent). Northampton needs a mid-sized venue for bands, (that incorporates small rooms for up and coming bands too). Keep music live at the Roadmender!!!

This is so wrong, the roadmender provides us with the best in the up and coming bands as well as the new-comers. Iv been gigging here for years, seen some of my best gigs there from Pitchshifter years back to The Rakes recently, it has to stayalive to keep local music alive. We need this place, keep local music alive. Save the Roadmender.
I cant believe it what do they think they are doing! When they start moaning about to many kids on the street or to much crime, think about it roadmender was suppliying a place for kids to go and some of the best bands around have been there. And joe willey shudda come to Roadmender istead of ****ing picture drome... please she knew it was gunna be shut down!!
I live in Luton & I've been to the Roadmender several times recently, it's a brilliant venue, just the right size in my opinion, not too big but big enough to attract great acts. Save it please!!
what about having a fetish night weekly if you able to stay open and give 30 plus age group a change for a change. Get to see band in street playing and just loved watching the faces of the clr,s red faces.
Roadmenders is an excellent venue for small and medium-sized bands. After the bar area renovations, it provides a perfect area for socializing before and after the bands. Please try to keep it open
It must be twenty years ago that I first saw a band at the Roadmenders, like most towns Northampton is swimming in pubs and clubs, virtually none show any live music and none are able to put on the bands that the Roadmenders has over the years. This is a bad decision and seems to have little regard for the electorate (both current and upcoming), the council's problems with the venue are ridiculous (unless of course they are going to seek the closure of all places that serve alcohol and are within a hundred feet of a main road ie virtually all pubs and clubs), as for repairs etc. just hw are repairs to be carried out when the building has just lost out on so much money, it hardly makes them more likely does it. As one signatory said, if the Roadmenders has to close then perhaps now everyone can go and watch those ruining the town-centre with their yobbish behaviour, or better still could join them rather than support an excellent local venue.
I live away from N'pton and have been jealous of some of the music the Roadmender has attracted. It was a great venue when i was a young-un and should remain so.
