Young bands need venues like this in the midlands. Without it, kids never make it out of the bedroom with their guitars... it is invaluable. Don't kill live music.
i know so many bands that are amazing and need small venues to start at.. roadmender had the ability to make these bands as big as they can be... and the kids in the nthpton area have the musical taste for it to be a great start... why block dreams... and spoil fun... as well kick kids out onto the streets at night instead of a safer venue??? answer me that one?!
I cant believe they wanna shut this place down - its criminal. As part of the student union at N'Hampton College, we're looking to do something about it, hopefully they'll listen if enough of us protest.
I only discovered roadmenders for the first time a few months ago and had a fantastic night! It would be really sad to think this great place to see new bands is pulled. Long Live Roadmender!
I love the roadmender, it forms a big part of my student life. Have seen some great band play there and it woud be a shame if it were no more - keep it open!!
I first went to roadmenders about 20 years ago,I last went last month.I now live in wiltshire.
Roadmenders serves people from a wider area than northants & it is important that this place should should remain open.
Roadmender is the only place where young kids can go and hang out and have a laugh on friday nights every now and again. It is a great facility and deserves more than its getting.
If this helps the Roadmender to stay open, i belive more should be done to support local acts other than just the fri-up's.Maybe when a big band comes to town, get a local support band like the Soundhaus does?
I work for the County Council and am sickened by the fact that the funding has been pulled. Surely this is against its policy of "more people taking part in more cultural activities"
It's one of the best music venue around. We travel from Milton Keynes regularly. Please don't close it. You just need to sort out your publicity for events.
It would be a disgrace if yet another decent local music venue was forced to close its doors. Where would the new young bands and musicians play if the venues no longer existed. The local music scene would be starved.
The Roadmender is a Wkd venue with a wkd objective of getting kids involved in music. surley the UK needs more supported venues rat5her than less. its appaling that northhampton council are thinking of withdrawing funding. shame on them. wont somebody think of the children.???
Even though i haven't been to the roadmender very often, when i have i have thoroughly enjoyed the evrning. i am aware of the history of the place and will be gutted for our town to loose a top venue.
I was so dissapointed by comments made to the media by councillors purporing to represent the views of the local population .Rosemary ?? said there are plenty of nightclubs and pubs locally for young people ????Thats the main problem with Northampton town centre !!!! - where are the alternatives - parents want other experiences for their children not the nightclub binge drinking scene .
Closing the Roadmender would be a travesty. Having worked there and managed to source the funds to undertake the refurbishments to make it the venue it is today it would be an extremely damaging loss to the arts and cultural face of Northampton. Reconsider.
What a waste- Please think carefully before going ahead with this one. It's been a haven for lots of people for lots of years. Will the council be providing us somewhere else with this 58k or spending it on a Xmas bash?
What do they expect us to do now? Taking away a venue like this will rob both the art and music scenes in Northampton. This town is quickly becoming rotten to the core and the only ambitions young people will now have is to get out of this town as quickly as possible, and i for one will be joining them. SHAME ON YOU!
All your doing my closing the roadmender is leaving more and more kids on the streets "binge drinking" and other things you moan about on weekends. You want to keep kids off the streets then stop taking away the things we can do.
Think of what profile the Roadmender gices Northampton. It continues to draw people, young and old from everywhere into the Town, who otherwise would never venture here, which in the long term is good for our local economy. + with our recently awarded Uni status @ UCN, this also provides an added attraction to the town for students, under grads and tutors. NCC THINK CAREFULLY, CAUSE ONCE ITS GONE, ITS GONE...

This is a great venue, I have seen countlees quality bands and acts here not to mention the club nights. It would be a massive blow to the town to see it close.
Do the place up then close it down? Typical Council stupidity.

I can't believe OUR government has robbed US our only decent place to to art. This is murder to the art scene and music lovers in Northampton. Wake up people its time to act!!!
