the roadmender is actually the only safe place for under 18s to really go! they provide a good enviroment and it is a really important factor to northampton
this is where alot of semi-famous bands and the younger generations of this county get to play onstage and have a chance at stardom!
dont take this away because you'll end up with more problems if you do... think of where the hundreds of under 18yr olds are going to be on a friday night now!
and also what about every other citizen that enjoys the roadmender like play-goes, music schools and dance nights!
thinks twice
For ten years my family have enjoyed the roadmender. It is a brilliant venue for everyone especially young people who are not old enough to go to the clubs in town. So many amazing people have played, put on performances and exhabitions there. Please PLEASE fund the roadmender... it's so good for Northampton!
Closing the roadmender would prove how backwards this council in Northampton is, turns down ikea, not allowing the footy club to expand and now this!
Northampton needs a good venue to attract bands and other shows!
This will also allow near up and coming talent to try and be an influence on the scene.
The Roadmender is a fantastic venue for music but also theatre, it would be great if some touring theatre companies came there, i saw Frantic Assemblya while back and it was one of the best shows i've seen. the roadmender is a rare place and brilliantly dynamic,Northampton NEEDS to keep places like this, it is what keeps it a culturally interesting and diverse place. this place gives an awful lot so please...anyone give funding so it can grow better and better and reach its goals.
all the yrs the roadmember has be around you would think that it has not yet became a landmark to northampton to us the people who go there and for people who don't i know it would be a loss if roadmember was closed
I cannot believe that the council wish to withdraw funding for this venue. So many brilliant bands have played here in the last few years; the Levellers ,Kaiser Chiefs, the Ordinary Boys,Stiff Little Fingers,The Undertones,New Model Army.I could go on and on.What does a venue have to do to warrant funding? Somebody needs a good kick up the backside.
When I lived in Northampton 97-01 it was the only serious music venue, please don't destroy one of the cultural centres of the town. Have the common sense to find some other financial backing.
Working in the music industry, whatever your role, is hard enough, without the added obstructions thrown in by local authorities and Government bodies. If the intentions of all is to make Northampton a better place, don't let Roadmender close.
The Roadmender cannot close! The people of Northamptonshire have lost alot over the last few years but the roadmender will not join the list. Do what it takes councillors - it must be saved.
Apparently Northampton is now a UNI town, further to UCN's upgrade...
I can't imagine future students being too enthusiastic about coming to this town with such a dwindling image of provision for arts and entertainment.
As a fan of live music, I have often travelled to neighbouring counties to see bands play. Surely with the right promotion and advertising, Roadmender should attract touring bands....? And if not, why not..? It is crazy that in a town of this size, fans of live music are forced to travel to Notts, Wolves, or Cambs just to catch a good show.
You must save the Roadmender, We need this venue for new bands and other Arts. How about we don't put up some speed cameras and give the money to support the Roadmender, I think we could live without a few more cameras.
you can't close down roadmender!!!! you already closed down radlands, people always complain about youths and they need places to go and closing down roadmender and radlands give them less places to soicalise and meet up with friends!!!!
viva la seb
The Roadmender is a great facility for the town, giving the arts a focus in a contemporary multi media venue, it would be insanity to close such a great asset to the region.
Don't let this venue close!!!!!!!!
Do the council not want new artists to put northampton on the map for being one of the fore runners of new music and talent?
The Roadmender has been a vital part of this community for many years and to withdraw funding from it is appalling. It is no wonder that Northamptom Borough Council came last in a recent list of best serving councils. They overspend on their budget and then rather than trying to work out why they overspend they withdraw funding from every event they possibly can. This is not the way forward. Without places like the Roadmender, they will find they have bigger problems in the long term!
Northampton needs more places for the young not less, and withdrawing funding is at the least short-sighted and potentially counter-productive.
Keep it open & give the new people a fair crack of the whip & a decent chance to make the most of the excellent facilities the venue provides.
By closing venues such as The Roadmender, you take away an invaluable local resource, without which the negative consequences which follow are fairly obvious.
Still the savings can always be put into police funding:(
Young people need somewhere to go to enjoy local music -closing it will cause more problems than keeping it open would. There's just not enough for young people in Northampton as it is!
where are all the young people going to go when they have no-where to go?
out on the streets causing trouble.
how could they do this? it is a good way for young people to socialise!
without it... what are they going to do?
I performed at the roadmender a few years ago, after it had its revamp. How it can be treated by its council in such as way is beyond me. keep it open. It is a brilliant venue.
I regularly travel from Stamford to Gigs at the Roadmenders and have done for years it would be a shame to see a venue like this close. It has provided many bands with afoot on the ladder of sucess.
I used to go to the roadmender every week when i was younger, it was a safe and fun enviroment. I still go there now for gigs. I think the roadmender is a great place for young people to be on their friday nights, i believe the councils choice is only going to increase youth crime as these people will have no where else to go.
i think the decision to close the Roadmender is ridiculous. It is about the only place in Northamptonshire that still provides decent entertainment - bands, comedians.
