Northampton has very little to offer our young people. We need the Roadmender and if the County council need to subsidise it so that it continues so be it. We all pay our council tax so it is not a lot to ask in return.
PLEASE KEEP THE ROADMENDER OPEN. PEOPLE ARE ALWAYS COMPLAINING ABOUT TEENAGERS BEING TROUBLE - WELL IF YOU TAKE THIS PLACE AWAY FROM THEM WHAT DO YOU EXPECT WHEN THEY WILL HAVE NO WHERE ELSE TO GO?
plz keep kaos uva wise well b brd n wnt av nwt 2 do but if u wna shut it dwn fnd us sumwer alse or let us on da streets n get para out r faces!!!!!! Jus fnk we wnt a gd child lyf nt sum **** 1 dat gt fukd up by u council lot
Where else we go to see decent bands locally? A ticket to London costs about £30, which is crazy. Roadmender's a good venue; Hard-Fi show was ace. This place deserves to get funding, it represts the kind of culture that matters to young people today.
There is not much around the Northampton area and people constantly moan about young people 'hanging around street corners'. The roadmender is a safe place for people to go and appreciate music. This is not available in other places and now that the Roadmender is doing well the funding has stopped. It seems silly to me that the coucil wait until big bands are targeting the Roadmender that they stop the funding and may make it close. For once please think about keeping something open for a large majority of people in the Northamptonshire area and leave things like putting a new swing in a park or putting a sand pit in the middle of the market for a day.
keep rm open!!!where else hav us teens got to go?do u want us to sneak into clubs and bars underage????doesnt that just encourage underage drinking?rm is one of the places we can go hav fun and feel safe....y take this away!!!we dont hav any thing else in northampton KEEP IT OPEN!!!!
where will we go if road mender close were eles is there in northampton to see live music. such great bands start out playing in the road mender like blur i just hope many more can start from there as well
Road mender is gr8 they cant close it there is nowhere else for us to go. the council are being stupid by closing it they are just causing trouble cause now we have nowhere to go and we will be on the streets more.
the town needs this venue as a place for young people to meet an intigrate, the council should support this establishment not force it to close, funding the roadmender would benifit large numbers of young people in the town.
How can it be justified? Shutting down roadmender is criminal, for reasons we all know and reasons im sure the people that are shutting it down know, too.
i think if the roadmender was to shut down there would be nothing really much else to do and it would most likely encourage vandalism and violence. Council, do you really want that?
I first went to the Roadmender in 1993, and I have seen so many fantastic gigs there over the years- Radiohead, Elastica and Catatonia to name a few. I will remember these gigs from my teenage years forever, they were so exciting and amazing. Northamptonshire Council are cruel to remove such a vibrant venue from the youth of the town today.
This is a venue that should be encouraged to grow in the cultural desert that is Northampton, not allowed to disappear because of some bean-counting jobsworth.
Yet another retrograde move by our County Council, short sighted and once again failing to look at the bigger picture. This is an excellent venue that provides an irreplaceable service to the Counties community. Having been to a number of events recently I cannot see the wisdom to pull out support.. Sadly the decision making processes that exist at County Hall mystifies me… After all what are we looking at here a couple of the consultation fees or one tinny piece of middle management strata. Perhaps the County Council should look “inside the box” a little more.
Northampton needs a venue to host live music and cutting edge comedy ... surely we can stretch to a little bit of funding to keep these excellent facility operational.
Im from a unsinged band from gloucester and we played there late 2004 and we had an awsome time, helped us get our name out, loadsa kids coming just to watch live music. I fell that its one of the best venues we have played and shouldnt be shut down. cheers
how is it being closed down when there is finally some good bands proper bands comin in!!? and thats not meanin the stuff played is rubbish i mean famous bands, with record deals etc!!!
i think roadmenders should stay open, i dont live in the area but i know how it feels to lose a live venue and i have to say i dont have much to do on saturdays anymore. keep it!!!
Roadmender cant close, its the only decent place for students who dont want to dress as 'pimps and hos' on a night out. Keep the live music going! We need Roadmender!
save roadmender!!! i think everyone in the northamptonshire area has great memorys at roadmender.. its a great place for teens who dont get a chance to travel around the country to see their favourite bands its a great place whih has held some amazing gigs!
i think that withdrawning the funds for the roadmender will damage northampton's culture status as it is maturing into a small city but it will harm the northampton univesity arts as the roadmender is one of there valued place for creativity.
This is one of the most important venues that is involved in the music business it has helped small bands make a name for themselves. It has been an important place for people to go and meet up with friends it is more than some venue it is a whole community inside those four fantastic walls.
This is exactly the sort of venue Northampton HAS to keep! A town is more than merely the collection of people who live and work there, it's a culture, and the council have made a lot of really poor decisions this year with regard to the town's cultural life! If they mess this one up, what's left?
This is just the kind of venue that is getting chased out of town by big soul-less arenas and Carling Academies.
Closing it would be a victory for big money corporations, and a loss for the average music fan.
noooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooooooooooooooo
don't close it fools it rocks, but i hate it when goths and greebs go there all the time!
i deffinately think that it is wrong to withdraw the funding as Roadmender accomadates people af all ages. i am 15 and people complain of youths hanging around but this is only because they close good places to go! now we have nowhere to go for a night out!
roadmender is one of the most important venues in the area attracting people from as far as luton st albans coventry etc to shut it down would b incredibly damaging and very very short sighted u say u want kids off the streets then close down one of the few places they can go can someone explain that to me????
At a time when any alternative music scene is as rare as hens teeth to find, the closure of this venue would mean the death of any alternative to the crass commerciality that is fully catered for everwhere else!!
Northants County Council ....what a joke. Borough Council what a joke.......First it was the streetfair....now the roadmender....bet its the balloon fest that goes next. Hang your heads in shame
SAVE THE ROADMENDER
Its been a platform for so many great great bands and home to some fantastic local talent. Don't let that go to shizzle! PLEEEEASE. There are no chavs there, it is a sacred place.
I've travelled over from Bedford on more occasions than I would care to remember in the last ten years or more. This venue is important to a wider area and not just Northampton, because like one of the other petitioners has said there's nowhere quite like it for miles around.
This venue has brought me into Northampton from Leicester on many occasions. It is a quality venue appealing to a wide range of tastes. To shut it down would be a criminal loss for your town and the Midlands
Don't follow the route that my home town Leicester (culture free zone)has. I have been forced travel to Northampton and other midlands venues to see bands, and can safely say that The Roadmenders is the best.
Enough has already been said - we need action now, not words. Everyone who says they want to keep it needs to use it - and tell their friends about it, and not give up on it.
Keep on keepin' on, people.
The Roadmender has been an important facility for arts and music in Northampton for many years. It's played such an important role that it would be a real shame to see it close for the loss of what, in Council terms, is not a lot of money. Northampton is already short of places for young people to experience the arts. Do not allow this treasure to close.
Could the land owners and the Council please come clean about what the real plans are for the land. You worry about the youth of the country becoming disaffected with politics, is it any wonder why. Shame on all of you.
Roadmender can never close! A place thats housed some amazing bands e.g Blur, will cut-down a thriving music scene thats happening in Northampton. Just a shame the fat cats in the council can't see it our way. Maybe they should leave their office and see how much the roadmender gives to the community.
One of the few things left in the town of any diversity and character. Close it and it's one step further on Northampton's slide to becoming Anytown Blandsville.
I've seen many great bands at the Roadmender over the years I've been going there. Some local, some not so local. It's a great venue, and I'll always remember the good times I've had there. It would not be wise to shut such a great place down.
