Diversity cannot be maintained without a well established local venue for music fans. As more and more places get taken over and homogenised or even closed down altogether, we lose all sense of that diversity and every town will be identical to every other town in the country. This must not be allowed to happen for the sake of corporate greed. Support the Roadmender and support diversity in all its forms.
essential! without this, Northampton has no real popular/youth culture. this place was my salvation throughout the 80's. without a doubt the council has an obligation to provide the town this- it makes Northampton survivable...

Roadmender is a great venue - not just for Northampton but for the country. I assume that because the young people who go there don't vote the council think it is ok to dump it. Has anyone asked the council where they expect all the people they are depriving of a place to meet will go? Secondly all young people of Northampton, kick out the council. They are voted in by a very small amount of your public. You can vote them all out. You have to be on the electoral role but that is your given right (as long as you are 18 or over) so get everyone you know to register and vote. If you did it would be a very very long time before any Northampton councillor ignored the views of the young. You can even form your own political party and vote in your mates.
Disgrace, as a now mid -thirtys 'respectable'I am annoy and puzzled by the decision. I spent five happy years working and attending the venue when it was obvious the impact and importance on the culture and community of the Town.Where now? all down the road to the junction and stuff those without transport
I support this petition. There is need for a decent live music venue in Northampton both for the sake of the town and the people it supports, and the sake of those struggling original bands trying to reach a wider audience.
I support this petition. Friends of mine have joined me for gigs at the RM for years bringing visitors to the town and huge pleasure. Funding must stay in place.
I support this petition. The Roadmender has been and hopefully we again be an excellent venue supporting music and arts on a local and national scale. I have spent several years - the last 20 or so -going to shows and I find it typically sad and short-sighted of our local politics to not fund what is a very key venue for all local people - especially young people. find it hard to swallow when you receive leaflets telling you how great the derngate is going to be and all its trimmings - supporting 'proper' arts and keeping us all in what Roy Keane would call the Prawn Sandwich Club. A sad sad thing but even more sadly a sign of the times.
I support this petition. The Roadmender is an important venue, an asset to have in Northamptonshire, it would be a sad day for aspiring performers in the county if it closes.
I support this petition. the roadmender is an excellent venue where i, and im sure thousands upon thousands of people have had some of the best times of their lives. keep it open.
I support this petition because the Roadmender made a terrific effort to reach out to young people in the county. It was also the only entertainment venue in the town to make an effort to provide something for everyone in the community.
I support this petition. Roadmender has been the arts hub of Northampton for as long as I can remember, and to lose it is a real tragedy for the town. IF NCC can't see that spending money on Roadmender is investing in Northampton's cultural heritage, then they are even more shortsighted than I hitherto suspected. Sort it out NCC!!
I support this petition. I have only attended the RM once but I know loads of people who love it so (especially youngsters) and it is a wonderful place. I live in Derbyshire now but my family all live in Northamptonshire and this makes me sick! NCC get your act together!!!
Although being from that fabled bastion of culture; S****horpe I would state that the closure of any of this nations venues for half decent music is a bad idea. Why not close a few of those wine bars instead, eh?
I went to the Roadmender for the first time several weeks ago, to see Stuart Lee. Apart from the delightful performance, the venue was grand - a vibrant, well looked-after and pleasant place to go to see a variety of performances, not to mention how crucial it is to keep small indie arts venues alive. So much money is being spent all over the UK arts world on new initiatives and developments - close this existing successful resource and you'll be taking ten steps in the wrong direction.
Its a disgrace. If the roadmender closes it will severely hinder the progress of Northampton's local bands and is one less place for bands outside of Northampton to get aquainted with the city
This absolutely sucks balls.
I work in Northamptn and I know from some of people who worked for me that the Roadmender is an institution in Northamptonshire.
Just get a grip and sort this out, we need ROADMENDER!
I support this petition.
Keep live music alive. Its an important of many young peoples lives and helps bring a sense of community to many places. You want to crack down on Anti-Social behaviour? Well giving the kids something to do and see like Live Music is a start.
Keep this place alive, your community will suffer from its loss.
This is why young people are anti social . The councils of this country keep taking away eveything that they live for.
Where does the money go?? I wonder.
I support this petition. music helps keep young people off the streets causing trouble, if this is closed down, something alse will be taken away from them!
There are hardly any music venues in Northamptonshire, and for the Roadmender to host so many decent and talented bands is a waste. The Soundhaus is good, but the Roadmender is like legendary.
This is a disaster. The Roadmender is such a great venue - giving bands wonderful opportunities and, more importantly, it's the only place in the county where you can see decent bands. Without it, we'll all have to decamp to Cambridgeshire.
This is another example of the problem of having a county council run by Cllr's from the rural areas of the county, unaffected by the loss of the Roadmender.Redistributing the money to the rest of rural areas and away from the town. This is the death knell of youth entertainment sacrificed on the altar of greed.
Live music venues are more important than you may realise, they provide a social gathering place for young people, keeping them off the streets and promoting a sense of community.
i've never been to this venue but its disgraceful that it is shutting down. live music relies on places to play. without them, live music will just fall.
music keeps people going, don't let this place get shut down.
im not from northamptonshire nor have i ever gone to the roadmender(but of course ive heard of it)so this is not just a plee from the people who live there it affects a number of areas
there is not enough places for local/non local bands to play in this area and to close down the roadmender just ****s evan more
u dont realise what effect this will have on the local music scene
i recomend that you atleast go an see what these bands have to offer before you close down a popular venue like this.
its history repeating itself, all because you dont go to these places you think that it does not matter
it will effect a whole number of people within the music scene and out.
As well as a great venue, it also does alot of good for the 14-18yrs kids in the community. First Radlands skatepark was closed, now another community venue has been lost to Northampton. What has the council got against Northampton's youth?Won't the council ever learn?! I smell a property rat somewhere!
WHAT THE FUCK...YOU CLOSED IT YOU BASTARDS...FUCK YOU GOVERNMENT! WERE GOING TO RUN AMOCK OF NORTHAMPTON AND SEE HOW YOU LIKE BEING TREATED LIKE SHIT AN KNOWING UR OPINION DOESNT COUNT
Ok i'm not from Northampton or ever been to the venue but being in a band myself i was upset that the council is withdrawing local venues up and down the country! Why will no one support new music?
the decision to stop fiunding for the Roadmender is outrageous. Bands need venues to play at, whether big established bands or up and coming bands. People always go on about the music scene in the uk during the swinging 60's and 70's and I envy the people who lived during this period, and dream of one day the uk music scene being like that once again. But if venues are closed down there is nowhere for bands to play, for people to go watch and be inspired to form bands themselves, or pick up instruments and do something worthwhile with there time instead of hanging about street corners. Music can be one of the biggest inspiration to someones life (I know it is to me) and by closing down this venue, you are taking away the chance for a generation to see bands play locally, or to have the dream to form and a band and play there hometown. In a world where there's so much to be worried about these days, music (and in particular live music) can be a great release and a great way to forget all the problems of life for a few hours. Please think twice about pulling funding!
This is an outrage. I'll have to stop paying my council tax! This was one of the things I was happy for the council to spend money on. Where better than to go and see music at the Roadmender. Whether it be established acts or new bands looking to make a name for themselves. It's a part of Northampton's culture too and I don't see why the council have pulled the plug. Still I'm sure they'll find ways to pointlessly waste the money in other non value adding activities! It's a complete and utter discrace! Idiots.
i am not from northampton but from a ****ty little town called glenrothes in fife. as i already know what it is like living in a town with no music venues, i can sympathise with music fans in northampton. this is a disgrace. i would bet my life that if the venue hosted the over 75s weekly knitting club this wouldnt have happened. it seems we are living in an age where the opinion of young people does not matter. its pre 1960s britain all over again. FUCK THE GOVERNMENT!!!
A great loss to the community...how short sighted and downright mean can you get...and they complain about youngsters causing trouble in the town!! A recently 50 yr old disgusted (not disgusting!!)rocker....
One of the County Councils objectives is to provide people the opportunity to take part in arts, culture and music. The recent decision by the Council appears totally at odds with this aim. Please reconsider this decision. If not, at least be more honest in the setting of your objectives. May I suggest 'Allow people the opportunity to stand on street corners and limit any chance of them enjoying cultural activities'.
Youve closed roadmender you ****ing idiots, this is forcing us on to the streets on fris and week ends, im personally with an army of at least 219 people behind me we will be terrosing and vanadlising till its reopen you have been warnded.....
plz keep kaos uva wise well b brd n wnt av nwt 2 do but if u wna shut it dwn fnd us sumwer alse or let us on da streets n get para out r faces!!!!!! Jus fnk we wnt a gd child lyf nt sum **** 1 dat gt fukd up by u council lot u bre dry if u dnt keep it open.
