The Roadmender serves a vital function for touring bands and local bands and artist in Northampton. However, it has not been putting on many new up and coming bands or supporting local talent in the way it did say 3-5 years ago. I think its time the Roadmender started booking acts of the calibre it used to and supported local bands more.
Also the Roadmender and Soundhaus having the same promotors is hardly healthy competition is it.
If you get the funding use it to build the Roadmender back into a regular venue on the gig circuit like it used to be
don't you dare stop funding roadmender, its one of d few things there is to do plus it keeps people out of trouble! u should be doing the complete opposite and give them more money so they can make the venue better to atract better bands so they can make big money!
dont close roadmender!!!!!!
its soooo kl n fun 2 b der
its got gr8 music n evri1 seems 2 ave a laf
closin it wil just make more kids b out on da street causin truble init
its da onli gd place 4 us kids 2 go
so DNT CLOSE ROADMENDER!!!!!
Northampton really needs a venue like Roadmender to provide an alternative to the formula nightlife scene. It has long been a supporter of emerging bands and artists, and provides access to the arts for the whole community. We should be celebrating the Roadmender not closing it down!!
Having spent many a great night at the Roadmender over the last 10 years, and it being one of the very few Rock and Arts placing in Northampton for people to go and enjoy... Its got to stay open cause it fills a very large hole in the Northamptonshire live music scene. DONT CLOSE IT!
The Roadmender went through a recent slump, but it is definitly on the up! Where else has such a diverse mix of music and arts in Northampton - this place should not close!
The Roadmender is central to the continuation of music and arts appreciation of the people of Northampton. It should receive MORE funding to develop to its fullest potential.
What we'll do is wait until we get a university and then close down the venue that provides students with music and clubs. Duh! That sounds sustainable!
A great venue that provides un-sanitised art and music for all ages. Perhaps not middle class enough for the councillors who will have little understanding of how important this place is. Soooo imprtant that Northampton doesn't lose this place.
Roadmender is, and always will be one of the few places where people of all ages will have something to do in the evening. Rock music is one of the most significant parts of British culture, and makes up half of my own free time. It's disappointing that the County Council is no longer willing to see the Mender as something worth spending money on, especially when it is trying trying to get kids 'off the streets'. If the they go ahead with it, i guess it's back to the bus shelter on a friday nite...
DO. NOT. DO. IT. people from this area love going here to see live music-do not complain about kids roaming the streets and then do something like this!!!
Both before and after refurbishment the Roadmender has served as an iconic live music venue for the area. Much more than just a place to see a band- the venue occupies a unique position in the city's (and county's) cultural make-up.
The loss of this venue would constitute a vote of no confidence in the popular cultural capital of Northamptonshire, and a loss of profile for the County Council. I strongly object to the proposal to withdraw support.
The Roadmender is where my love of music first started. It plays an important role in the local music scene as well as the national one. Don't close it
It's thanks to the Roadmender that Northampton plays host to many musical talents that would otherwise pass the county by, as there is no equivalant sized venue that I know of with the Roadmender's facilities anywhere near Northampton.
Please don't withdraw it's funding!
This unique venue really has SO much to offer to the local AND national culture. Its reputation is extremely high throughout the country, ensuring that the best, most innovative and exciting artist are virtually guaranteed to pass through Northampton, broadening peoples minds and experiences, inspiring creativity amongst the young and strengthening Northamptons reputation for producing and nurturing great talent. Save the roadmender!
While they keep sticking up our council tax by large percentages well above inflation, surely they can keep funding the Roadmender. The place has got to stay.
I have seen so many bands and other stuff at the roadmender over the years, it has been part of me as i grew up and to lose it would be disappointing to say the least. The Roadmender is probably the most recognised of the best place for bands touring to come to in the town and it needs to stay open. Northampton needs more places where live music especially can take place so to take one away doesnt make sense !!
Roadmender runs safe gigs for my friends 14 year old daughter from Corby to attend and have a fun safe night out. Use our council tax wisely, keep it open!
I don’t believe that anyone could think closing a venue like the Roadmender was going to be a good move, seems totally un-progressive. A much needed gem in a relatively uncreative town.
With the quality of bands Northampton has at present we could be on the verge having a nationally recognised 'scene'. But for the scene to work we need Roadmender. The Council need to think long term about the revenue that having the country's press, A&R men and music lovers coming to the town. This is the worst thing that could happen.
Roadmender is one of the only venues left in Northampton that you can go to and not be in fear of being beaten up. Quality, original and idenpendant music, I have spent some of the best nights of my life at the Roadmender, if it goes, Northampton will have lost one of its most important assets.
Noooo. Dont let them do it. I live in leicester and we have nothing like the roadmender!! We'd have to travel all the way to Birmingham or Nottingham! Do you know how much petrol that is!?!?
An Important Principle in these blinkered times of Bliar: The Roadmender provides a PUBLIC SERVICE; therefore it DOES NOT HAVE TO TURN A PROFIT. We've already paid for it through taxation. See all the young kids' comments about 'a safe place to go and let off steam' for the intangible benefits. One of the only locations Northampton has ever had which is violence and sleaze-free.
Northampton needs the Roadmender to carry on increasing the popularity of out town for bands on tour! We have a thriving music scene it would be shambolic to loose such a great and important venue!
