had some great nights out here in the Indie (britpop) era. saw loads of bands. Shame to see it go. Where do you go now in N'pton to see alternative music?
We must keep the venue open, as it a place where music from the past, present and future can be heard by the young and old alike. Long live the Roadmender!!!!
It would be a crime to close the roadmender. I have seen MANY bands here and the atmosphere is always awesome. The Roadmender is what northampton should be remembered for.
having moved here 27yrs ago. nptn has always been a growing town with village idiots running it. think about the long term future of the town and when we become a city and not the short term bottom line figure. remember its for the people not the £........
Keep Roadmender and make it more accessible to other likes of performance such as dance and comedy. We need this venue to support the smaller scale performances and up and coming artists be it in music, art or performance. The local uni now has full status & students will want this venue to be inspired & supported with all the new courses such as music and dance!!!! It will be a total waste or artistic talent that could be shown here from the local communities. We need to brighten up Northampton with more talent not squash it!!!
where else are big basnds gonna play!!!maybe its just a statistic on your sheet of to-dos for this year, but to others its a good place,SAVE THE ROADMENDER!!
The roadmender is a fantasitc venue because it is intimate yet not tiny and it's local to a huge base of live music fans who can't get to London regularly! All small bands who are just on the verge of making it will play and you need to keep small venues open for them to progress and be heard!
Northampton really doesn't have enough places for live music to be played. It's so important to embrace different music cultures within a town as big as Northampton, in order to provide for those who love a variety of music genres. The closure of such an influential venue would only make musicians move on, creating a negative view of potentially a great staring ground for many-up and-coming artists. By keeping the Roadmender, Northampton becomes a focal point for good live music and entertainment.
I can't believe the council are going to let the Roadmender shut down at a time when the whole town centre is falling into decline, surely they should be doing their best to kepp such a prestigious venue open. Many great groups have played there in their early years. They also work well with local kids keeping them off the streets and away from anti social behaviour which is plaguing the town!!!!
Roadmender is a great asset to ur town, and is the envy of people who live in many larger places. The Copuncil should take pride in this great venue and it's inclusive and diverse programming. LOVE IT - DONT LOSE IT
I have lived in many towns across the UK and watched the demise of similar venues a number of times. Where exactly are young people supposed to go and what should they do if we keep removing their recreation? A move like this will only encourage them to seek other forms of entertainment, many of which could prove far less wholesome and much more deadly.
It will be a devastating loss to the county if the Roadmender is closed. The Council are fools. The venue is enriched with history and has so much potential for the future. Give it a second chance and realise how important it is to everyone in Northampton, Suits! If the funding does go, is there anyway in which Carling or Carlsberg could fund the venue? Please look into it! x
There is just nowhere else in the town capable of providing for such a wide range of people, with such a high standard of product!Where else could the councils money go where it benifits so many people????there isnt a place!...DOUBLE/TRIPLE/QU ADROUPLE THE FUNDING DONT TAKE IT AWAY. What will be left in the town soon........not alot!
Music and gigs are as important to me as breathing; there are precious few places for larger bands to play in this town. The Roadmender has had a vital place in our music scene for many years and with nationwide recognition is able to attract bands and performers of a calibre that no other venue can match, just look at the last few months if you need examples. And its not just music; comedy, club nights... Perhaps there is room for improvement and as with any venue of this kind there needs to be evolution to keep it fresh, but I know that those involved are working very hard and deserve to be given the chance, not just to keep the Roadmender alive, but to make it grow still further.
Are the County Council livng in the real world? Surely it's in their interest to support Roadmender - it consistently provides a diverse range of events for many sectors of the community.
Everyone who loves music in the UK has heard of the Roadmender... Remember Mark and Lard having that joke about Shed Seven playing at Northampton Roadmenders as it is so often misnamed?! Without this crucial and character-ridden venue Northampton will lose its identity and its people will lose a unique and essential haven. What it represents, its character, history and atmosphere after so many amazing gigs there is irreplaceable.
Forget the Roadmender, live music and the 'spirit of the age' - go instead to Milton Keynes to liaten to boy bands in packed bars full of shaven-headed lager louts wearing tracksuits, each with Vicky Pollard's retarded cousin in tow, frantically pummelling her mobile phone...heaven eh?
Funny how the likes of Sharon Osbourne can be seen on TV screeching the praoses of some talentless twat(s) while real-life talent / hard work goes down the plughole in places liek the RM. Have you tried enlisting the help of some of the big names that have been seen there recently? Robert Plant, Ozric Tentacles, Arthur Lee, the Damned, Hawkwind, oh and Nick Harper....
even though half of them don't turn up! i've always experianced some fine jamaican artists to full effect, no longer the MF centre, the roadmender is the only avenue that a lot of locals folks get to see people like Horace, Gregory, Sugar & co. Acts of this calibre (and other tastes) are fundemental to music and culture world wide, Northampton hasn't got many pieces of the pie left hense why it's on the brink of nothingness, This will be as symbolic as the lift tower, shoe factorys, the castle(before my time) and the list goes on...
where else are people from northampton going to see important up and coming groups soundhaus excellent for smaller gigs derngate a total waste of space will end up having to travel to birmingham or milton keynes still suppose i could always do my shopping at ikea whilst there!!
Places like the Roadmender must stay open- to serve the community and showcase local talent-nights like Fri-up,Verge,Stern Radio and BBC Weekender all have local bands playing.
It is here for everyone
Manics, Radiohead, Paul Weller, Billy Bragg, Cast, Nine Below Zero, Catatonia, Space, SLF and the Late Kirsty McColl to name but a few who appeared. Where can people with no transport and little money in Northampton get to see these types of bands. Don't come moaning to me when your kids have no where to go.
it is important for artists as well as music lovers that venues like this do not dissappear and recieve the apropriate amount of funding. It adds another cultural/artistic dimension to the town, bringing great bands to the inhabitants of northamptonshire
Some of my favourite gigs ever have been at Roadmender. It helps get bands on their way as well, for example: Arctic Monkeys play a fri-up in february, look where they are now. The same happened with Blur. I've seen everyone from the Damned to Maximo Park there, it's helping Northampton's scene so much. It would be such a waste to cut funding.
Don't close the roadmender, one of the only good places to go in Northampton. It has been host to many amzing bands in past years and I have had many fond times there. Please don't close it down, the Roadmnder is a benfir for the town in so many ways
Too many dcent venues have been shutting to realistically help support the underground scene for too long. at this rate the economic benefactor swill all be skint
and then they'l regreet it
eeejits
The Roadmender is the entire reason the Northampton music scene suffers.
It offers no to little support of local bands. I am happy to see its funding cut if it means they start renting it out at lower prices to get more people through the doors.
The Roadmender is not as high and mighty as it thinks it is.
Burn it down, start again. Support the local scene.
