Roadmender needs support not more obstacles. Young and older people benefit from the presence of the roadmender, instead of closing it - make it better!
Shoppers already feel disenfranchised with Northampton town centre and now there's a very real threat that the town's cultural life is to take a battering as well. Such steps are not in line with creating a vibrant, diverse and forward-thinking town for people to enjoy...which is why the rise of nearby Milton Keynes is unstoppable.
The Roadmender is a super venue that brings a great selection of diverse music and art from all over the world to the town. We all have a responsibility to keep such venues open. Sign up now!!!
with the growth of the profile of the roadmender and the soundhaus there has been an equal growth in interest in some of the great talent that we have in northamptonshire. the roadmender provides a much needed venue in the county, the council should be supporting the expansion of the place not closing it.
Roadmender has been part of my life since a child when I went to nursery there, to a teenager that attended drama classes there and now an adult who enjoys music there. This is part of Northampton history, don't let it be another victim of the Northampton Council's demolition workshop on our history.
C'mon, it's the only place that Northampton has got!!!!
The bloody council should be thinking of extending it, not closing it, so they can have bigger bands playing.
Typical small minded Northampton really.
Great memories, save the Roadmender...
I can remember the first time that the venue was threatened - even still have the stickers! It'd be a great shame to lose it as there's not a lot in Northampton anyway!!
Don't kill off the best live music venue in the area. The Roadmender should be recognised as a valuable resource for Northampton and not be allowed to become another shopping centre or housing estate.
this venue has a long well established history bringing artist from around the world to the town. whats more important another car park and more shops or a real live music and arts venue that we can all be proud of.
Tameside Council also considered closing their local live music venue, the Witchwood in Ashton under Lyne, as part of a major redevelopment of the West End of the town. Fortunately their Councillors were enlightened enough to realise the cultural significance of a thriving music venue and its contribution to the night time finances and image of the town. The Witchwood continues to provide an outlet for up and coming musicians on the Manchester music scene and provides many with something constructive to do with their time rather than the Devil finding work for idle hands to do!Good luck to the Roadmender, wake up County Council, there's little enough for your young people to do already!! Young people respect those ageing roadies, you may become one yourself, I did.
DON'T KILL ROADMENDER! If the council shuts it down they'll just complain about us teens hanging around the streets before we will then have no where to go. Roadmender WILL live on
Fronm the original Five Bells to its rightfull place as Northanpton's Premier Venue for Music, Comedy, Art & Theatre. Why withdraw funding for an icon that previews future, past & present talent. We need venues like this to promote all cultures to demonstrate that Northampton has something to offer to all. Long Live the Roadmender & all who sail in her!
It never fails to amaze me how blind County Councils can be. Through further neglect of their basic responsibilities, they see that cutting funds to such positive and creative projects such as this, as a way of saving pennies. What they fail to see is the huge negative effects and the longer term costs it has on the youth of the community, who become even more unresponsive and alienated, and who see the actions of their community leaders as one of further rejection. What they fail to see is an erosion of the vibrant and creative art scene in the county, which keeps tens of thousands of people occupied and happy, and with a real purpose. What they fail to understand is the wealth and richness that these projects pay back to the community. And why? Well simply because it can’t be measured in cold currency on a balance sheet! PLEASE DON’T WITHDRAW YOUR CRUTIAL FUNDING (you know it will come back and bite you on the arse)!
I cant believe what im reading! You cant shut roadmenders!!! This is like northamptons REAL equivalent to all the "Carling" venues situated around the country. You cant shut it man serious, big mistake. You got a fight on your hands now! GO ELEANOR AND THE GANG!!
As someone involved in organising and promoting music for young performers, we really need venues like the Roadmender for young artists to play and see other performers play.
It is vital that the County Council should be seen to provide facilities that encourage creativity and alternative points of view and The Roadmender is nationally recognised as a quality arts venue.KEEP IT OPEN!!
Nigel Hall (aged 49 former candidate in County Council elections,Mogwai and Skindred fan)
absolutely shocked. you will be removing the heart of a thriving, exciting music and arts scene.. how can any1 consider shutting this place down!!!
do NOT shut the roadmender!!!!
1. I have seen some awesome gigs there:
Tool
The Darkness, before they were famous
Headswim
Warrior Soul
Echobelly
to name but a few
2. The policy of allowing local unsigned bands to have a go was brilliant and invaluabele experince for anyone trying to start a career in mucic
3. If it wasn't for the Roadmenders I am convinced that I would not have married my wife who just gave birth to my first son.
Don't take away the Roadmender - it is an unique facility for the Town and helps to make Northampton different. Save it for future generations to enjoy and to nurture new talent
