Marriage was originally instated to help govern the tradition by protecting the rights of the two spouses. Marriage was not a religious ceremony until about the 12th century... There are no religious reasons behind marriage\'s origination. I realize traditions change so if that is the case and marriage is considered religious then where does the constitution principle of Separation of Church and State come in? Separation of Church and State was created so that the government was not to involve itself in the businesses of the church. Currently around my area in Northern Michigan we have quite a few churches that support gay marriage… So either the government needs to step up and realize they are directly violating Separation of Church and State or get their facts right and realize marriage was not even a religious practice for the first 1,200 years after \"Christ\'s Death.\"

I myself am not gay. But i think that it doesnt matter what gender you and the person you love are. I think that if a man and a man, or a woman and woman want to married THEN LET THEM! I also think it is dumb how people say that god doesnt believe in gays. Well if that was the case, then he wouldnt of made them.

I hate the ban on gay marriage. My mom knows two guys who are gay, who I've known literally my whole life, and they've been together that long. They can't marry. That's sad.

I am an avid gay rights activist. As an avid gay rights activist, I have a question: why should America call itself land of the free when discrimination and hate crime exists? Marriage is about being with the person you LOVE, regardless of sex, gender, orientation, race, disability, etc. Why should the Land of the Free be allowed to make love illegal?

America: the land of the free, where we are free of discrimination, and are allowed to do many things, one is mary which ever person you want. I'm a straight girl fighting for gay rights. You can take me down ideas cannot die and this is a very powerful idea. The government cannot ban gay marriage because the only support for it is the bible, and HELLO THANK GOD FOR FREEDOM OF RELIGION SO THEREFORE 4GET BUSH YOU LOSE!!! I'm Catholic and to other Christians out there, I have this to say: God didn't write the bible; God loves everyone; God made us in His image. As for the legal matter, the government has no right to try mix their own religious views with the law. Make gay marriage legal.
