Georgia State Representatives Williams of the 89th, Brooks of the 63rd, Watson of the 91st, Mosby of the 90th, Mitchell of the 88th and others have proposed a bill (House Bill 78) that would ban the import, sale, transport and ownership of American Pit Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier or any dog displaying these breed's physical traits. If this bill is passed the breeding of pit bulls would be prohibited and owners of existing Pit Bulls would be required to neuter, leash and MUZZLE their dogs any time they are outside their home. We as citizens of The United States of America believe that we have the right to own any breed of dog we choose. We believe that irresponsible dogowners should be held accountable rather than blaming a breed of dog. The full text of House Bill 78 can be found at the following link: http://www.legis.state.ga.us/legis/2005_06/fulltext/hb78.htm |

Pitbulls are the only dogs i have ever owned and the fact that a medical condition prevents me from having children i see andrew and lindsey (my pits) as my babies not just some dog so it really upsets me when a bill act or law is brought up that could possably take them or any futer babies from me its like takin your kids away how would you feel | |

| 2,333 | 21 May 2008 - 22:54 Katelynn Marino : Any animal or child for that matter only does something wrong if there raised or trained that way. There is no sense in punishing a living creature for doing something they were trained to do especially an animal. | |
| 2,332 | 9 May 2008 - 14:20 Pitty : If they ban pits in this state then Mike Vick needs to be banned....Its people like him that give helpless animals a bad name | |

| 2,329 | 23 Apr 2008 - 21:43 Chantel : Pit Bull type dogs are among the best breeds out there. If they'd simply do their research, they'd know that they were bred to be excedingly friendly towards people and other animals if given proper socialization, as with any dog. | |
| 2,328 | 20 Apr 2008 - 7:38 HEATHER CRAIG : I WOULD DIE WITH OUT MY DOG I OWE HIM MY LIFE AFTER SAVING IT THREE YEARS AGO IF IT WHERNT FOR HIM ID BE SHOT IN THE BACK | |

| 2,324 | 18 Mar 2008 - 19:45 Matthew David Grantz : Pitbulls are the all american dog or have people forgot? this is a free country no politician should be able to control what kind of dog a person can own this is ridiculous! | |
| 2,323 | 25 Feb 2008 - 22:47 Connie M. O\'Kelly : My two are like my children Iam 52 yrs old and if my dogs wre unable to be with me, just shoot me! Shame on the blame on the dogs. | |
| 2,322 | 18 Feb 2008 - 17:16 Jaison Locchetta : Me and my wife own a 5 Year old pittbull, I don't feel it is your right to tell me what i have to do for my pet. I think there should be strickter laws againest all these people who fight breed for fighting or just mis-use of this great breed. We would support a system monitoring Breeders, And people thaught to be fighting or abusing but to put a restriction on every owner like us who don't abuse or mistreat is wrong on so many diffrent levels. To help a breed that already is pertrayed badly by telivistion and by media and now by goverment is feeding that fear of a few bad people....I am a firm believe to punish the owner not the Breed | |
| 2,321 | 15 Feb 2008 - 22:23 Emily Treadwell : Dogs do as they are trained (or not trained, as the case may be). Any animal has the potential to cause harm, banning a particular breed is not the answer. | |
| 2,320 | 15 Feb 2008 - 20:05 Angela Bright : please dont ban them.If you should ban anything, ban the bad owners who raised them wrong from owning pits. | |
| 2,319 | 14 Feb 2008 - 23:51 Shannon Thomann : My best friends are always pitbulls when I volunteer at a shelter here. | |
| 2,318 | 14 Feb 2008 - 23:29 kelly : I am against this ban. I have been around many pit bulls that are the most loving dogs I have seen. I have also been around smaller dogs that wont think twice before biting someone. Its not the dogs, but the people that handle them. Don't let the dogs suffer from the way their owners raised them. They are the ones at fault. | |

| 2,316 | 13 Jan 2008 - 15:50 Lori Smith : | |
| 2,315 | 10 Jan 2008 - 23:00 Molly Nicole Smith : From personal experience, I meet TONS of pits at out local county shelter and they are ALL SO SWEET! They are big lap dogs who are more affectionate than other breeds. Because of that I am pretty much only into pitbulls. They are very sensitive and loyal. They are good with kids, very protective of kids, and can be good with other pets. Pitbulls go to dog parks and are fine. | |
| 2,314 | 5 Jan 2008 - 1:40 Terrance Stilwell : This is a stupid bill the dog isnt the problem its stupid owners! | |
| 2,313 | 4 Jan 2008 - 19:24 ami roth : | |
| 2,312 | 4 Jan 2008 - 17:21 AMANDA BRAND : Pitbulls are like any other breed~ they act how they are trained to act!!! Ban irresponsible owners not the pits! | |
| 2,311 | 4 Jan 2008 - 15:01 julie : ban irresponsible owners....not the animals...animals are taught bad behaviors my humans | |
| 2,310 | 4 Jan 2008 - 14:51 Angelia Shaw : No breed of dog should be banned. The AKC is against Breed Specific Legislation. There is no way this law should be passed. Each decade a different breed is focused on as being dangerous. The facts do not show that any particular breed is any more dangerous than the other. It is how the dog is treated, what it learns from its owners, etc, etc. If this was a race of people you wouldn't even think of doing this, so why are you discriminating against dogs. Take a look at the National Canine Research Council website and you will see the facts! | |
| 2,309 | 31 Dec 2007 - 8:26 Tiffani Leak : We should not ban pitbulls. There are people out here that will love and really take care of these dogs. There are people that are actually against dog fighting. I love pitbull breeds and I want to own one. I DON'T believe in fighting dogs. Dogs are like children in a sense. They are how you raise them. You all should start blaming the owners and not the dog. | |
| 2,308 | 29 Dec 2007 - 20:03 Cynthia Hovey : I do not support a pitbull ban in Georgia. This ban would not only affect the American Staffordshire Terriers, but the pitbull mixes, as well as the Georgia bulldog itself. I have two rescue pitbulls and they are the most loving dogs possible. Why doesn't someone stand up to the criminals who are abusing and fighting these dogs and put them in jail! I will not let anyone take my right to own a pitbull away from me, and blessed be the soul that tried to take my dogs. These are my dogs - my babies. | |
| 2,307 | 20 Nov 2007 - 2:19 Barbara Westmoreland : I think this whole thing is a bunch of bull and that people need to get a life and lay off poor helpless animals... It's idiots like Michael Vick who give theses sweet animals a bad name. I've met many pittbulls in my life and not once have I come across a violent one.. This whole thing just needs to come to an end and people need to just go shoot themselves. | |
| 2,306 | 22 Oct 2007 - 4:27 katrice Herschell : Pit bulls are not the problem. It's irresponsible owners. Innocent animals should not be punished for guilty human's actions. | |
| 2,305 | 20 Oct 2007 - 1:14 Jessica Mowrey : Pit bulls are great dogs when bred | |
| 2,304 | 17 Apr 2007 - 3:06 chris rensing : pit bulls are nice, gentle animals if loved and raised correctly | |
| 2,303 | 15 Apr 2007 - 21:22 Tinkle Time : Ethiopia ****s | |
| 2,302 | 12 Apr 2007 - 8:00 Malinda Ingram : Punish irresponsible owners not innocent dogs. | |
| 2,301 | 12 Apr 2007 - 7:08 Mike Farrow : Leave the pitbulls alone and start prosecuting the idiots who make any dogs vicious. It is not the dog's fault! | |
| 2,300 | 12 Apr 2007 - 3:43 Whitney Kemp : | |
| 2,299 | 11 Apr 2007 - 4:58 Robert McCoy : Remember this dear legislators, we own these dogs and we vote. Your jobs depend on us. Your votes on this issue are a matter of public record. So we the voting public WILL know! Why don't you lot go do something more effective like another flag change? That was a real "issue" you lot wasted OUR money on. | |
| 2,298 | 10 Apr 2007 - 3:58 MrsTaylor : It's funny..the most popular breed-The Lab..caused the first person to ever have to get a face transplant due to a vicious attack. The pit bull used to be the nations popular breed back when the Lil Rascals were the #1 hit show. .. and look what happened now. Now the pit bulls are the most hated. Do you suppose this is the future of the now popular Lab? There once was a human who like to eradicate a breed of humans-his name was Hitler. Are you any different?? "What happens to beast .. man always follows." | |
| 2,297 | 7 Apr 2007 - 23:42 Matt Morski : This is another sad example of how the media has destroyed the image of americas archetypical canine and how in response or goverment has sought to take away our right to own our breed of choice. Pit bulls have been part of society in america since the late 1800's when English settlers brought them here. We didn't have goverment officials trying to ban pitbulls from our country then. Why? Because we did'nt have a slanted media that needed to make up a story for the 5:00 news each day. There are dog attacks everyday in america wether it be from a poodle or a german sheperd. You dont hear about those stories because the media chooses to ignore them or even worse yet, they say it was a "pitbull like dog". All media talk aside, what do all dog attacks have in common? There was an irrisponsible owner who either A. left their dog loose,or B. failed to supervise their dog when neccesary. The press dosen't make headlines by saying "Pomerainian chews little boys hand". They make headlines by saying "Uncontrollable pitbulls attack and kill man!" It is this kind of reporting tha has tarnished the view of a wonderfull canine and struck fear into the hearts of people whenever they hear the term "pitbull". Fact, pitbulls were bred to have zero agresion towards humans and are espescially affectionate toward children when raised with them. Any pitbull that shows aggresion toward a human that did'nt provoke its owner was either abused or trained to be that way. The issue of breed specific legislation is similair to the issue of gun control. If you ban law abiding citizens from their right to bear arms the criminals will still have them and the good people will be unable to protect themselves. Same concept applies to B.S.L. If you ban pitbulls so no one can own them, you only punish law abiding citizens. Dogs will still bite people and as far as dogfighting is concerned, gan | |
