This is purely BREED DISCRIMINATION at it's finest. Where will it stop? Should we neuter and muzzle all black men because one robbed and killed the store clerk? Should we neuter and ban all white men?...the profile for a serial killer is a white male! Where will it stop? A few irresponsible owners should be the ones punished. NOT THE DOGS! By the way, I am not an owner of the breed.... just a concerned dog owner that wonders...WHERE WILL THEY DRAW THE LINE?
How far will the law makers of this country stoop. I am appalled at the numerous times I am asked to sign these kinds of petitions. When will the people rise up and say "ENOUGH". A dog is born and trained to become something horrible. After 14 years of breeding and raising these dogs the idea that our government would see the breed extinct is absurd. I for one will not stand by and allow the very essence of the American Pitbull drift away. I wish the honorable Representatives would intorduce laws to punish the owners who are of ill repute and train their dogs to be terrors. I wonder if any of the Honorable men introduginc this legislation has ever been to an AKC UKC or ADBA conformation ring to see the majesty and wonder of these great animals. It is time to pull together and defeat the owners of pitbulls that threaten those of us who are resposible.
Please do not ban our pets. They are members of our family. We have had no problem with any of our dogs being aggressive. We have two children and our pit bulls are very good with them. Any thing with a mouth can bite. There are a lot of labs, and other dogs that are "good breeds" that bite. The news never covers these stories, but let a pit bull from an irresponsible owner bite, and then it's all over the news. This is not fair to the animal or the people who love them!!!!!!!!!
We own several American Pit Bull Terriers. They are a wonderful breed of dog. Ours are very loving, loyal and wonderful with ours kids. I had them when I was a child as well. It is the irresponsible owners who give this breed a bad name.
Banning this breed to prevent the type of people who fight them from having them is ludicrous.What they do is illegal anyhow, so what do they care if owning them is illegal too? they will still own and breed and fight them. These are the dogs that cause a menace to society when they get loose not the ones owned by responsible people. You are punishing only the good owners. I work in the veterinary field and have never been threatened or bitten by a bull breed of any sort, but time after time by labs , cockers etc...
reading through other comments and owning two Pit Bulls my self, it shows ignorance to put a ban on an animal such as this. The Pit Bull is a wonderfull creature; intelligent, comical, and soft hearted. If this house bill 78 passes there will still be irresponsible owner (breeders) that fight, encourage aggression, and tourture the American Pit Bull Terrier. Pit Bulls are not born aggressive, they are taught aggression. There is an old saying that all Pit Bull owners have heard "Punish The Deed Not The Breed", I say "Banning The Breed Doesnt Stop The Deed".

Taking away our pits is crazy. Its not the dogs fault if they are violent its the owners, for making them that way. Therefore the representitives that came up with this should watch out for whose hands they come in contact with. Also aint it a dogs job to take care of their owner.
If this law is passed, it will punish responsible pet owners, not the criminals that abuse and mistreat the breed. This segment of our population will continue to do as they please. Make the penalties for dog attacks stricter rather than descriminating against the entire breed and the responsible pet owners who love thier pit bulls and train and socialize for a good pet.

Please don't ban the American Pit Bull Terrier. I know there are thousands that feel the same. These animals are the difinition of courage and loyalty.
What a pity to think that all pitbulls are dangerous-Pit bulls are sweet, loveable, loyal and great family dogs!!!!! Pit bulls are NOT instinctively bad, their owners are.
I have owned several pit bulls over the years and have not had any problems with viciousness towards adults or other dogs. They were all very playful and loving (unannounced guests were suprised that my dog was a pit bull. They said he was too playful to be a pit bull!!) Bad owners give pit bulls a bad name. Last I checked "labs," "german shephards" and "chows" statistically bite people more than pit bulls!
I am an owner of two 'pit bulls' both of which are affection, bright loving and loyal. These are desirable traits in all dogs. Bad dogs are a result of bad owners and strong steps should be taken to control owners. The breed should not be outlawed.
This is stupid. If its to stop dog fighting, it wont, they will either bring in the dogs illegally or use a different breed of dog. If its to stop dog attacks, this also wont help, irresponsible owners will just get a comparable breed of dog and also make those mean, and strays come in all breeds, and many are mean whether purebred or mutt. What good could banning a breed of dog possibly do?? This is an unecessary law that simply attacks the symptom of a situation, and not the heart of the problem/s itself.
to ban apitbull is worse than banning a maltese,lab, any breed, because they are the most loyal, unconditional lovers, why would you want to ban these 4 legged orphans?

I have two wonderful and sweet pit bulls because I treat them that way. Ban cocker spaniels, they bite more people per year. Then again think of other things to do besides honing in on something that is not important.

I understand there are losers who train pitbulls to fight, but this is not the solution. Pit bulls are wonderful dogs and good owners should not be discriminated against because of the actions of a few bad apples.
My sister has the most gentle,loving, loyal pit bull...a rescue dog at that. She is smart and wonderful with family and strangers alike. Pit bulls are not instinctively bad...bad people make bad dogs. Perhaps we could neuter/ spay a few bad people. No NO...that would be inhumane,wrong and fascist!
I shudder to think of the families that will be broken by this law. My dog is a family member and I would have to move if this happened in my state. Educate the ignorant, which apparently is GA state representatives.
I have worked in shelters, doggie daycare, owned my own dog training business & walked dogs for a living. "Pitbulls" are no more aggressive than any other breed. They are not even the number one dog that bites in this country. They are strong & loyal, so ugly humans abuse that. Regulate the owners, not the innocent dogs.
I own two pit bulls and they are the sweetest, most loving dogs I have ever had. Is this anything like blaming a gun for how people decide to use (or abuse) it? Are we soon going to outlaw the human race because some people (due to bad raising) grow up to be serial killers??? Punish the deed... Haven't we gotten past stereotypes yet?
Criminalization of prefectly ethical behavior is un-American. How about stregnthening and enforcing exsisting laws aimed at actual criminal activities.
I have had nothing but positive interaction with this amazingly sweet and docile breed. The problem is due to poor treatment of these animals, not the animals themselves.
Punish the deed, not the breed. Why should my family and I pay for someone elses irresponsibility and bad decisions. My dogs have not broken any laws or done anything wrong.
