My son is studying to be a vet tech and he assures me that it is not the breed that is the problem but the owners...I trust his judgement in this matter and I am against all government interference with personal issues such as this.
I wonder if Williams consulted with any of the 90% of Georgians that oppose this bill. Its not the dogs fault stupid, its the owners fault/responsibility. Fines and go after the owners! Not the poor animals.
There are only a handful of pitbulls in the United States and georgia that are trained to attack,. I believe that all dogs should be on a leash or make the owner responsible for any attack, not the dog, however muzzling a dog is inhumane. As a representative, you should petition to have the public trained in minding their own business and not adgetating dogs instead of harnessing the dog. A dog won't attack unless it is aggetated by another source. Educated the public to not harrass dogs.
Punishing responsible dog owners - and basically saying Pit Bulls are not "good enough" or appropriate to live in this state - is wrong. Instead, punish the irresponsible dog owners. I've seen mini dogs terrorize people, while some of the nicest, sweetest dogs are pit bulls. DO NOT pass this ridiculous bill!
This is an outrage to any responsible dog owner, and to the breed intself. My family has raised German Shephards my whole life, now I have a Pit, the pit is more loving, predictable, and yes protective than any animal I have ever owned. She sleeps with us (my spouse, the cat and the taco bell dog.
As many others have stated, it is the ownerwho is responsible for the disposition of the dog. Do not deny the citizens of our state the opportunity to have the companionship of whatever type of dog that they choose.
Owners need to be held accountable for the training and raising of their pets. A specific breed should not be targeted because of the acts of irresponsible owners. I've never owned a pit bull. But have many friends that do. They are very sweet dogs because that's how they've been raised. If tougher legislation is needed, it's against the people that are abusing the animals or training them to fight.
I have bred and owned Rottweillers and Pit Bulls my whole life. I am opposed to the punishment of responsible owners being punished for irresponsible owners who dont understand the bred and have no knowledge and education in owning and representing these breeds. These are the most loving animals I have ever owned.
OVER THE LAST SIX YEARS I HAVE BEEN BREEDING AND SHOWING AMERICAN STAFFORDSHIRE TERRIERS. IT WOULD BE A DISGRACE TO HAVE A FEW SPOIL IT FOR THOSE WHO TAKE AMSTAFFS IN AS FAMILY MEMBERS. ALL OF MY DOGS LIVE INDOORS AND JUST ADORE MY THREE DAUGHTERS.THEY ARE VERY PROTECTIVE OF CHILDREN AND KIND TO ANYONE THEY INTERACT WITH. WHAT EVER I CAN DO TO HELP STOP THIS NONSENSE PLEASE LET ME KNOW WITH AN EMAIL RESPONSE.
I have been in veterinary medicine for 30 years and have never had a problem with this breed. The problem lies with the owners and they should be held accountable. I see more problems with Rottweilers, Chihuahuas and Chows! Unfortunately many dogs are owned by people who have no business owning any dog!
As a Georgia citizen and registered voter, I urge you not to pass this bill. As with any dogs, these breeds are only as dangerous as their owners train them to be. Hold the owners responsible, not the dogs.
As a petsitter I deal with all breeds of dogs. I have found that they are usally as nice as their owners want them to be. Punish bad owners, not the animal.
why don't people see that its the owners and not the dogs that are at fault, i have friends that have Pit Bull Terriers and they're the nicest dogs you've ever met, they're not naturally evil! they're made that way by abuse and poor ownership!
Banning pit bulls or related breeds is like blaming your pencil on mispelled words. This is ridiculous and the people promoting this bill are totally uneducated on the breed and need to do do research before making facist decisions.
Please do not hold these wonderful animals responsible for the consequences of poor and improper ownership. I am an owner of a targeted "dangerous breed" dog, and she is the most gentle, wonderful, and caring canine I have had the privilege of owning. Please use your time in session to address more pressing matters.
My sister's dog Blitz is one of the sweetest and most mannerable dogs that I know. This is because my sister has raised him responsibly. Even the children in our neighborhood would go and play with him and sometimes walk him. Punish the owners that don't care.
A dogs personality is how they are raised, they need to go after the owners who are abusing & fighting these dogs. I have 3 rednose pits & they are the best & sweetest dogs ever!
As an owner of what is considered a "dangerous breed" I have nothing but the utmost disgust for this proposal. My rottie and all the pit bulls I have encountered have all been wonderful animals. It's the ignorance of some owners who have gotten these breeds in trouble.
I've encounter much meaner dogs than Pit Bulls. Most Pits in general are sweet natured and it takes an owner most of the time to make them mean. Don't be scared of what you don't understand!
I feel this suggested Pit Bull Bill is extremely short sighted. It is common sense that any dog can be a threat if the owner of the dog treats the dog in a manner that is violent or breeds violence. I have shetland sheepdogs. However, they are fenced and they are raised very lovingly. Therefore, they are non-violent and loving. I am a 35 year veteran as a registered nurse and would just like to see common sense used in any proposed bill. Carol Chandler, RN, BSN, CCRN
My Blitz is loving, intelligent and beautiful. I raised him around people including children and everyone falls in love with him even friends that initially had phobias. Punish the owners that are irresponsible and vicious.
I'm all for stricter requirements for prospective pitbull owners - but to hold the breed responsible for the actions of irresponsible owners is equally irresponsible. Please contact me if I can be more active in fighting this ill conceived petition! Mark
Okay, so next we can ban Boxer's, Collies, German Shepherds, Doverman's, and then what, Poodle's? Give me a break. A dog will act how it is raised, just like a child.
Hold the owners of ALL dogs responsible, not the breed. German Sheppard’s bite more people than bull dogs. I’ve had many dogs over the years, but the two “pit bulls” in my home are sweetest, most gentle dogs we’ve owned. This is a bad law, by ignorant politicians looking for “feel good” legislation.
You cannot 'breed' hate into an animal. You can only breed hate by ignorance. Don't let the few bad apples spoil the bushel. Any dog can bite...the true question is what happened to make the dog bite??? (this ones for sadie-bear...)
pitbulls are not inherently dangerous. it is the owners that need to be held responsible. they are loving animals unless abused and taught to be dangerous.
My husband and I own a wonderful, loving American Pit Bull Terrier named Maddy. I work in the Veterinary Medicine field and see aggressive dogs from all breeds in clinic. Responsible ownership is the key to a well cared for and well socialized animal - from any breed. Also, picking a breed that is right for you and your family and making a life time commitment to your new dog is vital. Our Maddy was rescued after being found in a knap sack in a local creek with her seven other siblings. She was the only survivor at five weeks of age. Unfortunately, similar stories of cruelty and irresponsible "owners" are commom with this breed. I'm sure that she was "thrown away" because the puppies were sick, and the "owner" did not want to spend money for vet care since they were probably bred to fight or for many other horrible scenarios. I hope that we can use any publicity surrounding this pointless bill to educate the public about the true characteristics and traits of pit bull breeds. Not the poor animals that are used for pit fighting and those that are TRAINED to be aggressive to humans - Not a normal trait for a pit bull. Pit bulls were the most popular breed in our country through the 1960's for a reason - they are great family dogs and wonderful with children. How did they come to be the most misunderstood breed in the world? I blame the media and our local and state governments for punishing and sensationalizing the breed and not the person(s) responsible for the deed. Irresponsible owners of any breed should be held accountable to the fullest extent Georgia Law will allow. These laws are already in place - Why not fully enforce them and spend the money to educated the public instead of spending our tax dollars working to pass a worthless bill. Breed bans do not work - it has been proven in other states.
Well, while we're at it any dog with the proper training can be extremely dangerous. Are we going to ban German Sheperds trained in Police work? They can bite, too.
I saw this on the news this morning and I am so upset. My Staffordshire is the most loving puppy that any pet that I have ever had. This bill has to be stopped! The government needs to focus on the PEOPLE that raise pets.
My pit bull is the most oving dog I have ever had. How about a loaw that makes the owners of vicious dogs go to jail. They train them to be that way. It is not their nature.
How about a concentration on personal responsibility instead of the creation of a bill that leads us to look to 'Big Government' to dictate the type of dogs we own.
The only dog ban should be for a specific dog with a known history of being a danger, REGARDLESS OF THE BREED. Any ban should be for dangerous dogs, not a breed. I personally know of more than one Lab that has attacked and injured people and other dogs. I also know several dogs that are considered "dangerous" breeds that are sweet, submissive, and gentle. Certain breeds get a bad reputation due to those breeds being popular with irresponsible owners.
Next time a kid gets in a fight at school lets tie him up and gag him! My two pitbulls are the friendliest dogs ever! They may beat you with their tales - but that's about it.
I formally owned two pitbulls. Once, and only once the male broke his collar and ran around the neighborhood. I found him next door licking the hands of my neighbor. Not all pitbulls are vicious, man maulding dogs. It's as any other breed, it's how you raise them. You can't blame the dog for an owners irresponsibility to raise a loving dog. That's madness.
