They are crazy. I've had a pitbull for three years and she has never harmed a fly. If congress really wants to do something, then go get the people that train these dogs to be mean.
There is no way you can sterotype a whole breed of dogs because a few of them were raised the wrong way. If they really want to to do something, then go get the people that train these dogs to be mean. They are the sweetest dogs in the world. I should know, I own one!
Rather than banning a breed I think it would be more beneficial to catch and punish more severely those who abuse the breed, and train them to be vicious.
Any dog, raised the wrong way can and will be agressive and have the potential to do harm to others. The ban isn't fair to the pit bulls or their owners who train their dogs correctly and pose no threat to anyone. The real problem are those who train and encourage their dogs to fight and attack.
Ban the animals that are training these dogs to hate. Or better yet just have them come to my neck of the woods. I'd like to put them in a pit with me!!!
While don't have a pitbull, I do have 2 rottweilers. It is my concern that there will be place the rottweiler breed as well. Therefore I do not support the ban of pitbulls. I feel that person should have the right to onw what ever pet he or she choos. The owners of dangerous dogs should be held accountable.
Please don't pass this bill! I own an amstaff, and he is the sweetest. Just loves to cuddle with us and finished first in his puppyclass. Does that sound like a dangerous dog?
I'm a pet stylist and I have been bitten by maltese, shih tzus, yorkies, poodles, pugs, wire fox terriers, schnauzers, labradors, goldens... yet I've never been bitten by any breed deemed "aggressive".It's just not fair. I'm sorry there are pathetic excuses for humans out there that have caused all this grief. Please don't destroy the future of these beautiful companions.
The problem is not the pitbull, the problem is the irresponsible pit bull owner. I have owned pit bulls for over ten years, they are a wonderfull loving breed. Has no one noticed that most bad owners are criminals? Usually involved with drug activity and gangs. The poor pitbulls who are owned by people like that live in hell every day. JUDGE THE DEED NOT THE BREED!!!
If you do this you all deserve to be kicked out of office. You don't have the guts to go after people who fight dogs. You take the wimpy way out and go after innocent pit owners. Dog abusers will find another breed to fight and the what will you do? Go after the next breed? Spend my tax money on something worth while like illegal aliens who are draining our schools and health care system. This is a joke!
My wife just sign and now i am.
We have an American Staffordshire Terrier and it looks like an Pittbull.
They are lovely dogs. It's not the breed what it is about it's the owners.
I have an american stafford terrier, and it is the best family dog you can get, its the same with pit bulls. You have to blame the owners not the breed of dog.
I am currently an American bulldog Owner.. But I have had pitbulls in the past and they are a wonderful and smart and loving breed.
I am totally against penalizing a breed, we do need to penalize the deed and owner!
Put the blame were it belongs, with the owner of a bad dog. We need to figure out a way to keep these wonderful dogs out of the hands of irresponsible owners.
Minorities and youths are dispropotionately portrayed as villianous in the media based on the innappropriate actions of a few. Likewise pit bulls are sensationalized in an effort to gain an audience. Pit bulls are incredibly human oriented, they live to make their handlers happy. Most are naturally gentle with children, especially babies. Attack bad owners, not the breed.
don't disriminate against the breed - most of the issues are due to aggressive owners..the causality to human attacks are related to the owner not the dog, the dog is just following orders..
By trying to ram rod this "bread specific" legislation you are just showing your indolence and lack of acumen as an elected official. Take some time, put in some thought and pass something that protects your constituents from dangerous dogs, not perceived dangerous breeds. Pit bulls raised in a normal healthy way are incredible family dogs. As with any dog, it is when these animals are neglected, raised to be aggressive or are abused that we see them lash out. We should be looking at the owners, not the dog.
There is no way they are going to ban these dogs. This is America, if they can do that then what is next? This is discrimination people, lets stop this now!!!
I think it is ridiculous to try and ban a whole breed.... the temperment of any dogs lies in the hand of the owner... any dog can be vicious if it was reared that way and vice versa all dogs can be loving if given the proper love, training, and structure.
I work in a kennel, and haven't had a problem with a pit bull yet. Most of the bites in the kennel come from small dogs. We have had more than one aggressive golden retriever, but never a pit.
This is an out rage. I have two pits, my family has always had pits. i have beem bitten by numerous small breed dogs, but never a pit. i don't understand what they think they are accomplishing. If you cut my privates off, put duct tape over my mouth, and keep me pinned up i will be quite angry. pits need to socialize. mine go every where with me and have never been aggressive to any one!
this is nothing more than a bully witch-hunt. the view that this breed is predisposed to violence is no different than saying that blacks are born with athletic traits. The latter will get you sued or fired, yet these politicians can get away with the same mentality when proposing this legislation.
I think that we need to muzzle those who said Kill the Dog, keep the carcass. These people destroy the voice of the positive person in our society. They need to be banned to another country or island.
We need to pay attention to who we vote into office because what will Big Brother tell us we can and can't do next! This is just the beginning.
I love my Pit like he was my own child. If you never owned one then you would not know how they are and would probably be against them like the people who stated Kill the Dog, Keep the Carcass. You need to find another hobby because we are here trying to stop the ignorance that is becoming rampant in our society. Just because the media only dicusses when Pits bite people does not mean that they are all mean and out to hurt you. It is apparent that you do not own one of these dogs and you are just like the legislators that have designed this bill. Get a life! Stop clogging our system with your ideals that are negative. If this is what the typical Pit Hater is like than I am in the wrong state and country.
Pit Bulls are a loving bredd of dogs. It is sad that it has come to the point where there is even unfair discrimination against certain breeds of dogs. The majority of Pit Bull owners are outstanding responsible people with great dogs. It is the few who treat their animals badly who bring negative attention to this breed. It is absolutely wrong to discriminate against a breed of dog! Their are laws to protect different races of people from discrimination as well as laws to protect endagered species of animals. This law would cause the Pit Bull to become an endagered breed which is not right!
I have owned American Pit Bull Terriers for years and never experienced any problem with them. It is the irresponsible people out there who are not taking care of their animals and allowing their animals to roam free who need to be banned! How can you possibly ban these breeds but not other breeds that have been bred for people agression for centuries?
I am the proud owner of two English Staffordshire Bull Terriers; one of the breeds included in the ban. I am a long time dog owner and the bully breeds, by far, have been the most loyal, gentle and intelligent pets I have had. If legislation is necessary, and I believe it is, let it be directed at irresponsible owners. Shifting blame to the animal is simply absurd.
This bill is absolutely absurd! I agree with everyone else, the owners of the animals are the ones that need to be targeted. I understand the reasoning behind this; however, lawmakers are violating our civil liberties as Americans and defitinely taking the wrong approach to solving the problem!
My fiance and I have a 2 year old pit bull named chloe. She is the most gentle dog I have ever seen. We are fixing to move int ogether and we will not be able to keep her in our apartment because they say you aren't allowed to have a vicious breed of dog at the apartment, however this apartment is our only choice at the moment. I really sucks that we have to give her up because other people make their dogs mean and they hurt people. My mom's 8lb. Chiahuah has bitten me more than any other dog and they just call her being protective.
Give me a break!! Our vet tells us that she would much rather treat a Pit Bull than a small dog (poodle, yorkie, cocker spaniel, etc). She has never been bitten by a pit but has been bitten by more than one of the other breeds on numerous occasions. We own several pits and one small terrier. The pits have never bothered the terrier; in fact, he tries to bite them. I trust him less around other dogs, children, or adults than I do the pits. When we do that with people, isn't that called profiling? and isn't that illegal? What scares me is that this Bill is just ludicrous enough to pass. Personally, I think some of these politicians need to be muzzled themselves.
I think more should be done to eliminate dog fighting and people who abuse pitbulls causing them to become violent (as would happen with any animal who was abused), rather than blaming the breed. Any resarch done on pitbulls shows what wonderful pets they can be with love and proper training(which again is what any dog needs)
I have a daschaund, only 15lbs that bit a sweet pitt bull on the ear. There was no reaction from the pit bull (except a whimper from the pain). I think pit bulls get a bad reputation because some people train them to attach. This can be with any dog if you teach negative behavior. This also applies to people. People who raise children and animals should read "Whale Done", a short book that explains training with positive response.
Any behavior pattern can be induced into an animal by its training and treatment by irresponisble owners or the lack of them. Why does law abiding citizens have no rights anymore, why does the minority always win and why do criminals always have all the rights. Come on lawmakers, get real, and get responsible, penalize the irresponisble owners not the animal. The animal is only doing what it is taught
This is dumbest thig i have ever heard of. If you are planning on banning pit bull dogs then you are going to have to ban Bull dogs. Which is wait a sec the state dog?? Georgia Bulldogs!!! think about it. I think ya'll need to focus more on the people who are raising pitt bulls to fight not pitt bulls in general.
I think that pitbulls should not be banned because i have seen them be very wonderful family pets .It is not the dogs its the people who raise them any dog can be vicious.Pitbulls do not deserve the bad rep they're being givin
To ban only 1 breed of dog is insane. I would never muzzle my pitbull, nor the jack russell or other small dog she plays with she lives and plays with. To ban 1 type of dog is a mild case of racism, saying that one type commits crimes, therefore they are banned. Its stupid. NOT all dogs are alike and the horrible owners should be blamed.
There needs to be a Ban on evil abusive owners. Like children if abused a child is more agressive. Dogs responsed in the same manner. Past owner of a wonderful loving Pitbull, Tonya R. Lanthier
I'm a very proud owner of several APBT's. They are loved very much and give back just as much if not more. Stable minded individuals they are, more so than some folks. Ya'll can come visit me any time. You will not get bitten, mauled, attacked, or whatever words you choose to use againt these animals. What you will get is a lot of attention and unconditional love. You won't get that from me the "TOP DOG" the owner. I have folks come and put their hands through my fence and pet my dogs. They react so "viciously" to this stimuli they kiss and lick them or lay down and roll over on their backs to have their bellies scratched. Now how vicious is that?
"PUNISH THE DEED (DOG FIGHTERS, DRUG DEALER'S and ABUSIVE INDIVIDUALS that CAN NOT or WILL NOT be HUMANE to these beautiful animals) NOT THE BREED (THE AMERICAN PIT BULL TERRIER)" Nor punish the RESPONSIBLE OWNER.These dogs go through hell with IRRESPONSIBLE owner's. It is out right ANIMAL CRUELTY and ABUSE.
