Once again government is trying to limit and choose what is considered appropriate and rightful in pet ownership. With all the other crap going on in this world, priority is limitations of dog breeds. Lets not worry about about school violence, drops in statistal scores within the schools, gun ownership by known criminals, the harmful elements added to our foods such as steroids and antibiotics, no those subjects are not important, but hey lets control pitbulls by banning them so the rest of world can feel much safer, yep that will do it. Ban the pitbull and send your kids to our wonderful violent, ill staffed schools where they can eat wonderful lunches with ill inflated by-products added to their meats, with yes that nice quiet kid thats packing an uzi, yes sir boy ban the pitbull everything else sounds ok to me. Once again government has all the priorities straight, yes sir good job, ban them all.

It would really sadden me to see a state we considered moving to ban a breed we love so much. Banning breeds is unconstitutional and against every free right us americans have! Dont be stupid, be our government and as good of one as you are cabeable of. This saddens me that the folks of gerogia can be so cruel, inhumane, and ignorant to ban such a noble loyal breed. HERE IS AN IDEA BAN THE STUPID IDIOTS WHO OVER BREED THESE DOGS, MAKE BREEDERS FOLLOW RULES AND GUIDELINES AND HAVE LICENSES TO BREED!

I have an American Pit Bull Terrier. This is the first dog I have ever owned and love him to death. I chose to get him neutered because of all the idiots in the world. I didn't want his puppies fighting. I also chose to post signs on my privacy fence so that people would know I have a dog. That in itself is ridiculous. You shouldn't be in my backyard without permission anyway. I only posted the signs to protect me. If you come in my backyard uninvited, your ass is grass - no matter what breed of dog I have. What the Georgia Legislature needs to focus on is the sorry, pathetic, whimpy, idiotic, individuals who raise them to fight. I believe the main reason that Pit Bulls are trained to fight is their high tolerance for pain. There are many dog breeds that are bigger than Pit Bulls... but none have the pain tolerance. You can train ANY dog to be mean and fight. Oh yea, when I was 2, my cat nearly scratched my eye out. Shall we ban cats also? I also got bitten by my hamster, my neighbor's weenie dog and my cousin,s Husky...LET'S BAN ALL PETS ! ! ! ! ! This bill is absurd.

I was afraid of dogs my whole life until I met my boyfriend's dog....a pit bull. She is the sweetest dog I have ever met. She gets along well with all people and all animals. I just recently got a pit mix of my own and I could not have asked for a better dog. The key is socialization for any dog. This bill is ridiculous! It is the irresponsibility of certain owners who are going to cost the rest of us the joy of owning one of the greatest dogs in the world. The breed should not be punished. The uninformed (ie. the media and the committee members for this bill) should be informed by any of us who will speak up. Banning of pit bulls will do nothing to stop the bad owners from getting them....they WILL find a way to still breed them, fight them, and abuse them. It is up to us to contact our legislators and do all we can to save our pits. We have to be heard!!!!

I think this should never pass. You cannot blame the breed for human faults. My daughter has a 2 yr of Staffordshire bull terrior and the most this dog would do is lick you to death. It has been socialized properly and even plays with my cats. If you are going to do this, where will it stop? I fear being bit by the smaller terrier breeds than properly raised bull dogs.

I must first say I've always believed the potential of their dangerous bad behavior per statisics of actual events is frightening. The unknown of their actions and with such enormous strength that will not release. In deed awareness of this is upmost important to humans and the dog itself. Keep in mind that opinion was endured by NEVER having been personally involved with a pit bull.Recently I've shared many months living with a pit mix so I now have a different opinion. She has every medical need met, safe and secure environment, loving owners to care for her as well as neighbors and friends. She adores people and shows affection to people in the same manner as any and all breeds would do.I completly trust her.The breed name is a threat to all unfairly. The blame there lies on the owners whom have all by theirselves destroyed the breed to make its known title as it is today. The dog is going to act how it has been raised. This law if passed is way off course here. Spend time with a pit before making judgement.OWNERS of ANY breed who physically harm others shall be responsible. The dog can't speak or defend itself. I think GA has alot more serious issues of their own that they can't handle. For example: Save your tax dollars and put a muzzle on your interstate jumpers!

HOW WOULD WILLIAMS,BROOKS, WATSON, MOSBY, AND MITCHELL FEEL TO BE NEUTER, LEASHED, AND BE MUZZLED WHILE THEIR OUTSIDE. IT IS VERY EASY TO PREJUDGE AND DISCRIMINATE WHEN YOU ARE AN IGNORANT LEGISLATOR WITH NO TRUE KNOWLEDGE OF THE BREED. WHILE THEY ARE SITTING ON THEIR FAT ASSES MAYBE THEY SHOULD DO A LITTLE RESEARCH ON THE BREED AND PROVIDE US WITH SOME STATITCAL DATA...WHICH WE ALL KNOW THEY WON'T BE ABLE TO FIND AGAINST THIS BEAUTIFUL BREED. ITS VERY EASY TO REMEMBER A COUPLE OF NEGATIVE MEDIA DRIVEN STORIES, BUT HOW EASY THEY FORGET ALL THE GOOD THESE DOGS HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO OUR SOCIETY. ARE YOU GOING TO BAN THAT SEEING EYE DOG OR THAT POLICE DOG- IN SOME CITIES AMERICAN PIT BULL TERRIERS ARE USED AS SUCH. THESE LEGISLATOR NEED TO LOOK INTO PUNISHING THE DEED NOT THE BREED.

Once again the dog is blamed for the owners stupidity. I myself have had a Pitbull. Or should I say a Staffy. It was my favorite dog. I have seen poodles be more vicious. Some people use a loyalty in the dog against it. This breed of dog will die for it's owner because of it's loyalty. Pay attention to the dogs that are top 5. Dalmations, Shepards, Huskies, Rotties etc. All of these dogs can be vicious if trained to be that way. I'm more scared of an ankle bitten Chihuahua. Mussell the bad owners not the dogs. DON'T tell me what I can own. This is still supposed to be a free place to live.

When will you understand that it's not in the nature of the dog its in the nature of the owner who trains the dog that reflects on the animals personality. ANY DOG can an may possess aggressive trates. It is not the breeds fault thet stupid people have been allowed to have these dogs. We as dog owners and lovers need to be careful who we sell our puppies to. I think that it is a far cry that our government should be allowed to tell us as americans what we can and can not own. My first dog was a pit bull. I received a phone call while living in Florida from a man who RAISED FIGHTER PITS. His dog had her litter however there was one "runt" and wanted to know if I wanted it, if not he would be killed. I picked up the puppy and raised him. He was one of the family. He was the absolute best dog I have ever had. He lived for 12 years and died of cancer. During his life, I gave birth to two children. There was never a day, minute, hour where I second-guessed to leave him alone with my newborn up to eight years old. He allowed my children to crawl all over him and actually stood next to my son while learning to walk to make sure he was ok. It is not the breed, it is the owner. My pit bull came from a line of fighter pits and he was the most loyal best friend I have ever had in my life. I could point my finger to one section of the floor and he would lay there and "crawl" to place his nose where my finger was. We would walk on the beach with sunglasses on, baseball hats, he was very playful and never met a stranger. To treat this breed the way the government is attempting to do is horrible. Look at the dog attacks - pit bulls are not even close to the top 5. Thanks to the media - they have been painted to be these mean beasts and they are not. You need a best friend that will love you more than he loves himself, you will find it in the heart of a pitbull. PLEASE do not allow this to go through -

This is ubsurd! My pit is 5 years old and is better behaved than most children I know. The only threat she is to people is she may lick you to death. She is aptly named Sugar. THIS IS MY CHILD! I would never expect someone to treat their child in this manner. My Shug has helped me raise many orphaned kittens and loves to play with our ferrets, she has never shown any signs of aggression. Put me in jail now because there is no way in hell I would ever consider muzzling her to take her to Petsmart to get her some treats. When we go to Petsmart I put her in a buggy because I don't want her coming in contact with others dogs germs!!

I wonder if Rep Williams of the 89th even bothered to read the characteristics of the American Stafforshire Terrier before writting this proposal. Breed-specific legislation has been proven to be unenforceable, and is a waste of effort. Put the effort into education - it is horrifying to me that young children (like, 7 years old) ask me while I'm walking my dogs: "You breed them? They fight?" Where in the hell do you think they get that from? Make it easier for Animal Control to identify, fine and prosecute these people in the fighting and backyard breeding rings. By the way, my bullies sleep with my young niece and nephew. All they do is keep them warm. :)

I am the proud owner of 3 beautiful american pitbull terriers. They are all very socialized with people, cats, and other dogs. Banning the breed will do nothing, but let irresponsible/illegal pitbull activites to continue and punish the responsible owners of the breed. We need to ban people from over breeding these dogs, keeping them on chains, and fighting and abusing these sweet babies. The media also needs to air news stories besides pitbulls that bite. I hate to break it to the ignorant, but there are many other breeds that attack people more often than pitbulls. In fact, according to studies pitbulls are one of the least likely breeds to bite a human.

It is wrong to ban any kind of breed anywhere in the U.S.A. History tells us that the pitbull has always been a melo dog with exceptionally good temperment. It's the people who fight them that ruin the pitbull's personality. Any dog that is trained to fight has a bad personality. This is why tougher penalties should be placed on any owner who is caught fighting pits.

A breed specific ban WILL NOT work, is not effective and basically unenforceable. What law enforcement agency is going to go around and decide which dog is a "Pit Bull" and which isn't? What next, ban Rotties, Dobies, etc., etc?? I have a boxer and get asked constantly, "is that a Pit?". Also, I'm the proud owner of a Staffie; he's not got a mean bone in his body. Money well spent would be in education. I do support a "dangerous dog law", which would encompass any/all breeds. This type of law would be a specific dog, belonging to a specific person(s) which is proven to be dangerous to the general public. A dangerous dog law is fair, enforceable and effective. Punish the owners of such dogs and I believe there will be a dramatic decrease in dog attacks, from any breed.

This bill is dumb and it won't work at preventing dog attacks. We need to enforce the laws that are already on the books( leash law, generic dangerous dog law) instead of passing more laws.

This is the most ignorant bill ever proposed. Criminals will continue to own and mistreat dogs regardless of the laws and you will only prohibit good responsible owners from enjoying this loyal loving breed.

My Grandaughter has several Pit Bulls and they are well trained and well cared for, they are good pets, and are good protectors for her. My opinion is that they like another breed Doberman Pinsers, have a Bad Rap, mainly because of the Owners, who mistreat them. All dogs are capable of causing harm to humans, but they must be trained, and loved, rather than mistreated. I would vote against the ban. We presently have made it a felany to mistreat animals which may have some positive influence..

I do not believe banning pit bulls will be helpful to any one in the community. Education and training is where time and money needs to be spent.

Breed specific legislation will not stop aggressive dogs. It would be more beneficial to focus on legislation against known aggressive dogs and working on an aggression prevention plan. Educating the public about aggression prevention will be most helpful in resolving the aggression issue. Every breed has the potential to bite and can be taught to be aggressive. Specific breeds are not the problem. The problem is the uneducated owners of the aggressive dogs.

I have friends with bulls and they are some of the sweetest dogs I've met. It is unfair to categorize these dogs.
