One of my best friends have two of them...they are two of the sweetest dogs ever. If they are raised to be mean, then of course they will be. It's all the owners fault, not the breed.
Breed specific laws will not cure the problem. Go after the owners that abuse and fail to responsibly train their pets. APBT have a high play drive - when animals are abused, neglected and ignored they go stir crazy, just as a human would. APBTs are highly intelligent and intense, that is where owners go wrong, they need attention.
Banning pit bulls would be ignorant and unfair. The majority of any breed are wonderful and loving pets. It would be wrong to ban this beautiful animal which happens to be my favorite breed.
I live in Aurora CO and the city is making it very hard for pit bull owners like my self. Enforcing owners to have 100,000 of insurance, locking our dogs in a 5-by-10-foot steel cage in our own back yards! Not allowing your dog on the front porch or any where in the house! where it could easily escape, $200-600 a year in licensing fee's, you must spay or neuter your dog and on top of that place a micro-chip in its back for tracking purposes! This is an outrage, the city is making the life of the animal far worse by enforcing these regualtions. its like inprisionment in your own home and I dont know a single person who would want a member of their family to live this way. Ive signed petitions across the globe supporting the breed and not the deed. Dogs too can suffer from anxiety being in closed kennels and behind locked doors all day. What will they think of next? Doggie sedatives.
Pit Bulls are not "bad dogs"
they are great loving, beutiful, wonderful dogs. They have grown to have such a bad reputation and it is not the dogs fault it is DEFINATLEY the OWNERS they get besten and attacked and horrible grousome things done to them by their owners to make them act that way. I think that the horrible people who do this to such a GREAT dog should be the ones banned NOT THE DOGS. If pit bulls are banned i will never own another dog. Pit Bulls are by far my most favorite dogs in the world. PLEASE DO NOT LET THEM BE BANNED. PUNISH THE DEED NOT THE BREED!!!
WHAT WILL BE THE NEXT BAD BREED? THE BEAGLE? THE CHIHAUHAU? THE LAB? THIS WILL NEVER END BECAUSE "EDUCATED PEOPLE" WILL ALWAYS BE LOOKING FOR A DOG TO BLAME.(BLAME THE DEED, NOT THE BREED!)
I am twenty-eight years old and the mother of three. We have a pit bull and a doberman, these two dogs are a gift from above. My pit saved my two years old life about a year ago by stopping her from entering a road way. These breeds are not a threat to any one, but people who try to pass these bills are. Offer classes for dog owners of these breeds and educate people who have the fear in them. People need to remember that a dog is a product of what it is taught. If we continue to allow people to base their opinions on false information, where will it end.
I have a pitbull he's six months old. and I love him more than anything. he is such a sweet dog and has shown no signs of aggression what so ever. these people are crazy for banning a breed of dogs. they wouldnt ban a race of humans. Dogs should be treated with the same respect.
My pitbull is an extremely intelligent and loyal pet who has never been aggressive toward anyone or anything. We should punish the thugs who are using this noble breed for there sick pleasures. My dog slept in the same bed with my sons as a puppy and is very well behaved around other dogs and humans. To ban this breed would almost be like racial profiling. Remember what happened in WWII with the nazis? My pitbull is my friend!
people that dont like this breed are golable vicktums to the news and goverment trying to gain populairy of a missresesented dog by banning the dog this waist money so even if you dont like this dog think about the millions being spent on this ban instead of other more serious problems how about a stiffining up of the police foarce so wen the burgler trys to break in your house you have more cops to help you and you can keep your dog that makes your house safer
How sad to punish the breed. They should punish the idiot people that raise them to be mean and fight. I have 2 very loving pit bulls that are my kids. I live in california and i'm sure they will try it here to.
The more states and legislators who propose such bans and buy into this ridiculous hysteria, will only lead to an increased desire for subhuman beings and criminals to seek out these animals and use them in ways to defy government authorities. The problems lie with the inbred behaviors of the human race, not the canine. Any person can choose to purchase a pitbull terrier, or a cocker spaniel for that matter, and train it to attack children, or other animals, OR, for those of us who are representative of the SANE human race, we can adopt these animals, provide loving homes and enrich our lives with the companionship of a great pet.
you get a few hooligans that know the history of this dog so they go out and obtain as many as possiable for the sole purpose of "fighting" them. These same people are also involved in more and often more serious crimes yet they still try to blame the dog. It is like a child, you raise a child in a bad environment and then wonder why the child grew up to be the way he is. The same with a dog, he is a reflection of his owner.
My fiancee and I adopted a pit bull that we found on the streets. He is the most loving, sweet, smart and affectionate dog I have ever seen. My girlfriends English Bulldogs pale in comparison to this dog's heart and love for his family. He is a part of our life and I cannot imagine life without him. Legislation should be strick, not just with pit bulls but with everybreed. Muzzles and a Leash are good ways of enforcing this. Destroying and banning altogehter a breed is not, and can be compared to what the Nazis did in WWII.
i agree you should not punish ANY breed of dog for their owners. i had a rottweiler and many of my friends own pit bulls all of them were very loving dogs. you need to punish the owners who train them to be mean, abuse them and use them as fighting dogs. the dogs and breeds are not the problem it's the people who own them.
This is horrible!!! I have a pit bull as a loving baby. He is the best, most loving, gentlest dog that I have ever had. He is going to be 4 this month and he is the best dog.. NO PROBLEMS EVER. I am TOTALLY against this stupid banning.
I think the law makers should be reminded that they are elected officials and they should find out what the people want.I have owned bulldogs my whole life and have never had one problem out of them.(unless you think getting licked to death a problem.Hold the owners responsible not the animals.
We will not go down without a fight. My Pit Bull is like my child. He plays, eats, and sleeps with us. When I wake up in the morning, his head is beside mine on my pillow. Any dog can be aggressive if they are made to be by their owners. Has anyone tried to pet a chihuahua (did I spell that right?) lately?
The legislature needs to focus more on sexual predators and child abductions rather than banning a specific breed of dog. Their service agencies need to promote education of responsible dog owners rather than punishment.
Banning pitbulls will only run the people that should be stopped underground. The breed is not the problem it is the owners that take small living being and throw out in the backyard and if the baby is lucky it gets fed and watered. It is never socialized or shown love and in the all too common cases with this breed, it is beat, starved and taught to fight for its very life and if it tries to get affection from the owner it is kicked in the head. PEOPLE are the problem not the breed or the responsible breeders. This bill will only hurt the people that want to do the best job they can with their breeding program and placing these babies in kind, loving homes.
Banning pitbulls will ONLY PUNISH RESPONSIBLE OWNERS. Those who are the problem - the irresponsible owners and those who breed and raise them with illegal intent - will continue to own and breed these animals outside the law. Is this what we really want? I, along with every responsible Pit/Staffy owner I know, do everything we can to protect our breeds' reputations by NEVER allowing our animal(s) in a situation where he/she would be encouraged to show aggression or be out of our control. Let's spend our time working on tougher legislation to vigorously prosecute those who do not properly handle or control their animals - ANY animals.
leave my dog alone he has never hurt anyone or anything he belongs to me and my three young children, Ban smoking in public it is more dangerous than pits any day how many people does that kill a year !!!!!!
The breed of animal is NOT the problem. It is the people who OWN them irresponsibly and the medias insistence on portraying this animal ONLY in an aggresive and violent manner.
Constant stories about only negative aspects of the breed only further its reputation as a "mean" dog, a "fighting" dog, thereby INCREASING its popularity for the unseemly owners who use this type of dog for fighting, etc.
Pit bulls, are smart, highly active, extremely trainable animals. They are not evil, aggresive beings whose sole purpose is to hurt other animals or people.
I would encourage you to consider running stories of a POSITIVE nature on pit bulls, or support legislative means, OTHER THAN AN OUTRIGHT BAN, to further educated the public about this breed.
Many things have been banned in this country, now and in the past---how well did that STOP the negative issue? Prohibition was real successful, huh?
Banning this breed will only punish the responsible, educated pit bull owners and give more credence to the underground faction by increasing this breeds "evil reputation".
Punish the DEED, not the BREED.
I just want to say that banning pitbulls is ridiculous. Most people have made pitbulls a stereotype. Yes there are some pitbulls that are vicious but that is because their owners are irresponsible and breed them for the wrong reasons. I have three loving and caring pitbulls that would never hurt anybody. In fact two of my pitbulls had been hurt by a wild hog. As they were getting stitched up by my neighbor they had a three year old boy in their face and all they did was lick him. So now tell me that all pitbulls are bad!
I can't believe this at all! I have an 8 year old pit from when he was a puppy. I have 3 SMALL children. He plays hide and seek and protects his sibblings from stangers. Why don't people judge the owners, not the dog. These innocent breeds are being punished when it's all about how you raise your dog, just as you rear your children. IT'S HOW YOU RAISE YOUR DOG!! OPEN YOUR EYES AMERICA!!!!!! WE HAVE A LOT MORE ISSUES TO DEAL WITH THAN TO HARRASS FAMILY PETS. It is unfortunate on the attacks on people. There's more to the story.
This ban is absolutely ABSURD!!! It's not FAIR that the pit bull breed is singled out, because of a few irresponsible owners. Gullible & taking the easy way out, this is what politicians are & do. They stereotype the pit bull breed with ignorance, and they are political leaders? If Georgia passes this ban it's committing animal genocide. Why not ban alcohol, so I don't get hit by a drunk driver!!! Politicians are not doing me any favors, in my best interest ..no wait, I get it $$$$.
I have three pit bulls. I have never had any problem with them. You cant use a breed of dogs as a reason for anything happening. The unresponsible owners are the problem. Pit bulls are sterotyped by ignorant people at all times.
EDUCATION - NOT LEGISLATION!
Increase the penalties for animal cruelty & neglect. Make dog fighting a penalty for which any assets may be seized.
Breed Specific Legislation is not the answer - enact reasonable and responsible vicious animal laws.
I own a pitbull and it sleeps with little kittens, plays with other dogs, and is the sweetest thing imaginable. The idiots that abuse pitbulls and provoke aggressive behavior should have more punishment other than a fine or couple months in jail. Charge them with assault charge them with something! Don't just blame the dog!
Our two American bulldogs are our family. They are the sweetest dogs ever. This law is ridiculous and unconstitutional. I have a better idea. Why not ban all dogs above 30 lbs? That way we'll all be safe from irresponsible dog owners.
Representatives Williams, Watson and Mitchell. You have no right to try and extent a breed of dog. I have owned pitbulls for 17 years. I even raised a 2 year old pitbull with my 6 month old daughter without incident. I have never had any of my dogs try and bite me or anyone else. Any dog has the potential to be vicious. Ex, I owned a Daschund and it bit my daughter on the leg, also a friends doberman tryed to bite her as well. So should we extent those 2 breeds as well. This law is ridiculous and I will do everything in my power to destroy this bill.
only ignorant morons believe everything they hear...Educate yourself before you open your mouth about "pitbulls"..The media loves to instill fear and confusion..sells air time and newspapers...Excuse folks make it your business to learn the truth....stepford thinking is very un-apealing....
According to a study by the HSUS and USDA, the majority of dog bites are from unneutered, male dogs regardless of breed and of those dogs the most bites come from those that are chained or have been force to live on a chain. This ban does not address the root cause of the problem which are the irresponsible people that own them, breed them and fight them.
According to the Journal Of American Medicine, 1,400 children per year are killed do to child abuse (usually at the hands of their own parents). Also accorning to the JAMA, 18 children per year are killed by dog bites (all breeds combined). The death of a child by any means is a dreadful event, but lets put more effort and resources into reducing the greater danger in this country, child abuse!
If they are going to exterminate Pit Bulls as a breed for being a menace to society they should also exterminate crack heads, gang members, child molesters etc... with out question! They give criminals second chances all the time, but politicians choose to punish an animal, who is the victim of criminals violence.
The premise of this bill is based on ignorance and misunderstanding. A breed is not inherently dangerous...it is, unfortunately, the human element involved in their lives that initiate and create the danger. Place penalties on vicious and individual acts of these animals. Banning "any dog displaying 'bulldog or pit bull terrier' breed's physical traits is like banning all black males between the ages of 18-25 since that demographic is most likely to be involved in criminal activity. It is ludicrous. Please take the time to learn about and be around these breeds before you try to crucify them. They are wonderful and loyal animals, full of life and personality.
Thank you.
I would like to see them try to enforce that law theres no way. Prosecute the idiots that fight them -they already have laws for that get out of my yard-
I raise pitbulls and theyre the sweetest, most intelligent, loyal dogs EVER, start making harsher punishments for the owners who train these dogs poorly!
Don't punish the breed for the mistakes of it's owner.Pits and other animals are just like children. However you raise them, that's the way they behave.I take care of a pit, she's never hurt anyone and is very friendly with others. She's a part of my family and I love her.For people to sterotype them as vicious is wrong. Not only that, but it's offensive to owners like me whose pit or pits were bought up the right way and is treated as a part of their family.
I have a pitt and she is very great with people especialy with kids people think that this type of bread is a very visious but i think that it is up to the way people raise them but that goes for any dog if you teach it to fight then yeah it will be ready to fight my opinion used to be the same that i used to think that this bread was very visious untill i got my sweet babay blue
THe breed should not take the penalty for a humans ill judgement and cruel abuse of training. Punish the people who bring the stereotype and create the negativity not the dog who is just performing in a manner becuase if a human. Dogs are train to be vicious.
DO NOT BAN these dogs, ban the people who are ignorant in the bringing up the breed. These dogs are great. I have owned a pitbull for seven years, never never had an issue with him.
These dogs are great pets and only seem to be associated with trouble when not raised properly. Any legislation should focus on the irresponsible owners, not the breed.
I have Pitt Bulls and they are a part of the family. Any kind of dog can be vicious depending on how you treat them. Go after the real threat (the owners!)
I have Pitt Bulls and they are a part of the family. Any kind of dog can be vicious depending on how you treat them. Go after the real threat (the owners!)
I have a chow. Is this breed next? Yes, pit bulls can be dangerous. But tell that to my Granddogs, pit bulls who love to sit in the lap of anyone who will pet them.
There are a lot of legislators out there who are not only dangerous, they steal and lie like rugs. I propose a bill that would allow the mean pitbulls and those legislators to be caged together and when the dust settles, we put them all to sleep!
Theses dogs are the worst breed! I got biten by a rabid pitbull! And had to get a shot in my stomach everyday for a month they are rotten animals. They should all be band in every state!!
I could train my lab to kill someone, but I don't. Give mean owners what they give there dogs that they mistreat. Pit-bulls are one of the smartest breeds that there is, and the only thing that would make them mean is to abuse them.
Owners should be held responsible for any vicious pet they own. That can be any breed of dog. By banning one breed, irresponsible and abusive owners are only going to start using another breed for their evil purposes. What then? Ban all dogs? I'd like to see a new bill that will stiffen the penalty of abusing dogs.
