I own one pitty mix and one Staff Terrier, both rescue dogs from our overcrowded shelters. One of my dogs was abused and had his ears cut off with scissors but he has been nothing but my best friend and loyal companion for the last 4 years. I love the breed, they are amazing.
Banning pitbulls will only make more outlaws cause only outlaws will own pitbulls, instead of the many responsible owners who will love take care of and raise their pitbull right.

There are alot of dogs that bite or cause problems. I cant even walk my dogs with out other dogs that are running loose run out at my dog trying to start something but my dog keeps walking without any fuss. The same dogs chase kids kill cats and run you back in your home but that is ok. a dog only does what he or she is taught and if some knuckle head TEACH his dog to bite well he shoulg be banned not the breed.
I have a pit bull myself and he is very loving, i feel this breed should not be banned nor have these types of regulations, i feel the owner should be banned if any problems arise not the breed.
I have a pit bull that is a therapy dog. These dogs can be however they are raised. The laws that are on the books already should be enforced. It is our constitutional right to be able to own whatever dog we desire to own. The emphasis should be placed on penalizing the negligent owners rather than the good, law abiding citizens who already have this breed and do right by the dogs and other citizens. I will have to move out of the state if the law is passed. We show our dogs UKC and go to nursing homes with them and are all around GOOD PET AND DOG OWNERS. Don't penalize the good people, punish the bad owners! PLEASE.

I have owned and bred the original BUll Dog for more than 30 years. Known to some as the American Pit Bull Terrier. And to even smaller sector as Pit Bull. A breed of dog that is highly decorated in the Military and other Government occupations. It is shameful on how this breed is being dramatized in the media and local government agencies. A wonderful breed, companion and family member of many homes around the world.
Pitbulls are what you make of them. Its how you breed them and teach them when they are small. I was terrified of them before I started raising them because of the way the media profiled them but they are the sweetest dogs you've ever met.

I have owned my pit bull for over seven years, and have never had a more loyal, lovable house dog in my life. Any laws against this hearty breed should be abolished. She has been loved and nurtured since birth and makes a great companion. Just like children, it is the upbringing that makes the end product. Punish bad dog owners, not good dogs.
I'm still morning the loss of my best friend; a red nose brindle Pit Bull named Scrappy. He was a fine ambassador of his breed and changed many peoples minds about Pit Bulls. He was rescued at 8 weeks from a life of pain and abuse. You see Scrappy was destined to be a champion fighter and line his owners pockets with blood money like his father did before him. My wife and I gave him a new life full of love and friendship. We raised him properly and although he looked intimidating he was gentile and sensitive. He was obedient to the extreme and loved children and cats. He was a fearless protector that would have given his life to protect the ones he loved (how many people can you honestly say that about). His mere presents kept my wife and I from harm more times then we'll ever know. The only times I ever saw him as much as show his teeth to a human where justified. Both times we where on vacation and someone was obviously casing us out with the possible intent to mug or car jack us. One look at him sent them packing. Somehow I doubt that any breed not on the “ban list” would have had the same effect. Scrappy met his end as the result of the second class treatment for a urinary infection the resulting complications he received from a vet who like many uneducated people feared Pit Bulls. Unfortunately we found out too late that that particular vet has a history of giving second class treatment to the all of the warrior breeds. By the time we figured that out and took him to a competent vet it was too late. The competent vet confirmed that if the proper action would have been taken by the other vet when we first brought him in he could have been saved. I'll never forget his last moments and the pain of making the decision to put him to sleep. It was more like deciding whether to euthanize an adopted son than a pet. He was holding on to life with every fiber of his being even with a burst bladder, complete renal failure, and blood work that

The media saw an oppurtunity to make for some great sensationalism by focusing on a few breeds,Pitt Bulls being a main one, and latching onto any dog bite report that came down the pike and running with it. If they would of reported on Poodle bites, ya think anyone would've given a shit? They knew it'd never fly. It wouldn't "sell." Whilst I am against breeding full sto, as there are so many dogs needing homes in shelters.. BAMBERG– A one-year-old boy died after he was mauled by four pit bulls in his home Saturday night, Bamberg County Sheriff Ed Darnell said Sunday.
Allen L. Young of 910 Sweetpea Road, Bamberg, died following the attack that occurred just after 10 p.m. Authorities believe the child died of multiple traumas to the head and body.
The victim’s father 25-year-old Michael Anton Young Jr., told deputies he had just moved in the mobile home where the incident occurred Saturday afternoon, according to a Sheriff’s Office incident report.
He said he put the child in bed around 10 p.m. before stepping outside the home to talk to his boss, who is also his landlord.
Michael Young said when he re-entered the home, everything was quiet, and he saw a few of the dogs exiting the bedroom. Young said he then saw his son on the kitchen floor, bleeding.
He and his boss transported the boy to Bamberg County Hospital, where Allen Young was airlifted to Palmetto Health Richland’s trauma center anddied just hours after the attack.
Allen Young’s body was sent to Newberry onSunday for an autopsy.
Michael Young told deputies the dogs were hitched outside at his mother’s house, where he last lived, and he was planning to hitch them outside his home the following day. He said his mother told him the dogs had to go with him when he moved, according to the report.
“He wanted toleave them until Monday,” Darnell said, when Michael Young said he would have time to chainthem outside.
But Darnell said by the time he was finished moving Saturday, Michael Young chose to keep the dogs in the house until the next day, according to his statements to authorities.
The S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control was contacted following the attack, and the dogs were euthanized by a Bamberg veterinarian before their heads were sent to DHEC for rabies testing.

My son has a pit bull and she is a wonderful dog. She is a loving dog and loves to give me kisses. When my son visits, Jazzy sleeps with me. If you ever have an opportunity to know a pit bull, you will love it. They are great pets.

There is no such thing as a bad breed just an irresponsible owner. Its not up to any person to ban an entire breed up dogs. Its not their fault they've got a bad rep. some people just don't teach them well.
What gets me is the only reason that pitbulls make such bad press is because the media doesnt tell you about bites from labs & other "non vicious" breeds. in my experience, its not the pit bulls, its the people who own them. it all depends on how they are raised. if you have an idiot that beats their dogs, of course they are going to end up turning on you and being aggressive. I have had my pit for 10 months now, and he is the sweetest most loving pit that I have ever seen. Our lab/whippit mix is the mean one, but hey thats just me. They can try to ban whatever they want to, but if they are actually able to do it, come hell or high water, they wont take my pit away from me.
I own three American Pit Bull Terriors which are very loving dogs. We have to start punishing the owners for the raising of these dogs and not the breed. They are not all bred to be killers.
