This whole thing is so typical of our society. It's not the first time we've put the blame on the blameless (witch trials, anyone??). I have a pup and go to dog parks all the time. I am amazed that the sweetest, gentlest, most human-loving dogs are the pits. Their wealth of affection is unbelievable. And counter the public's condemnation are the facts. Cocker spaniels - that is, COCKER SPANIELS - bite the most people per year. There are the facts and then there is the media slash public's emotional (illogical) choice to make pits represent fear and harm. They simply don't. Why don't we just burn the "owners?" Suggesting that to them would be ludricous. As ludicrous as their campaign against these helpless dogs that rate higher than golden retrievers on classic categories of companionship. The public is just searching for outlets for their fear and have found their new target. Put the darn muzzles on the people who raise dogs to fight! Stop them from breeding! They're the danger.
not only do i love pitbulls but,also my daughter has had a pitbull by her side since the day she was born and loves them to death.she's now nine the only dog that has ever snapped at her was a chihuahua her mom got.
I own 5 apbt and I know many people who have had the honor owning one, never in my life have I or anyone I know ever had a problem. It;s bad owners not bad dogs!
i own 2 pit bulls and they are the most beutifuls and lovely dogs. please don't forget those puppys don't ask to come in this world ,they have the rigths to live and let the people know they can be a nice dogs. thanks and god bless you.
The community needs to educate themselves in the breed before passing judgement and taking away our beloved pets! Please don't take away our extended family! I do however feel that you should go after the bad owners. Not just the bad owners of this breed but of all breeds! F.Y.I. This was America's poster child! Doesn't that mean anything?
It is not the breed of dogs but the people. These dogs can be loyal loving companions. This breed has a wonderful temperment and is often mistaken for other breeds when in fact - the "bad" ones are most probably not a APBT at all.
Man that's what's wrong with this World today no one wants to take responsiblity for anything, now we are to go as far as blaming a certain breed of dog instead of the irresponsable Human owners, pathetic!
Punish the owners of aggressive dogs. There is no way you can limit it to one breed. The research shows that labs and cockers are more likely to bite than an APBT.
Pit Bulls are not mean killers unless trained to be. Punish the people that abuse the animal to make it mean instead of putting a stigma on the whole breed.
A Breed Specific Ban is not the answer to the problem. The problems are from a few irresponsable owners and a breed ban will only hurt the responsable and law abbiding owners of this great breed of dog.
The answer could be a "dangerous dog" law where after a dog is proven to be vicious then the owner be given sanctions against their dog.
Banning the breed will NOT STOP THE DEED! Ban the owners who treat their dogs so shamefully! Send them to prison! Remove their right to own animals! THIS IS THE ONLY ANSWER! Banning the breed will only take these wonderful dogs from the owners that love them, the owners that abuse their dogs dont care if you ban them, they will continue to own them and abuse them and fight them anyway. They dont care that what they do is against the law. They care only for themselves. Please dont take my rights and the rights of other responsible dog owners away. We are not the issue at hand. The issue is the criminals!
I am 7 years old. I own 2 Pit Bulls. I have had 14 others. I love these dogs. they are my best friends. They love me and I love them. They are nice and sweet and very friendly. Please dont be mad at these dogs cause bad men and women have owned them, its not their fault. Please mister dont take away my puppies.

I am getting tired of signing these stupid things. Responsible dog owners should not have to defend their right to own dogs. Why not come up with some strict guidelines for the breeding of dogs period, not just pitbulls, since irresponsible breeders and owners are the root of the whole problem!!!
Bad owners make bad dogs.Good owners make good dogs.Not all APBT are bad.Punish the deed not the breed.I would have no other dogs around my kids but these.
Versus banning the dogs, I would prefer to ban the ignorant people that own them and TEACH them to be vicious, they are not a vicious animal by nature.
My brother is a US Marine, and is currently in Fallujah fighting for our freedom. That freedom that he's risking his life for is supposed to allow us to choose the breed of dog we want to own.
I used to believe the negative hype about pit bulls until I got to know more about the breed. Just because there are a few irresponsible owners who don't care for and train their pets correctly doesn't mean that all pit bulls and their owners should be punished.
