It is not the breed, but the way these dogs are raised by irresponible owners that cause negative impresions. Any dog will be vicious if trained to become so.
make a drivers licenze or something to own a dog or dogs but do not take the opurtunity to kill a breed or breeds so that our children can not experience this joy.
One of the sweetest most loyal and intelligent dogs I've ever had was a pit bull I'd rescued from an abusive household. Aggressively prosecuting people who abuse or criminally neglect dogs would go a long way towards diminishing the problem of aggressive animals.
This is ill considered legislation.
I'm a hard working family man and I love the American Pit Bull Terrier. And I know there are many more who love them just as much as I do. I strongly disapprove of Breed Specific Legislation or anything like it.
I think that banning pit bulls is a huge step in the wrong direction. If any steps need to be taken, then the owners who use their pits in any unlawful manner should be punished to the fullest extent of the law.
Why don't they start by NEUTERING the irresponsible dog owners! Dogs are like people, they need love too. A puppy nor a child cannot learn what is not taught!
Most dogs have the same physical traits as A.P.B.T.'s. does that mean poeple in favor of bill are willing to give up their English bulldog (UGA Dog)J.R.T.,Boxer, Schnauzer,SharPei, Rhodesian Ridgeback... and the list goes on.
This ban is just another example by the government to place blame for a problem on the easiest and wrong party. To think a domesticated Dog is born with the ability to make the determination that a human being is a sworn enemy or a good food supply is completely ridicules. Anyone who feels that way should really think about returning to an institution of higher learning and enroll in a few Biology courses. I would have hoped we had government representation that was not so ignorant but I guess that is too much to ask for.
My name is Chacie and i have a pit mix as well as two small children (ages 2 & 3) and we couldnt be happier, she (Faith our pit) is THE most wonderful dog ever, i couldnt see having to get rid of her or not be able to have her because of a law that is based on mis-information.
Hugs,
Chacie
I oppose banning specific breeds. It is time that irresponsible dog breeders and owners are held accountable. It is also important that the general public be educated about the responsibilities of caring for and socializing the dogs they own.
I think Georgia should make people get licenses for they're dogs, this would stop a lot of the breeding and keep track of the animals. To say this breed should be banned is wrong. A dog is what it's owner makes it and has nothing to do with breed!
I had the privledge to care for a pit bull for one week. It was very affectionate to both humans and animals. She loved to be around people and other dogs.Seh is very sweet. Please don't do this to this woderful breed.
No dog comes onto this earth to be bad-they are animals, and an animal's behavior comes from its environment-with a domesticated animal that comes from their owner-no bad dogs-just bad owners
Leave these awsome dogs alone already!
Isn't there something more important to do?! Get a hobby. The people that want to ban pitbulls are VERY evil people. Get it though your skulls that it is NOT the pitbulls fault, it is the OWNERS fault.PEOPLE ruin everything.
Don't blame a breed of animal because of the ignorance and stupidity of the owners. If any action should be taken regarding this and other breeds that government agencies and legislators have deemed dangerous, is register the OWNERS and require them to be examined and their homes inspected to determine if they would be capable to own such animals. Then ENFORCE and PUNISH the OWNERS who violate the conditions not the animal.
And this is soppuse to be America... land of the free..right? How is that when we cannot even chose what we do with a certain breed of pit bulls..what about every other breed of animal..snakes can be more harmful than "man's best friend".
Legislating for the lowest common denominator and not holding bad owners responsible is insane. What is needed is clear, enforceable laws that are directed at irresponsible owners, not at a specific kind of dog. How about banning the animals who leave their dogs chained in the back yard?
I have two pit bulls and they are the sweetest dogs ever!! The dogs learn how to behave from their owners..if you raise your dog to fight and be mean, the dog will...the punishment should be harsher for the owners of pit bulls who cause problems! Not every dog needs to be muzzeled--that's rediculous!!
Don't Ban pitbulls thats so so stupid!
I love the dogs so much but it's how the owners raise them and they don't hurt nobody if so it's because they're scared!!!!!!!
I have had the chance to be around many pit bulls over the past 3 years and have found that they are great pets! They are completely loyal to their owners - but it is the owner's choice of upbringing that inhibits what kind of dog it turns out to be. Just like kids. I think you should have the right to have one and the ones who violate the rules by bringing up a mean dog should be punished harsher!
I always thought these dogs were dangerous until I purchased one this weekend. I am now 110% in love with my dog now. They are so sweet and playful, I can't imagine not having him with me. Make the abusers pay, not the caring owners or the loving dogs.
What an absolutely ridiculous house bill! You Georgian's out there should be calling and/or emailing your State Representative and let them hear why they should not vote for HB 78!!!
It's the owners who train their dogs to fight who should be outlawed. I Owned a pit bull from puppyhood, and he was a loving and loyal dog and best friend to my children.
Blaming the dog for the irresponsiblities of the owner is like blaming the alcohol instead of the drunk driver. It's all in the way something is used. Animals that are raised properly are a boon to the community, just as a mistreated animal of any breed will eventually be a burden upon the community in which it lives. A law banning pit bulls (or any other specific breed) will do nothing to solve the problems of dog viciousness or fighting.
I lived in Georgia until 2003 with two American Staffordshire Terriers. I visited friends and relatives in Georgia for several days last year and brought my dogs with me. This bill would make it impossible to do that in the future. Elected legislators do not have the right to restrict the mobility of law-abiding citizens!
Our two pit bulls are two of the best dogs that I have ever been around; yet they both have two distinctly differnt personalities. They're in no way dangerous dogs. It's all in how they are raised. Punish the masters, not the dogs.
I have two pit bulls and they are wonderful pets to have. Pit Bulls get thier dangerous reputation because of how thier owners raise them not from thier breed.Maybe passing a law concerning thier treatment would be better served.
I'm a Veterinarian Assistant working on my Associate Degree for Veterinarian Technician. I feel that this law is rediculous. Pits can be the most loving pet if raised and treated right. If they are going to ban a bredd based on what it was bred for, then they need to ban other breeds as well. There are many breeds that were raised for fighting besides pitts. I'm planning on doing my research paper on this and if any one has any ideas or valuable info please let know!! Good luck to those than own pitts. I feel that this state should focus on more important laws like D.U.I and abuse.
These are great loyal and loving dogs. I volunteer for shelters and Pit Bull's are by far my favorite breed. There needs to be more education for the public so ban's will not be an issue.
This would be an unfair law. Not all pit bulls are bad dogs, and not all bad dogs are pits. It would be better to target efforts at enacting/enforcing animal cruelty laws and stopping dog fighting.
What makes you think you could actually enforce the law when you can't even force the laws about dog fighting to begin with. The stupid people that are fighting the dogs are the problem NOT the breed. I bet if dog fighters went to jail for a few years and had HEFTY fines you would see a decrease in the problem. How about being part of the solution not part of the problem.
