This feature is needed. The sender feature is useless if it's not sending the headers correctly. I tried it, thought it was going to be great, and then found this out. bummer...
Please... Use the X-Sender header instead, or any other header so anyone looking for Spammers can identify the source, but the way it currently works, I had to switch my e-mail addresses back out of GMail :(
it ruins my ability to set up a client of mine with multiple email accounts with the one Gmail one and Outlook 2003 to manage their mail (and other office utilities). I'm closely watching Google's handling of Writely, Google Calendar, and of their online spreadsheets as an online replacement to MS Office, but for now I must have them use Outlook for its integration with their finance software and client database.
I understand the spam-fighting motivation, but this kills the utility of the system for me. I would be willing to validate my identity in some other way to enable this feature.
The 'on behalf of' line serves no purpose except to enable less tech-savvy spammers to get ahold of your e-mail address with no effort. Please change this!
because the rest of Gmail's feature offerings are excellent, but I won't be using it until this is implemented. Revealing my core address makes it impossible/difficult to reply to mailing lists, subjects your core Gmail username to potential spammers, and detracts from my credibility sending from addresses which I have already confirmed as accounts belonging to me.
Gmail is perfect for me but I can't use it without this feature. Even if it was part of a paid-for business flavour of Gmail, I would sign up (and pay up) immediately.
