I want the public of Ontario (and canada) be aware of what is happening at the GO Transit parking lots. Its a haven for car vandalism and thefts. We pay such a high cost to use GO Transit, they need to increase security!!!

Below is the email that was sent out to all leading media type to make them aware of what is happening at GO Transit parking lots.

Hi,

I am writing after months of hoping that the epidemic of car vandalism at GO parking lots would
stop. It has not and GO transit does not do anything about it, just gives out cliched answers to their customers. Enough is Enough and I think its high time something is done and the public knows what actually happens everyday at the GO Parking lots.

My car (honda civic) has been broken into 5 times
since March 2004. Twice at Malton and three times at Bramelea GO station. I thought it was just a random act the first time it happened (at that time they stole the car deck). A few weeks later they break in and break the club on the car, take it for a spin, bring in back (I think I was low on fuel, thank god) and then they destroy the steering wheel leaving the car undrivable. My car was gone for 3 weeks to be fixed. After that I thought maybe its a MALTON GO station problem. I switched to the BRAMLEA GO STATION.

On both occasions at Malton go station there were
other cars broken into and vandalized.

Within a week the thieves strike their again. This
time they take my sunglasses, mats. By this time I had installed a imbolizer car alarm. The third time they had learnt to opened the hood to turn the alarm off and then do their shopping in my car as they know there is no body at these GO parking lots.

The fourth and fifth time they break in and by this time there is nothing left in the car to take. Both times they disconnect the car battery to turn the alarm off. Unfortunately they didnt find anything to take with them. I should thank them for not destroying it like they did the second time at Malton.

Go Transit and The cops are aware of all my break ins.

Go transit CEO responds after two months of writing to him and comes up with that cars can be broken into anywhere. Well, my car has NEVER been broken into except for when it is parked at the GO PARKING Lots.

The Bramlea GO Station has 2 cameras to monitor over a 1000 cars. It is just unbelievable. But when it comes to jacking up the fares they dont think twice about it. I wonder where all that money goes. Obviously not to security at GO parking lots.

Maybe GO transit does not care and knows that people will take the GO as it is cheaper than driving with such expensive gas prices. If the GO charges $170 per month for monthly pass from Bramlea to Union they should offer more than random security checks at their parking lots.

I will be writing to my MP, all leading media, the
minister of transport. If I have to open a website for people to be aware of this epidemdic I will do that. I thought GO would do something to fix the problem, but they have not.

680news ran news updates on this story today (August 18, 2004) from 6am onwards as they were at the Bramlea Go Station. In todays (Aug 18.2004)Toronto's Sun on page22 there is an article written up. I was on CFRB1010 AM show on Aug19 at 12am. MetroNews will be doing an article in this weeks edition. (Sept 1,2004 edition)
