On their American Idiot album, their songs have gone a bit emo, but they are still punk-sounding. Lots of people said they are "punk rock and they are the god fathers of punk" and all, but others said they are "pop punk".


Lets settle this issue once and for all right here. Are Green Day, punk or pop punk, or some other genre? Your opinions here.

1st of all, whether or not Green Day is punk is irrelevant to the fact that they\'re amazing. They simply have good rock songs. As far as genre goes, I think they used to be punk, but their sound has changed a lot since dookie days. Now, they\'re more straight up rock. What the **** is alternative rock anyways? **** that ****. Green Day is a rock and roll band. Anybody who says they suck, or that they\'re ****ing \"pop\" is a faggot and they can go suck their own dick.

Green Day is pop. Punk is suppose to be fast and rude. If you really think that GD is punk, you are propably: 1. 12year old girl 2. Fukin poser. I\'ve listened to Dead Kennedys, Misfits, Ramones, Terveet Kädet... etc. since I was 10 so I know what Im talking about.

They\'re both Punk rock and Pop punk. It depends on the song. Some of the songs are Punk rock, such as Longview, Geek Stink Breath and St. Jimmy, while others are Pop punk, such as She, Redundant and ¡Viva La Gloria!. They even have some Alternative rock songs, such as Warning, Whatsername and 21 Guns.

Well, I for one am a 13-year-old girl who likes Green Day. =D With that in mind, you may all pass over my post as stupid and immature, but I believe Green Day to be a rock band with pop-like melodies. But I feel the rock-like drumming is very... well, rock-like. But on the other hand, I also think Green Day isn\'t really \"punk\". They really are too mainstream, real \"punk\" doesn\'t really exist anymore. But then, if you look at their interviews, their original target audience with American Idiot and such was the teenagers of America, so in a way they\'re not really claiming to be hardcore punk. ....They\'re still rock, though. Apart from Nimrod and Warning, those were a bit more weirdish.

Anyone who disses Green Day and says they are emo or that they suck is a fag. Green Day doesn\'t have a particular genre of music, but it mostly revolves around punk, punk/rock, etc etc. All that matters is that they are the best. Nothing else. And Vincent, and whatever the hell the other guys name is, and to anyone else who has a problem with Green Day, no one cares what you have to say. No one likes you, and if you were smart, you\'d shut up. And if a 13 year old girl says she likes Green Day, that just means she\'s smarter than dumb ****s like you. Green Day isn\'t and has never been a ****ing true punk band. They are way too mainstream. They aren\'t even pop punk. the Godfather of Punk is Iggy Pop. Not Green Day. And to say Green Day influenced bands like Goldfinger and blink-182 makes me ****ing sick. First off, Goldfinger sounds nothing like Green Day. Goldfinger is a ska punk band; there\'s no trace of ska in Green Day. And blink-182 formed in 1992, 2 years before Green Day really got success with their Grammy (I\'m not a blink fan just to let you know; they aren\'t punk either). Want to know punk? Ramones, Misfits, Pennywise, Dead Kennedys, Bad Religion, Nofx, Rancid, Anti-Flag; those are a few punk rock bands. Yes, Green Day might do what they want to, just like every other ****ing music artist. Eminem does what he wants to, does that make him make punk rock music? **** no it doesn\'t! Now if you say they are punk rock, I really want to here what you have to say because you have to be ****ed in the head to think that. Green Day is Punk/Rock/Grunge/Soft Metal. Then, they have songs like Time of Your Life, which show a softer side to the band.

Actually, green day are more to the pop punk genre. They are the punk bands that fused punk with light-hearted pop melodies. There is no more real punk since ramones and sex pistols. But green day are definitely one of the best band in the world right now.
