Skateboarding is one of the fastest growing sports in america. skateboarders are both male and female, ranging in age from 5 years until late 50's on average; they come from every possible race and background and skate throughout every season regardless of the weather. according to the Sporting Goods Manufacturing Association, 16 million skateboards live in the US-this compared to 9 million that play little league. yet haddonfield has at least 6 baseball fields and no skateboard parks. Currently, the only place in haddonfield that skateboarders are "allowed" to skate at is the central middle school parking lot. we feel that the kids in this town deserve to have an alternative sport other than public sidewalks, parking lots and the church steps. most every other sport is recognized in haddonfield whether it is a field, court, playground or backstop. We have a few places in mind that would be excellent sites for a public concrete skatepark, most notably the abandoned pool off of reillywood ave. this venue is an ideal size, is in a good location, and a wonderful way to recycle and reuse something that has not been functioning for many years. please allow us the opportunity to discuss this prospect further, and help enable our town's children-and children at heart-to enjoy the sport in a safer and more enjoyable manner. thank you
