REACH is a new piece of European legislation setting standards on the testing of chemicals. It means Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of CHemicals. This means we will know which chemicals are safe and which are toxic. This is, of course, necessary for us to safely use chemicals in a responsible manner. But by no means is this responsible.
REACH wants to make animal testing (aka Vivisection) a standard necessity for chemicals in the Europe. This means that cruelty-free companies like The Body Shop and Red Star Soaps will HAVE to test ingredients on animals. NO CHOICE. Its ridiculous. Even people who believe in vivisection have to admit the best option is one benefitting humans AND animals. This means humane alternatives. Computer modelling is a good one, or human tissue could be collected from that organ donor scheme. This doesn't hurt anyone, does it?
Did you know... if you put two cards marked SAFE and TOXIC in a box, then pick one out at random, it is at least twice as likely to predict the safety of a chemical than vivisection. Do your maths; thats a 50% chance, versus the 5-25% chance vivisection offers. Sounds mad, but its actually true.
Did you know... bleach is a severe irritant to human skin, but a mild irritant to rabbit skin, so thats no good, is it? Also, penicillin is fatal to guinea-pigs, but saves human lives every day. If we rely on vivisection much longer, many more human lifesavers could be lost.

You know it makes sense, sign my petition.

We would like:

a) for you to not do this part of REACH requiring vivisection. I really don't think it is fair on anyone.

b) an increase in humane alternatives to vivisection used.

c) perhaps an incentive for animal friendly companies, like a small tax deduction or cash grant. It would help, certainly.

Thanks:)

It's the 21st century, find other ways, don't subject poor animals to more painful tests.

I agree with Georgina on this, vivisection is not just cruel on animals, it's killing human lives too, it's pointless! Please can people sign this petitionand help make the world a better place for everyone?

I made it and I'm signing it ok? It sounds silly to sign your own petition, but everyone else does it, so its one more signature right. And in reply to Ummm: if they already know why do they need to test it again?

Actually, I'm pretty sure scientists know what animals react to what chemicals. Your argument is worthless.
