I support this petition. This is stupid! Can't teens have a life? They hang out with their friends at the mall. Whats next? Not letting us go for walks without a parent? Maybe if the kids were under the age of 12, but 18, thats too much.
I think this is a great rule! It's keeping the kids out and bringing back shoppers who are actually going to spend money. The mall is not for loitering and hanging out it's for shopping!
This rule is rediculas! Just because a couple of kids cause just a little trouble here and there, Dosent mean that you should ban the entire age group/generation of kids

I live in Agawam Ma. and i go to the mall all the time, and yeah i see some stupid kids who cause trouble but thats like once every 3 or 4 imes i go, yeah who cares still keep some of the security there, so if there are any kids there doing what they arent supposed to they can kick them out but dont punish every kid who is under 18 for what some group of like 4 kids is doing that is just completely outrageous and unfair to everyone. I am only 13 and i see that yeah kids my age do cause trouble but come on, we are kids and we hafta learn at some time what not to do so just keep security at the mall, and let every one in, and if there are anyone misbehaving then have security kick em out its not hard to do.
We are from Vermont;we went to the Holyoke Mall to go Chistmas shopping. My daughter who is nineteen and a sophmore in college was walking with her cousin who is twelve. They were stopped by a security guard. She was very rude to them, got in my daughter's face, literally, and asked if she knew what the policy was in the mall? Of course she said no. I mean how would anyone know about a policy like this one? It's outrageous!!!!!! My daughter was held there, (remember she is 19,and legal age in this country is 18) until my sister, who is the mother of my daughter's cousin, and I got there.Although my sister asked for an explanation of the policy, she received only a description of it--not the REASON why the policy is in place. I agree with the petition but would also like to know why such a policy is in place. Maybe I should contact the ACLU about this. I wonder if the policy can be upheld on mall property because it is private?
i think this is not right because i am 17 years old and i know when i was younger i use to have some fun but still this "18+ only in mall" should not be liable to all teens atleast because thats is the main profit that the mall makes the mall has many children coming to the mall and asking for clothes and many other things and i know that there are many of them because i use to go to the mall many times a week but now i dont go because of the harrasment from the security gaurds there i understand that i am a under age adult but still that is not right for cops to think that i am a thief i wear baggy clothes but i go to GED and i work for youthbuild Nueva esperanza located at main street of holyoke massachusetts i have done many community service projects and planning on going to college i didnt do all this just to go to the mall and be followed by cops and i do not agree with that i also have a poem i would like to enter wich adds to this topic wich if any body would like to read it e-mail me at nictorius2003@Yahoo.com i will introduce every one to what i think is wrong and right
because it is not fair that people under the age of 18 should be excluded from the mall. i am 17 years old and very independante, i cannot be bringing my mother or any other person over 18 do do or get what i need to get.
Not everyone is a trouble maker, i would consider this underage discrimination, but then again it is a private place but still the mall has been for all ages for awhile and its been fine, just ban the ones that are horrible.
it is unfair to ban people from shopping!! i think that most people are mature enough to take responsibility for our own actions. people under the age of 18 cant do a lot of things but shopping shouldnt be one of them. if we can be trusted with a car at 16 shouldnt we be able to handle ourselves while shopping??
I support this petition because having the holyoke mall only opened for people over 18 on certain days is so stupid. Just because we are young it doesn't mean that all of us shoplift. Just punish the people who do and don't make all of us pay for it. What are we supposed to do on rainy days? What if we don't have anyone who is 21 or older be able to go with us to the mall? You also have to think about the stores and how much money they are loosing for us not being there as much as we used to be.
I support this petition. However, I must point out that a mall is not a public place. It is a private place. In fact, people get banned from such places all the time and if they come back, they can be sued for tresspassing. Technically, if they simply refuse to leave on the occasion when they are told that they are banned, this is not tresspassing (it is only next time they return) but of course, management can make them leave by calling the police. It may be possible to argue in court that a whole class of citizens are being persecuted but the fact is that legally, being on private property is a privilege similar to an invitation, and the owners can decide whom to invite. As for the money, maybe they thought that a quiet mall will attract more people with money, as teenagers are often on a limited budget. Business is not about fairness. A business can decide to no longer cater to the kind of customers who bring in less money even if they do spend there. However, teenagers can make the rule hard to enforce by making sure lots of them always go there when they are not supposed to. The mall can't afford to hire enough staff to prevent them from doing so or to slow everybody down at the door. Try to find as many teenagers as possible to go there for a few days in a row, or several thousands on one day (but without creating trouble or being obviously together) and see what happens. By the way, you don't have to show ID, tell your name or address, etc. if you don't want to except that of course, mall personnel don't have to let you in either (even if you do). If you don't refuse to leave, they can't arrest you, and if you come back a few days later, you can just pretend it wasn't you even if they know you are lying.
this is absurd. First they say it scares away older people. I'm pretty sure older people will buy regardless of young people being there. The young people never scared me. I'm pretty sure its safe with all the cameras and security there. I think with all those cameras and security they should go after the people when they actually do something. I went by myself and was kiced out even after buying. Plus aren't they wasting money with hiring all these extra unnecssary security just to check i.d. I think its just discrimintion because they think if a kid is wearing baggy clothes and a fitted he is in a gang.
Believe it or not there are actually teenagers that go to the mall intending to buy stuff. If those kids don't want to go with their parents then they shouldn't have to be punished. Some peoples parents have this thing i like to call a JOB and cannot take there kind because of work related issues. Is it so bad that american can't trust the youth of today?? If you think about it we are all alot better than teens from the 60s, 70, and maybe even the 80s. I mean none of us are sanding outside in protest ( I can arrange this). I mean how many teens come into you mall and commit violent acts??? I dont. And if you have a shop lifting problem that is what detectors are for and cameras, if anything its the fault of the workers for not keeping an eye on the teens.
teenagers don't go to the mall to buy shit, they go to loiter and break shit. if the teenagers are little bastards in holyoke, they shouldn't be in the mall
I think that they need to leave us kids 18 and younger shouldn't be band from the mall and im not gonna swear or make myself swaer but if u could see the anger ughh
I support this petition. This is absolutely crazy...I've never even heard of anything like this around my area, because we'd never allow it. There'd be riots! I think the mall should be happy with the way whoever created this petition handled this, just choosing to get people to sign a petition, instead of turning violent, and should realize that this ban would be absolutely stupid. Sure, we cause trouble, but, what's that mean? Do we get banned from every place...movies, restaurants...? Most stores in a mall as it is are advertising toward this crowd, so the mall would suffer.
I support this petition and i believe that this mall is using discrimation. I truely feel that this is a slap in the face to everyone 18-. I am from another state, but this sickens me. I feel that this would be the same as saying no black people or no one 67+(pardon my own discrimation). Many stores target teenagers as the primary their customers. Profits from their businesses will drop. Last time I checked malls was a place of business. This curfew took place because of displinary problems. Well the mall is a place where teens can stay out of trouble. I believe that put this curfew in effect can cause the good/behaved teenagers to fall in bad crowds.

To be honest with you this ****ing rule can kiss my ass! I use to go to the mall every weekend. To either shop or chill. Now i have to go under adult supervision. you've got to be kidding me!! I have never seen anyone do anything wrong whenever i was there. anyway i'm saying that that this rule is not cool and should be changed immediately. Excuse me language for this but this is just pissing me off
I think it's ridiculous that it's eighteen and over, they're going to lose so many sales, I mean how many elderly people are actually going to go shopping at seven p.m. or later?
yeah, it doesn't make sense at all.
Yes its true that teen get out of hand in malls because its a place without direct parental supervision. Not all teens should be band from malls.....The ones that are seen doing something wrong should be banned, not the one that just go to shop or hang out!!!
ya i deffinately dont agree with the 18+ rule i went to the holyoke mall to get christmas presents and birthday presents for family and freinds and they kicked me out because i wasnt 18 and i wasnt with someone that was 18 it was bull but whatever they can loose all their service and business because even tho i love that mall ill never go bak again
I was there just the other day and there was no need to have it 18 plus on friday and saturday, plus won't the buisness' lose A LOT of money? I think they should pay less rent to rent out a spot there now because they've just been cut off from a huge buying market on huge buying days.
I THINK THIS IS A GREAT IDEA!!!! I am 22 years old and I am a full time college student and work a full time job so I don't have tons of time to do things or relax But I do enjoy going to the mall every once in awhile. I go to RELAX and purchase things I need. What I do not enjoy is a bunch of KIDS cursing, yelling, spitting over the railings, throwing things, fighting and making out. I also don't enjoy hearing racial, sexist or other close-minded/ignorant things. This is a time for me to do something I want to do when I have the time and I should be able to enjoy it instead of getting upset and having to leave before finishing all my shopping!! They need to enforce it stronger than they are now. Yes, when I was that age I far from being an angel but I realize now how disrespectful I was directly or in-directly to people and I want to avoid from being disrespected!!
On Friday 12-2-05 I made a trip to the mall. I am 18 but my brother who came with me is 14. Upon entering, mall security approached and asked for I.D. I was allowed to enter the mall, however since I am not yet 21 I could not escort my 14 year old brother. It's not like I was bringing 6 or 7 people, it was one person and he was my brother! How is it that at 18 you are allowed to join the military, purcahse tobbacco products, play the lottery, hold a drivers license, vote, apply for credit and loans, but you are not able to escort someone under 18 in the mall?!?
