YEA RITE like that will ever work i mean come on you could still have a parent bring you into the mall and then you and your friends can go off and shop by yourself then your parents can go shoppin in their stores i mean even if they do make that rule WHICH WOULD SUCK there are so many ways around it it will NEVER work im not goin with my mom peace out and oh yea the guys at the mall is on CRACK!

This is a poorly thought out plan by Mall representives, and is not necessary for 15 and above teens; this age group, who at least half of the mall's stores focus on luring in with their music, style - sales persons mirrowing them, are the shoppers. As a parent, I have no desire to go into those stores and would rather my son/daughter go in there with friends to pick out their clothing; anything inappropriate, I take it back myself. How ironic it is that they decided to implement these new rules after school has started; I echo another who responded - to boycot the mall. There are plenty of outlets which cost less with same brands, where a parent would not have to listen to the music, and could actually hold a conversation with thier I would agree with the guidelines for children under the age of 14, but that should be for supervision at all times in the mall; for thier own safety. Yes, I go to the mall with my teens; we splinter off and meet up; but I do not want to, nor do they want me to go with them every time they want to shop.

Come september school starts up and friday night is when all the kids go to hang out and actually have time. The older people should not be afraid to shop because we are there...they shouldnt even be shopping in the same stores as us anyway. The mall is the one place we can hang out walk around and have a good time and don't NEED to spend money.

A law is only as goood as the way it is inforced. And this law is never going to work and it is abserd for the mall to even put this law into effect. They are ruining the mall for basically there largest target market because no kid wants to go to the mall with there parents i mean its a place where they cna go and chill and shop. And just becuase of a couple of bad seeds we all have to suffer and that is not fair they should reconsider there plan of attack of reducing the mayhem that has plagues its building as of yet because this is the wrong way to deal with this issue. They will loss alot of money if this is put into effect as well and i doubt and store owners can afford that at all.

#768

Erica said 07/14/05, 6:14 pm (verified)
thats a real smart idea? how are they gonna monitor that? isn't the mall a public place? i'm sorry but when i need to go buy clothes i'm gonna do it when i need too, and i dont need my mommy or daddy with me. i pay for my own clothes thank you and i drive to the mall myself. therefore i have a right just like everyone else. so lets cut the crap and start being realistic here. if someone is causing a problem and needs to be kicked out of the mall, than kick them out or call their parents or let security handle it. not punish everyone else for some irresponsible people's mistakes. and isn't that called discrimination? sounds like it huh? yeah...its a bad idea. if i need to go there, i'm going there anytime i want. peace.

I have nothing against teens in general. I just can't stand the losers that have no social life or athletic ability and therfore have to roam the mall for entertainment.
#766

Marc Pavone said 07/14/05, 6:14 pm (verified)
Steve Socow hit the nail on the head, the mall is PRIVATE PROPERTY. They have no obligation to be babysitters for children of lazy, irresponsible parents. Some teens are well behaved, some even have more money to spend than I do, but it is the few who can't behave in public who have ruined the malls. The malls are NOT "supposed to be a place where you can meet up with friends and possibly buy something." Malls are there to sell merchandise and make money, NOT entertain you. If you want a place to wander around, meet your friends and possibly buy something, hang out in a park, or on the local hipster street. Oh, by the way Mr. Bennet. Since teens 18 years or younger don't have any legal rights as adults, the mall is NOT infringing on their right to be free in this country. What about MY rights (I am an adult) to take my son shopping in SAFETY, free from gangs of rude and beligerent children? I whole heartedly approve of this action.

Danielle said 07/14/05, 6:14 pm (verified)
Hello Im 22 years old and I think the Holyke Mall is going about this all wrong. What they should do is have a few dozen patrollmen and have them escort out all of the bad seeds that might swear or cause trouble and ask them to leave. Leave the well behaved kids alone. I used to go to shop by myself when I was unber 18, if I was asked to leave because I wasnt 18 I would feel really bad. It's not fair to everyone, think about it.

this is nonsense teens under 18 shoudla hve the ability to go to mall no matter what time . they go to hna gout with their friends, shop, have fun away from their parents and everything else. you cant take htat away from them.Half of teens today have jobs( as i do myself ) in which they dont get out of work until maybe 5-7 at night. The last thing that teens 15-17 want to do is go to the mall with their friends and ahve to be "escorted" by their parents. its ridiclous. The malls get most of their money from the teens these days and the stores that is targested for teens are going to go down in business only becuase you took away their only time to go to the mall and ahve fun. If you take away the mall after 4 pm for teens they are only going to go to other places and cause even more problems and get into other things. If you do, do this ... the mall will be just about bare on friday & saturday nights. and you'll regreat making this ridiclous move.

I don't agree that teens aren't going to be allowed on weekend nights. If the mall has enough money in their budget for extra security for the doors, then maybe it could be used elsewhere without the new policy being implemented. On the other hand, after reading some of these petitions maybe these teen's time is better spent learning to spell.

I am a mom of 5 children. The youngest two being 12 and 14; and I am Absolutely appauled that our youth is being treated like 2nd class citizens! My 14 yr old daughter goes to the mall to shop. If by chance she sees a friend or two she, they might stop and chat for a bit or even get a bitte to eat. My son however does like to go to the mall to see his friends. Since Rock n' Rollerskate had closed, its the only way for him to see his friends. Besides what are they supposed to do with the arcade when all the kids are gone! He even gpes to see his cousins girlfriend when hes bored, rather than start trouble! Im sure children pretten and teen do act up a bit...but why do they all have to be at fault. Is it that Ingleside really just wants to save on sucurity budget by eliminating all of the kids with out parents so that they won't have to protect the mall! I watch over my kids by teaching them right from wrong, AND WHEN I THINK THE ARE OLD ENOUGH,THEY ARE OLD ENOUGH! I do not however watch them by sitting at the next table as them, watching them and there 12-14yr old freinds talk. SO as you can tell my family will be shopping at the Eastfield MAll if Ingleside follows throughnwith all this crap!

I think that the mall is making a mistake by making teens have an "escort" at the mall. I know that when I go to the mall I go to shop with friends and not cause problems or make a scene. The few kids that are doing that should be the ones being punished but not everyone else. Also, I think certain stores are going to have a problem with this because they are going to loose a lot of their business on the weekends now with this new rule. I'm not saying it’s a bad thing to have to go to the mall with your parents but on the weekends kids like to hang out with their friends and have time to themselves so they go to the mall to shop and hang out which is a pretty harmless thing if they aren’t disturbing anyone. Kids aren’t going to want to walk around with their parents. So, I think this is going to compel teens away from the mall and possible force them to go to different places over the weekend that’s only going to create more problems than if they are to just go to the mall and shop with their friends.

I live in Longmeadow and hate shopping at the mall. Most of the teens smell pretty bad and the language they use is just foul. Kids from the Springfield and holyoke are pretty scummy. Some look like homeless bums looking for a handout. Run the little rodents out of the mall.

I really believe that this is unfair to do to the 16 - 18 yr olds. Punish the ones that lay on the floor, run through the mall and are disruptive. I can honestly say that I have seen these things. But don't punish the entire group of young adults. I will not be shopping at the Holyoke Mall after September 9th and I hope that a lot of people boycott the mall. I don't understand how you can say that this won't turn into profiling. It most definetly will. How can it not? If my daughter walks into the mall alone or with a friend and they look over 18, will they get stopped? Maybe, but it will become profiling. The guards will have to stop every person entering the mall to check id's in order for it not to become profiling.
