Most teens look foward to getting their lisences, haveing the ability to buy illegal substances. and now were going to have to look forward to going to the mall by our selves when were 18 years old. thats pathetic. i started going to the mall by myself when i was 11 i dont think that we should have that right of having fun, shopping, and being with our friends taken away from us.you will have to send everyone out , cuase im sure no teen will listen to it.

This decision by Pyramid Co, and the Holyoke Mall is an extreme example of age discrimination but its a shame that there are people who would use this forum as a way to insult and undermine the efforts of others. Does the person(s) responsible for the many inappropriate posts realize that they are just feeding into the stereotype of "punk youth" that the mall is using to justify their decision or does it just not matter to you I wish those youth who are truly willing to fight this fight and follow through to the end good luck
Why the #&$*@% would the mall do that? Alotta people just like to hang out there, play some DDR and chill. Yea some steal or cause trouble but the majority of kids like myself jus like to see their friends. You never know if a 18 year old is gonna steal stuff, you never know. 18 year olds are just as unpredictable as 8 year olds...Alot of kids dont cause trouble. i think that this is agenst the rights of the younger people thats go to the holyoke mall. the mall has no reason yo prevent younger persons for going to the mall after 4, when no problems have been caused in the past.

I am frankly shocked that the mall, or Pyramid Co (which has a poor reputation among shopping center operators) would choose to take such a drastic step. Really they are taking an "easy way out", rather than improving their own security.
The rule is terribly unfair to the vast majority of teenagers who do not cause trouble at the mall.

I'm tired of prejudice against young people. There are no reports of major trouble caused by teenagers so why do they have this policy- because older people are scared of young people cause they think all young people are dangerous. Ridiculous.

I couldn't wait to get my license, or even to be legal to buy cigarettes, scratch tickets, and ..now going to the mall without a parental figure and/or guardian! I highly doubt that the teens and groups are bombardign elders or adults when they pass by, but I do back up the thought of cutting down on the profanity. When I go to the Holyoke Mall, I know for a fact that I have NEVER been verbally abused or threatened in any matter when I pass by the arcade or a group of people. Yes, there has been some complaints, but that is full-out discrimination right there. Just because the way a certain group dresses or looks, does NOT mean that they are kids who go out at night and sell some drugs and what not. If you are that scared of children , then why go at the time that you think many teens might be getting together at. BUt, oh no...it's an amusement for all, so wy can't the teens have their time to converge with each other and the shoppers (which include teens too) can shop and not worry about the teens. I don't think business will go down , persay;but I think that this is a bad mistake. Not all parents have the time of day to go shopping with their children-as much as they might want to. Sometimes you just need some tiem to get away from it all. There is other places to hang out, but after Rock n' Rollerskate closed down, many kids thoguht they would lose touch. I am 18 and my girlfriend is 17, now we will no longer be able to go to the mall together on weekends. I will also be boycotting the mall. There have been roumers of a new mall being built in Westfield, maybe we can drive them out of bussiness in a few years.
Everyone is always telling teens where they can't go. Instead, spend the energy you use blocking them to help set up a place where they can go. If you can't do that, then don't block them at all.

since theyre gonna have security at every door checking id's, why can't they have revokable id's for kids under 18. Plus, isn't it stupid that we can get cars and they have us work at the mall but we cannot receive any of the benefits of shopping there?

Holyoke Mall has allowed bad behavior for years ~ why enforce policies now?! Personally, I think it would be more effect to require teenagers under 18 to apply for a mall ID (with picture) which gives them rights to access the mall at their convenience. If they behave poorly, have management take away their ID. Going to the mall should be a pleasant experience for everyone – it’s not a babysitting service for teenagers. I have been offended by “mall rats” many times, but I have also had teenagers be very polite to me and my daughter. Don’t punish everyone for the misdeeds of some. Require teens to apply for a mall ID – similar to a Six Flags ID – that can be used (or revoked) at any time! Of course, there should be a yearly charge for requesting a new or replacement ID – this would help cover some of the additional costs that the mall would have to incur….but banning people from the mall entirely is not an answer. Banning BAD people from the mall is.
I think they are trying to increase their sales by requiring parents to "shop" with their kids. In all truth, you are able to buy more stuff if you're with your parent. Right?

I think this policy is absolutely ridiculous. I agree that there are always a handful of teenagers that are unruly and disruptive to others, but I think it would be wiser to have the security guards patrol the mall and deal with the troublemakers (such as detain them and call their parents and/or local police), rather than punishing every teenager. In my opinion, a lot of the disruptive and unruly people are 18+, for which this policy does not apply.
this is silly and unfair. if it was like "Only 18+ after 9pm w/out an adult," there would be no issue, but 4pm is still the afternoon and that is EXTREMELY unfair!
I tip my hat to Mike on this petition and anyone who signs it. I encourage the owners of the Holyoke Mall to see that this will drastically hurt businesses that are popular among teens, decrease mall attendence, and cause annoyance with parents who are now required to accompany their teeenager to the mall on these days.
this is one of the stupidest things adults could have done. they are the ones complaining about how we need to find things to do and then we arent allowed to the mall on our free time, this is ridiculous. It does not make any sense to not allow kids under 18 to me at the mall at certain times. The age of 18 is also to high, i think it would be a little more fair if you need to be 13 and have an adult, but 18 is pretty much prohibiting most of its costomers.
This should not be age based is should be based on the actions of the individual. If somebody is not acting as an adult, their name should be taken and then they shoud be escorted from the mall. It is not the fact that it is stupid, it is irresponsible and childlike. I have read articles and have heard people saying that our youth are standing in goups in the middle of the isle and people cannot get by. I have been to the mall and have noted adults over the age of 18 doing the same. Are we to hold those to same standards as we want to hold our youth to and ask them to leave the mall. Our youth support the stores and especially the food court. We will be taking a sizable amount of revenus away from those who are in business to make money. Lets give them a chance and be fair and hold everybody accountable for their behavior. Lets all be held accountable and responsible for our actions and open the doors for all. Afterall, this is a public place.

Its like your banning us completely cause its not like we can go to the mall afterschool. And not to mention my mom has MS its a disease that makes her not be able to walk that well and after a while they give out and she cant walk anymore and my dad works. Banning teenagers is completely unfiar. It is discrimination against us. These people who don't want us there were also once teenagers and should we remember than. We should all start a boycott with our parents so no one goes to the holyoke mall on friday and saturday nights. This way maybe the malls will realize what they are doing is unjust and is nat making anyone happy. My parents have agreed to not go to the mall on friday and saturday nights, everyone should convince their parents to do the same.

During the weekdays were at school and then many people have afterschool activities including myself. I dont go to the mall very often but when I did, I go with my friends and shop.
